Y'all know that Deirdra Kiai made Impostor Syndrome: the video-game right? http://deirdrakiai.com/impostor/ I would think that this is a direct reference to it, but people can't figure out how to vote in the Amnesia Fortnight thread (even though it's pretty simple) so I can't assume anything.

I was told by the person that hired me for my current job that one of the reasons he decided to hire me was that he understood why I wanted the job. I didn't think they would give me the job during the interview so I just told them the truth: I want a job where I can draw and write, and that the job has similar hours to my wife's so that means I would be able to hang out with her more. Years later he told me that it made sense to him, so he never had to question what my motives really were or why I would want the job (which was apparently a challenge for him duing the hiring process).

I have a crazy idea. Why not take a day or two to do some nothing-to-lose job searching? Think of some jobs that might allow you to do art during you shift; maybe Austin has parking garage attendants or the hotel people that check people in? And then cold call some possible positions with your proposal. I don't know what you need in order to work on your art, but you do! Tell them why you think their job might work out for you. He is a dramatization, again, I don't know your details so I'm making them up. Ring Ring "Hello, this is the Porkshire Hotel, how can I help you." "Hey, I actually have an odd question: I'm trying to find a job where I can do digital drawings and paintings while I'm on my shift. Can you think of any positions where that would be cool at your hotel?" "Um... No? I don 't think so. We all stay pretty busy around here (nervous laughter)." "Yeah, I wasn't sure, can you think of any place where downtime is expected and , I really want to draw.""Um... The movie theatre?" "Ok, I'll look into that. Can I give you my name and number in case you all happen to think of something after I hang up?" "Sure." Whenever you think of a place where there might be a chance, just call them and waste some people's time. The one's who think it's interesting are probably thebest ones to work with and the ones who get annoyed work a shitty job anyway so fuck that place.

Are these Unity classes free? Looks like it. Looking over their website, it has such a I'm-gonna-be-a-real-game-developer appeal. I'm going to download Unity and try it out before committing to Game Maker. Luckily Steam tells me how much time I've spent in Game Maker, so I know how long it'll take to give Unity a fair chance.
-
NOT CABOOSE! I don't know about live streams, but I thought this Let's Play was entertaining:
-
I've heard that Game Maker is easier for beginners than Unity. That's why I started learning it. For small 2-d experiments would you still recommend Unity for someone with very little programming experience? I haven't plunked down the $50 for studio yet, so I'm still flexible. Oh also, can you export Unity games to an executable with the free version?

I was harvesting resources on a new-to-me server yesterday and I heard footsteps so I turned around and there was a guy pointing a gun at me. I was like "Are you going to kill me?" and he was like "I don't plan to." I started some small chat about whether or not resources spawned in this valley frequently and he told me they do, pointed out his house, asked me how much I had managed to craft. It was a nice chat. I asked him what he thought about me settling in this valley and he said that he thought it would be fine. He even suggested a spot right near his house. I realized later that he was just as appreciative of me being friendly as I was of him. I told him that this was too out-in-the-open for my taste and that I would build a house in a squirrel hole around here. We parted ways. I harvested one more rock to look non-chalant and started running away as fast as I could (I pressed the ctrl key). As I was running away from the nice man with the gun, I said to myself "Ya know? A good neighbor might be valuable in this game." So I started walking back and ended up building a shed nearby. Later on, I had crafted my first pistol and 20 bullets and I had just finished installing a new door on my shed. I see in global chat that my neighbor was having trouble with someone who was in the process of looting his house. I grabbed my gun and started running across the valley. Then I couldn't remember if I had shut the door, went back, saw that yes indeed it was shut, and started hauling ass to go help my neighbor. I don't know what happened, I got to his house and shouted through voice chat to see if he was home, but no one responded I think things may have gone poorly for him and he logged out in frustration. I also considered the possibility that it wasn't actually his house he pointed out to me. This game is weird.

I might be asking you for advice when I get to that point.

It hadn't occurred to me to vote for the ones that make the best prototypes. That's some pragmatic thinking.
-
What are you using to make this stuff voxn? I'm eventually going to have to figure out how to make dialogue boxes like that.
-
Do you like your spaceships to be guided by pragmatism or fantasy?

Does Flotilla's combat count as dog-fighting? I love that system. As for me, I'm a flourescent fizzy drink in the space-bar, multi-dimensional space-chess, holodeck kinda guy. -
My vote is for a hand-washing simulator.

I know right? It concerns me that these questions are coming from democratic countries.I voted for little pink dudes becase it looked like the one he wants to make and it seems achievable; Dear Leader because I'd love to see Double Fine's take on a dictatorial scenario; Extraterrarium because I have wanted a game like this for a while and I love the weird art-style; Gone Astray because Capt. Hastings was disappointed that she couldn't vote for it twice if she upped her pledge (I didn't want to suggest multiple accounts). I like investing in specific pitches because it gives me something to root for.
-
You vote by going to your library after donating, and then clicking on "Amnesia Fortnight 2014". There you click the check-marks next to the games you want made. That's how I think you do it anyway. Captain Hastings liked the pitch for Gone Astray so much that I have to vote for it too. This is going to be so much fun. Multiple pitches referenced Gone Home, at least three feature cat themes. I thought that was interesting.

One obstacle to keep in mind is that if the player has the option between spells and they require the player to remember a series of specific inputs, they will tend to stick to one or two spells because they can't remember how to do all of them in the moment. Magicka and some fighting games have this problem.

Well when one of us makes your free game idea, they should look at Netrunner's systems for inspiration.

Your description reminds me of Netrunner, Zeus. Only imagine that the only way the firefighter can win is she puts out seven fires; and the pyro has to set a fire every five turns or so. There's an assymetrical dependency in that way. Actually, it's more like a game between the owner of the building and the pyro-maniac.

In regards to filing the teeth of inequity in MMOs because the some many people feel robbed: I'm participating in the Rust alpha. I don't have much MMO experience, but this is what I imagined MMOs were like when I first heard of them. In a somewhat persistent world, players are building houses and forming gangs. I was resistent to the idea of buying Rust because of the horror stories I was hearing, but I was also intrigued. Here is my point: the inequity in Rust's alpha is a big part of why I'm enjoying it and it's also probably not going to be around in the finished product. It's crazy. There is a certain brutality attached to the games current systems, but there are also exploits being employed by server administrators especially (or atleast rumors of it) that are creating a mythological experience for me. Last night I was on a server with about 70 people and was hunted inhumanely by someone with a shotgun in my naked noobness. About 10 minutes later, his name pops up in global chat saying "The admins are on and they are blasting me!" Followed by panicked reports of how the administrators were using exploits for god-like powers to take down whom I perceived to be a tyrant. It was such an interesting experience for me. I have no idea whether or not he was exaggerating, but there I was hitting a rock against a tree to craft a stone-hatchet in poverty, and the voice of someone who had over powered me unjustly was damning the gods of the server in a global voice as he received (what was to me) mythological justice. This is not an experience I expect to have in the finished game. And it shouldn't be in the finished game. Without curation and creative enforcement, exploits would take over the experience. Part of the reason I'm enjoying it now is that I know it won't always be this way. I hope more systems like the cargo-drop and raiding other people's houses will be added in and balanced to maintain this sense of no-person's-land the game currently has, but I wager that it's eventually going to turn into a game where everyone feels like they are getting their fair-share consistently.

The U.S. justice-system supposedly requires a lack of reasonable doubt for a conviction. In child-molestation cases, there is rarely enough hard evidence for a conviction because it can often just be the word of the victim against the word of the suspect. We don't necessarily have that requirement because we aren't deciding whether or not the suspect will go to prison for many years. We are just trying to figure out which movie to recommend to a friend.

Ok, now I have a sincere question. Are you more forgiving of Charlie Chaplin's actions because you appreciate his work? That's one of my concerns about this form of attribution and exclusion.

You might want to remove any memories of the Cosby Show or any of his jokes. http://gawker.com/who-wants-to-remember-bill-cosbys-multiple-sex-assaul-1515923178

I have an interest in improving the quality of life for the poor and I sometimes suspect that land-value speculation contributes to poverty. I heard that in Amsterdam people don't actually own land, that they lease it from the government. I figured the results might tell us something.
