I still think it has a lot to do with the Early Access GamerGate that kicked off when Maddy Myers and Samantha Allen came under attack last ~July. They'd immediately got mobbed for calling out GB for their homogeneous hiring practices when they brought on Dan Ryckert and Jason Oestreicher (with the subtext being "...instead of them", or at least that's what was being thrown back in their faces). Allen actually left games entirely as a result. That's probably why GG is/was so sure GB is on their side as well. It took a while for GB to condemn that and not before they were further called out for ignoring what was being done in their name, if not necessarily by their community. And, when they did it was the in that "you don't represent us" style mentioned recently above. I'm sure they don't support GamerGate, but I also don't think they feel a lot of urgency to hoist a banner in the fight for progress either. -

I'm down. And the first couple of years are fine. THEY'RE FINE. If nothing else, you get to see baby faced versions of Vancouver's Finest Sci-Fi Character Actors. The last couple years... hoooooo.... *sharp intake of breath between teeth* they're kind of rough.

Remember, in gator world, GG is the principled, logical consumer revolt made up of the victims of Zoe's misanderist, hypocritical corruption. But the SJWs have used their influence to invert the truth. By proving(?) she benefits(???) from the Military-Industrial Complex they reveal her true nature(???????????) making it harder for the ~Liberal Media~ to "spin" Zoe into the victim and GG into the aggressors. It's not about GG having a problem with the Military-Industrial Complex, it's about driving a wedge between Quinn and her support network, to silence her. You know, since liberals are ruled by their iron clad ideologies and are required to turn on all thought criminals. "Look at your progressive hero now!!" Sure, gators might have PERSONAL objections to Acme Gun Co. being involved in CoD, but they would never let such ~~feelings~~ cloud their objective assessment of a game. To do so would be punishing a creator for their free speech. Of course, if a game lacks an FOV slider, or is locked to 30fps, or is pushing a political agenda by having an unrealistic number of "females", that's different. It's all perfectly in keeping with gator logic.

Just finished Dan Ryckert's Anxiety as an Ally and it wasn't bad. Its mostly an extended anecdote about how anxiety has affected his life for the last 12 years and how he found ways to cope. I don't know how much value its going to provide anyone who's already been diagnosed and is dealing with anxiety themselves, especially if it is PTSD; for him it was exercise, zolof and CBT (cognitive behavior therapy aka "face your fears"), which probably won't be useful for a lot of people who've experienced trauma. He's also still Dan Ryckert so if his life irritates you in general, this will probably not change your views of him. However, for anyone who's just been with diagnosed with a general anxiety disorder, especially if they're young (teens, early 20's), I'd recommend it. I'd probably recommend it to friends and family of sufferers as well. It talks a lot about his struggles to get his friends and family to understand what he was going through, having to go through long regimes of prescription drugs that weren't working for him until he found one that worked, finding ways of coping and managing his anxiety and falling into the trap of thinking he'd conquered his anxiety and the depression that would come with that. -

I appreciate your patience. I really find just Googling for this stuff on my own without knowledgeable people willing to weather these babby's first feminism threads is dicey. There's some real bullshit out there that can be tough to filter out, even when you're aware of your own confirmation biases. Like, how many people are going to read Ken Levine's latest treat in Game Informer, say "I knew it!" and leave it at that.

The game is Shadow of the Colossus x Dark Souls by way of Zelda. Looks like the demo is only on PC (right now anyways). Though I can't imagine its a very demanding game, system wise, and it's on Mac, Linux and Windows.

Finished the Titan Souls demo and that's going to be an awesome game. The high stakes nature of the fights is great, with death being JUST annoying enough to give you a sense of tension without totally sapping your will to live when you get mushed. Each boss is a puzzle and the three in the demo are extremely varied in what you need to do. The loop of Get Flattened, Get Wise, Get Good, Get Win that's so enjoyable in games like Dark Souls is on full display here. I totally recommend it.

It's unfortunate that we use "13yo boy" as a non-qualified pajorative when talking about this stuff. Figuring out your sexuality is already froght with peril from patriarchal venom, without having the good guys use you as short hand for the problem. I wonder if it contributes to the number of young men who go crazy reactionary. Having a young son, dealing with this in 10 years is something I think about a lot.
