  6. Hey guys. I need to cancel again. My schedule has been really volatile. I think I'm going to have to just call this campaign on hold for now I'm really sorry for the late notice.
  7. Steam Summer Sale Spendapalooza

I'm torn between getting Tales from the Borderlands now or waiting until all the episodes are out.
  8. There was a couple years where I thought I'd get into 3D animation and ReBoot and Beasties (Beast Wars for you Americans) being made in Vancouver was a big part of that.
  9. I Had A Random Thought...

I thought vinegar just messed up their pheromone trails. I didn't know about the guts melting. That's super metal.
  10. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Oh weird, I just totally missed that. I think the italics of the update made it register as a canned post script. I caught the original comment, about the unreliable third party blockers, but I swear I've seen Randi Harper herself saying GG Autoblocker was an imperfect solution, hence my confusion (though I guess Harper taking exception to the comment makes me think twice about that).
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    Where's the bus under-throwing?
  12. Feminism

It's already called Chap Stick people. Chap literally means "man".
  13. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

http://m.ca.ign.com/articles/2015/06/10/homer-and-marge-to-legally-separate-in-the-simpsons-season-27 Either that should read they're splitting up after 36 years (since they got married when Marge was pregnant with Bart and Bart is 10) or 10 years (since Bart is 10)
  14. DOTA 2

I often feel rudderless in the Dota 2 mid game, so I'll fall back on the following heuristic: If the enemy is grouping and pushing, split push or farm (depending on your role). If the enemy is scattered because they are jungling or split pushing, group up and pick some of them off. If the enemy is rolling around your jungle looking for kills, group up and push a tower. Having vision up will help with this decision making. Naturally, if you're playing with pubs, you'll need to try to convey your wishes with chat, pings and chat wheel and you'll probably be disappointed, but at least you'll know what your team SHOULD be doing
  15. Hatred: The Most Despicable Game of All Time?

    They're antisocial, not anti establishment.
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

Well, in the first Terminator, "infiltration" was "walk in the front door and shoot everyone".
  17. Hatred: The Most Despicable Game of All Time?

I'm hearing you when you say that silence in the face of injustice is a bad policy. I think that's absolutely true. Most of the time. I apologize in advance if this feels like an attack. It isn't my intent. These are just my own opinions. I feel there's a difference in Polygon calling out Penny Arcade, a media juggernaut and a major public face for gaming, and Polygon elevating Hatred out of the nothing it came from every couple of days to remind you how awful it is. As you say, Penny Arcade doesn't operate in a vacuum. They have roots in the industry and to the community as deep as any institution in videos games. Calling out their bad behaviour in the context of that influence and importance is necessary and just. And you are absolutely correct when you say that the games press has frequently dropped the ball when "nice people" do hurtful things, either because they don't understand the harm or because they're worried about burning bridges. Jerry, in that very post even, likes to act like PA is just a couple of jokers making .jpgs. It's a great way of deflecting criticism: "well gosh, why're you so worried about little ol' us". But, they (or, more accurately, Robert Khoo) have built a media empire that has to maintain a reputation to continue dealing with real companies in the real world. More importantly, they see themselves as a force for good, even if their behaviour is informed by shitty prejudices and biases they aren't aware of until they trod through them and smear shit all over the carpet. To be square with their own identity they need to reconcile that self image with the feedback they get. Maybe they would like to be left alone and be spared that painful process, but they have to make at least some effort to address these things. Hatred and the devs who make it, however, have no relevance beyond the outrage they seek to generate in the games press. They have no reputation to be harmed. They can't commit career suicide as they have no ties to the greater games industry. Critically, they don't see themselves as anything other than edgy enfant terribles taking the skeleton warriors for a ride and making a buck while they're at it. It isn't like they haven't corrected their trajectory because they're not aware that what they're doing is hurtful and awful. On the contrary, every blog post, youtube video, tweet and tumblr decrying Hatred is, to them, a badge of honor. They're a cancer, but they are literally nothing without attention. You can't rehabilitate cancer, you can only cut it off.
  18. Hatred: The Most Despicable Game of All Time?

It's a weird situation; when something like Hatred is happy to coast on notoriety, selling to disaffected edgelords, any press can only help them. The "silence is consent" theory kind of breaks down when it only serves to drive a wedge between progressives who want to speak out against it and progressives who stay silent because don't want to give it free advertising.
  19. Blizzard's free to play games have always been fairly presented, probably to their own financial detriment (tho Blizzard has the money to spend on good will which'll pay off in the long run). I think HotS is kind of pushing it with their $10 character unlocks as you need to play dozens if not hundreds of games to earn the equivalent sweat equity (but I'm a bias'd dota guy and someone can correct me if I'm wrong).
  20. Who cares if it's $1000? Nobody is punished for choosing not to buy it. I don't get the anger at Blizz selling a useless status symbol.
  21. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Wait. Is this Deadly Rooms of Death? I've heard VGHD talk about it.
  22. That was the sticking point for me: his biggest problem seemed to be that the cosmetics didn't come with any new abilities and that it was due to Blizzard's laziness. Having an opinion is fine, but I found his reasons for holding that opinion to be unconvincing.
  23. The idea that Blizzard is siphoning money out of "whales" with their cosmetics is eye watering. If anything, Blizz's hats are refreshingly forthright as there is no secondary market, no element of chance, no false scarcity and no game impact.
