  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Except I didn't. I highlighted a specific - Leigh's conflating social awkward people with terrifying bullying specifically, osmosisch. To confirm, Leigh's championing of indie video games in particular as a low-barrier of entry, grass roots form of creative expression that brings in a plurality of voices is one of the main reasons I'm still interested in gaming. But that's why I was surprised at her opening descriptions, which seemed rather reductive. EDIT - Like my initial comment, I guess. I should have stuck the context above in my original post rather than barging in with a Thompson comparison.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

So it is useful to conflate people, "Queuing passionately for hours, at events around the world, to see the things that marketers want them to see..." With victimising and stalking people?
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Why not? I don't think anyone's really well served by being reduced to tropes. The things that have made me hopeful have generally involved taking the time to engage with people as individuals (despite some of the startling views they might have) like Jenni Goodchild has been doing for instance.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Only just read that article by Leigh. I'm not sure that conflating standing listlessly in queues and buying stuff with the kind of appalling behaviour women like Anita Sarkeesian (and indeed Leigh herself) have received is terrifically useful. Jack Thompson school of rhetoric, that.
  5. Audio books

Cheers Alistair and Nappi. I don't have much of a commute - which is nice of course - so I think my best time to listen would be either when I'm making dinner or before bed. On the latter a while ago I listened to a hell of a lot of I Am Legend while asleep and not very much while awake...
  6. Audio books

I just downloaded Russell Brand's podcast with Noel Gallagher (which sounds amazing. I'm not really fussed about his telly, standup, or film work, soz, but he's a riveting, consistently entertaining radio presence) which turns out to be an Audible thing. Just looking at a sub but I've two questions I'd be really interested in thoughts on... 1. Is $15.00 a month considered reasonable then? I'm stuck thinking I could buy a real book for that. 2. I'm concerned. Like, really worried, about when I'd actually listen to audio books. When do you?
  7. New people: Read this, say hi.

I'm a late thirties chap living in Sheffield in the UK and what is game. Been listening to Idle Thumbs since near the start now I come to think of it and was hugely excited by the Kickstarter, which I thought was marvellous fun. Been lurking on the forums as a guest for a while but was compelled to join so I can add my support for things like Proteus and Journey and dissident games and the like. I like situationist and flaneur stuff, also the films of Kimachi Okamoto and cricket and pigeons hopping off kerbs.
