  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

And the inevitable claims of her faking it: https://twitter.com/Mislu_Kravin/status/520739931422208000
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Another female developer has gotten death threats, called the cops, and has been forced to leave her home for fear of herself or her family being harmed (trigger warning for violent misogynist language in her screencaps): https://twitter.com/Spacekatgal/with_replies
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

The classic "we apologize if anyone was offended" I hate that shit
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Github has banned GamerGate discussion So good for them
  5. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

It's funny how often these things parallel actual game design, since the prevailing trend in big-budget productions these days is to provide constant positive feedback to keep those endorphins flowing.
  6. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Leigh made a pretty good blog post about real ethical concerns in gaming: http://leighalexander.net/list-of-ethical-concerns-in-video-games-partial/

We don't have Safeway, but I think they own Tom Thumb and those are everywhere.

HEB doesn't exist in Dallas-Ft Worth, it's only Central Market here.

I don't know about delivery services but a really good grocery chain in town is called Central Market. It's a little like Whole Foods but cheaper and with a better selection, without the hyper-focus on NON-GMO ORGANIC. If you're in the uptown area the one at Lovers and Greenville is probably the closest. The DART rail runs right next to it. And if you're hating the heat now just wait till next summer and we have 30 consecutive days hitting temps above 100F

Honestly Time Warner (as much as they suck) tends to have more consistent service than DSL or Uverse. I live in a big apartment complex and my speeds are generally around what I pay for with very little downtime, whereas the phone companies are much less reliable in terms of speed and uptime. Fios is good but so limited in the areas they've rolled out.
  11. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

That's the part that really gets me. This will die down and then just keep flaring up again every time a new video comes out, or a new article from Leigh Alexander, or a new game from Zoe Quinn. I'm honestly concerned that it's going to take a physical assault on someone by one of these maniacs before people come to their fucking senses.
  12. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah he specifically hates Leigh (his own words): http://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/2hwlpj/here_is_a_leak_of_jimmy_wales_talking_about/ He posted this himself (along with some emails of him haranguing Jimmy Wales about the GG article on Wikipedia being too "pro-SJW") for some reason I can't understand.
  13. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Raph Koster has been trying to get some kind of actual debate going here (which is difficult considering that GG is an amorphous blob of sometimes conflicting opinions where the only consistency is that hatred for certain people leads to constant attempts to dig up dirt on them no matter how many times they fail) and yesterday this happened:http://imgur.com/a/LgZBN It's kind of long/dreary/depressing but if you can power through it you'll get to savor the unprecedented sight of Derek Smart bowing out of a flamewar. It made me laugh for about 10 minutes earlier today.
  14. Feminism

Oh Christ that anecdote at the end D: And the LA Times editorial: Steps such as "make sure you're not raping anyone" Craziness
  15. Other podcasts

He's extremely naïve about a lot of subjects, which leads to statements that are sometimes charming and sometimes infuriating. The only thing he's said that I've been really bothered by was the "anyone can succeed if they just keep on trying, giving up means you're a failure" bullshit from last week. Other than that he's said some occasionally horrifying stuff but it's been mostly entertaining from my perspective.
  16. Books, books, books...

Does anyone else here read Peter F Hamilton? It's been a while since I read his older stuff and I just picked up Great North Road. I'm trying to figure out if he always treated his female characters this badly or if it's a new thing for this book.
  17. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

This is fantastic Also i would like to recommend Royal Thunder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XyeyxTm_wQ
  18. DOTA 2

The map changes seem good so far but I think they're going to nerf the kill gold pretty soon. Some of the situations I've seen in pro games have been utterly ridiculous.
  19. San Francisco Residents!

I quite liked Muir Woods, there's shuttle bus runs from Sausalito in the north bay which can be reached by ferry. I didn't get to go to Alcatraz but I keep hearing how great it is. You also definitely want to take a few hours to walk around Chinatown and get some steamed dumplings.
  20. Feminism

I looooove comic designs that look more like actual clothes, on both male and female characters. Good stuff.
  21. Recommend me a cool book!

Check out Blindsight by Peter Watts

I actually liked the mechanics in ME1 the most, as janky as they were. I liked the crazy amount of loot drops, though the UI was pretty poor at dealing with it. The shooting was worse obviously but it felt like the combat had more real options and they were more differentiated than in the following games. Far and away the best story and dialogue options of the series too. It's making me want to play my 3DS more too. There isn't a lot I want for it right now though.
  23. Recently completed video games

This last weekend I finished A Link Between Worlds which I had picked up during the eShop sale. Honestly it might be my favorite Zelda at this point. I don't think the character art was the greatest, though I definitely liked it better than when I first saw videos of the game. I think the animations help a lot there. The overall design (especially the dungeons) was fantastic though. I liked the item rental system and the overall increased difficulty compared to most recent Zeldas.
