Actually, It's about Relocation in Games Journalism
Dewar replied to Architecture's topic in Video Gaming
That's somewhat disappointing. I was hoping he'd go somewhere where we'd still see him on video often, and while I don't have anything specific against Kotaku, they're near the bottom of the popular gaming news websites I like to visit. -
Tracking information says that my package arrived at RubixsQube's place. Any word?

That and http://metroidpolitan.com/blog/2014/6/24/a-gdc-epilogue-powerful-games-journalist-men-i-have-met are absolutely heart-breaking.

Edit: Changed my mind, the GTA conversation going on is much more important than anything I had to say, and it doesn't exactly fit this topic either. I played GTA 3, and didn't ever really bother with the prostitute thing more than the first couple of times. When I played GTA 4, I tried to follow the Nico that the cutscenes showed, and did my best to obey most major laws (traffic laws aside) which is a miserable way to play that game. After that experience, I pretty much quit.

This being the first time I read that tweet (I don't hang out on twitter very much) I read it as targeted at the GG folks, basically a "lighten up" statement with different phrasing, not a "ignore the problems and they'll go away" thing.

It's not just that because I played multi before I ever started single player.

Jeff said on his tumblr that the New York position that has been open for a couple of months is intended to replace Patrick. -
The end of the year seemed like a good time to pull this thread from the grave. With a few last minute purchases, I managed to come right under the wire of my yearly goal to beat as many games as I buy. I ended up with 65 games completed and 65 games purchased. Of course, that means that the 36 games I received for free (presents, PS+, or flat out free games) actually increased my backlog some, but such is life I guess. Here's a list of the games that I "completed" 7 Days to Die Alpha Centauri Banished Broken Age Part 1 Card Hunter Crusader Kings: RoI Dark Souls 2 DEFCON Diablo 3: RoS Divine Divinity Divinity: Dragon Commander Don't Starve Dragon Age: Origins Europa Universalis IV EU4: Weath of Nations Euro Truck Simulator The Fall Farming Simulator 15 Gangbeasts King's Bounty: The Legend Lethal League Lunar Flight Massive Chalice Max Gentleman Middle-Earth: Shadows of Mordor Monaco Mount your Friends Nidhogg Papers Please Rogue Legacy Sam and Max Season 3 Sentris Shadowrun Expansion Spacebase DF-9 Space Engineer Starwahl Star Wolves 3 State of Decay Sword & Sworcery Titanfall Towerfall Transistor X-Com (the original) XCOM: Enemy Within Yahwg Super Mario Galaxy Rune Factory 4 Uncharted Uncharted 2 Demon Souls Thomas Was Alone Lone Survivor Proteus Fez Sports Friends The Room 1000000 Device 6 Year Walk The Room 2 Castle Doombad 80 Days Desert Golf Banner Saga Sailor's Dream

I feel that statements like that generalize the issue far too much to be useful. There are problems in video games, there are problems with the internet, there are problems with sports. Talking about the problems in those things that we enjoy is good, just deciding to divorce yourself from those things doesn't do anyone any good. I, for one, owe a lot of my current situation (which is mostly positive) to nerd culture. I have no idea what I would have done as a child if I hadn't grabbed that Star Wars RPG book off the shelf and forced myself to make friends just so I'd have someone to play with. Edit: I should mention that I understand that the original comment was hyperbole, and I don't know why it happened to strike a nerve with me. I'm probably just being overly cranky today.

Are either being recorded? -
I guess I'm drawing the parallel that "Fuck Masculinity" means "No one should ever be masculine ever." Is that not the way you see that statement, because if you're trying to tell me that I can't be nerdy ever, I'll just take my leave of this thread.
-
You do realize you are posting on an internet forum created for a podcast about video games. You are nerd culture.

The way that equipment trickles out at such a slow pace is what has caused problems for me so far. Where the ME3 card system seemed to work pretty well, DA:I definitely feels like they want you to pay money for cards.

Idle Thumbs 190: A Very Spectrum HoloByte Christmas
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I'm actually working my way through ME2 again for the DLC right now, and my wife is playing ME3. I find myself still enjoying all the parts I enjoyed before, and not really caring about the stuff that bothered me before, so it's been a positive experience overall. -
Twin Peaks Rewatch 11: The Man Behind Glass
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
I couldn't find it either, bought it, and lost interest before it arrived so my first time watching it will be along with the final podcast episode. -
There were a lot of good deals on good games that I already own. I think I've reached peak sale.
-
Final days of the Steam sale. I'm thinking about picking up Stick of Truth and Endless Legend.

Hah, I always assumed that was a Jeff Gerstmann joke account or something.

There has been a position open for a news person working out of the NY office for a few months now. Jeff's Tumblr stated that they were hoping to get some interviews scheduled before the end of the year, but that didn't happen, so hopefully we'll hear something near the end of January?

I wasn't going to respond to this since I'm really into Giant Bomb and I was worried my replies would come off as defensive or snippy. Instead, I'll just try to keep it brief and inoffensive. Jeff strikes me as the sort of guy who sees the value of and maybe even enjoys having folks on opposite sides of the spectrum around him. -
I've tried to get into it several times, but it's difficult to get decent equipment so I ended up either getting matched with a bunch of people like me still using the starter sword and dying around the 3rd area, or matched with one godlike guy who carried us through the game and then beat the end boss with the rest of us lying on the floor. If I could collect together 3 friends to play it so I didn't have to deal with crappy match making, I'd be willing to give it another shot.

Idle Thumbs 190: A Very Spectrum HoloByte Christmas
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
That's an interesting point. Maybe it says something about me, but I'm always the first to judge myself poorly, to the point where when Kaidan died in ME1, I spent an hour going through forums and such trying to figure out what I'd done wrong that doomed him, not realizing that it was a "save one or the other" sort of choice. -
Maybe I just haven't talked to her enough, but Vivienne would rate in the bottom half of characters in that game for me. I'm not sure why she doesn't click with me when so many others really seem to like her.
