Last evening I found one crashed Vertibird with a partial suit and also got attacked by a raider in a full suit, so I guess the drought is over. You must be further in the main story line than I am, I've only gotten the early one from main quests.

FOB could be so cool, and I had some fun with it before everyone out there got maxed bases and I felt guilty for robbing real resources from other people. It doesn't help that I just can't figure out how to successfully invade an FOB. I get caught every time. The only time recently I've won one is when I sat and gunned down every single soldier on the entire base, including all reinforcement waves. It ended up being 50+ people.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Dewar replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I liked having the stuff that was added in the PS1 version without the crippling load times. I especially enjoyed the re-translation, but I really liked the cut scenes as well. -
Another PC patch, but all the update information I could find relates to Metal Gear Online, which isn't even out on PC. I can only assume they patched it to make base invasions burn your FOB to the ground each time and raised the price for insurance by $5.

Dang it, my wife really wants an Isabel Amiibo, and now I somehow missed when they announced a release date. Edit: Oh, only with the whole game huh....

I played that fairly recently. I was surprised at how easy it was to spec yourself into a useless character. Like even less forgiving and more broken than other games of the time. Still looking forward to playing the sequel someday.

Interesting, I've only found one half completed suit and one frame for sale after 40 hours. You and one of my buddies online are drowning in that stuff. I wonder if I'm just not eagle-eyed, or haven't been choosing the right sites to loot.

I don't really understand the complaint (made about plenty of different games, not just Alpha Protocol) that you can be aiming at a target and not hit it. Maybe it's because I've fired a gun before, but it takes a lot of practice to hit what you think you're aiming at. It feels right to me that there's an inaccuracy cone that decreases with skills.

Sorry, I was not in the best mood when I wrote my response. I have been wrestling with the issues you're touching on in therapy of all things, so it hit a sore spot. I think there's a psychological component that makes a grey area between necessity and desire in your statement. Getting away from that though, and comparing to a couple of other hobbies I've dabbled in over the years, would you complain about a painter who has a bunch of half-finished paintings who said that they have to finish one before the end of the year, or a movie buff who needs to see all the best picture nominees before the Oscars?

RAW is shit but New Day gifs are gold aka wrasslin talk
Dewar replied to seamus2389's topic in Idle Banter
I just realized that sometime since I first subscribed to WWE Network, they finally added all the RAWs during the Attitude era. I'm unsure if I'll avail myself of the opportunity and, if I do, when I'll go from just watching PPVs to watching TV as well. I started with the Austin 3:16 promo (96 King of the Ring) and am currently at Summer Slam 97. Still haven't seen anything that I remember yet, but I'm thinking it's probably late 98 when I started watching? -
The Bombcast also said that it only took Jeff around 40 hours to beat. If you don't have time I get it, but it doesn't sound like it's another 100+ hours. Edit: My impressions are mostly positive so far. It seems like much more of a real world than Fallout 3 or New Vegas did. Actual vegetation, more realistic seeming terrain. I thought having a voiced main character would bother me, but it's been pretty good so far. Voice acting is about the best it's been in a Bethesda game.

I would respond to this, "you don't, but everyone has different emotional needs from their hobbies." I am extremely goal oriented, especially when I get depressed, and having goals for my gaming hobby allows me to actually take the time on the tough days to play and feel like I've accomplished something, even if that accomplishment is in my own head. Otherwise, I'd rarely get to play games because there are always other things to accomplish. Edit: Also, I would guess hyperbole in that particular quote.

Idle Thumbs 235: Plaited Haircut of the Whale
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Chrome Hounds had the awesome capture the communication towers mechanic that was unfortunately ruined by alternative modes of voice chat becoming more and more available. -
Idle Santa 2015 - Giftees sent out! Get gifting!
Dewar replied to N1njaSquirrel's topic in Idle Banter
I don't think it's come down to that yet, we've got a while yet. Unfortunately, I won't be able to participate this year. This time of year is always a nightmare at work and I don't want to add additional shopping to the mix this year. -
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that even with the Steam pre-load, it was only 50% done unpacking after an hour so I ended up going to bed and playing this morning for 30 minutes instead.

I beat Steamworld: Dig last night. It wasn't exactly what I was hoping for from a game influenced by Miner: Dig Deep. There's a large emphasis on platforming, wall jumping, and combat, where I was hoping more for strategic mining and trying to not get stuck. It was fun enough, regardless.

As far as I know this is true. My friends online complained that if they even started the game with the controller plugged in, the keyboard was unavailable and there wasn't even an option to switch to it. An hour after unlock, My first impressions: I didn't realize how much I'd miss Ron Perlman and the traditional old-timey music opening. Also, tons of facial options in a Bethesda game and it's still impossible to make a character that actually looks human. They need to buy whatever facial tech EA uses for Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

Dredging this thread up one more time since my Halloween movie night was on Saturday. Reposessed is a very bad movie, but it was just what we needed after watching The Exorcist. Also, Keep Talking and No One Explodes is a great way to open a party, but probably not the best way to close it

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
Dewar replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
I went to StarTrek.com to read the whole press release, and couldn't find it. I then noticed they have a pretty robust store there, which is cool because you just don't see real licensed Star Trek merch in the field that much anymore. Then I saw that they sell a shirt modeled after Wesley's weird tri-color thing from the first couple of seasons. I closed the browser window. Edit: Found it. By the co-writer of the two new films. Hopefully that doesn't turn it into an action-fest, or write it into the new movie continuity instead of the old series. -
Ah, with the amount of effort required to beat some of these later missions, that sort of AI would be the peak of frustration. In a less demanding game though, that sounds like it could be pretty cool (and closer to what I expected when I first bought the game.)

Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
Dewar replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
I wouldn't be of much use in a wrestling thread unless you just want recaps of late 90s pay-per-views as I slowly work my way through the attitude era at least till the point I started watching.- 1367 replies

I just looked and it turns out I played without the DLC, which is probably a good thing because I don't really fancy playing two more campaigns worth of missions. Not having played the original, I found the AI to work all right, no glaring bugs or anything, just really hard starting setups and bosses in the last few missions.

I don't understand why people like Uncharted. I realize that I'm coming to this way after the fact being that I didn't have a PS3 when the Uncharted games were first released. I kept thinking as I played through Uncharted 1 and 2 that they weren't that good, but I figured that I was just playing less modern games, so I cut them some slack. Now I've started Uncharted 3, which is only 4 years old at this point, and it the whole thing still feels clunky as hell. The controls in climbing and running sequences are horrible, the shooting is all right, but nothing super special. Is it just the voice acting and story that everyone likes? Am I missing some magic control option that would make Drake jump to the things I want him to the first time, or highlight ledges that can be climbed versus those that can't? Oh, and is it notoriously glitchy? Because twice I've been going through a section, the next story step doesn't start, then I fall through the floor.

This weekend I beat Majesty 2.I bought it a long time back on a recommend from Giant Bomb, got about half way through, then put it down. I happened across the Quicklook last week, and decided to finish it off. It's a fun (sort of) RTS where you don't directly control your units. Instead, you act as the mayor in an RPG game, building and researching products for shops to sell, setting quests, etc. It's pretty clever and fun, but I figured out the reason I dropped it a few years ago is that the last few levels are hard. What's worse, you'll often play like 30 minutes in before you realize how screwed you are. With the judicious use of mid-mission saves, I finally made it. I'd recommend it if you'd like a taste of a game mechanic I haven't seen done elsewhere, but not if your main goal is to actually finish games.

That sounds like pretty much what I want. Fallout 3 different and with less bugs.
