  1. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

For me, it's a combination of pride (I'd love to be able to say I completed the entire "main" play through without hints) and seeing how other people have had a satisfying "wow of discovery" that I missed out on, and I wonder if I'd just been a little more stubborn if I'd have stumbled across the answer by accident.

Yeah, it's difficult. There's certainly a spot where you're stuck enough that you just wouldn't go back to the game without help, but there's also a spot where you've been told too much that completing the puzzles no longer feels like an accomplishment. I guess that's the point that the Polygon review was trying to make in the first place? I'm definitely disappointed at a couple of the hints I took, but also not so concerned about a couple of others. Still, it would have been really awesome if I'd come across the +1 stuff on my own, but I don't think I ever would have.
  3. XCOM 2

Wow, speaking of a difficulty spike, I went from only ever seeing one Codex to having two pods of 2xCodex 1xAndromedon (which I hadn't even seen yet.) Funnily enough, I passed up a very difficult mission to take the difficult one instead, so I can't imagine what the harder mission would have been like.
  4. Californium

Ha, I didn't even know that The Man in the High Castle was related to Phillip K Dick at all. That weird rendition of Mad World that was in all the previews pretty much guaranteed I'd never watch it.
  5. FYI, certificates on a Mac are strictly case sensitive, but Windows doesn't care so much. You know, just in case you spend months trying to figure out a problem that ends up being a capital W
  6. wrong thread

    Oooh. Studying what?
  7. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

Yeah, I didn't have a lot of fun with those. I ended up having to stop because I thought I was going to hurl. I didn't have a problem anywhere else in the game.
  8. System Shock: The Third

I was planning to play it on easy, or download one of those mods that reduces spawns or something. I wanted to experience it without having that particular worry. I suppose it's probably easy enough to cheat in more supplies if you really get desperate.
  9. System Shock: The Third

Interesting, I should play System Shock 2 at some point.
  10. Landing at each building actually. Pros can do it by making a lander and moving around the base doing it in one pass. I did it by building a tiny rocket and hitting my parachute when I was above the right building, then repeating new launches for each location.
  11. Cookie Clicker

    Isn't it?
  12. XCOM Enemy Unknown

I haven't played on Iron Man, because I'm scared of save corruption, but I usually play through without reloading anyway. Non-EW XCOM I made it through the whole thing on normal, only having to reload once at the final fight (which I guess lets you reload when you fail anyway) and XCOM 2 I'm about half way through (maybe?) and the only time I've reloaded is when I came home and tried to play a round when a bit tipsy. Not a good idea.
  13. XCOM Enemy Unknown

On easy, I wouldn't worry too much about optimal builds for your rooms. Even on normal I wouldn't call that particularly important. If there's one thing I've learned from watching BeagleRush's Live and impossible series, it's that a grenade that's guaranteed to kill is better than two 80% shots. Don't worry too much about destroying the bodies, you'll get plenty. I don't recall the performance being that bad on my machine, and it also ran fairly well on the Xbox 360, so I don't know why you'd be getting frame rate hitches. Maybe the cinematic camera? I turn that off immediately since it ends up just zooming in on walls or showing that the alien doesn't have any line of sight on my soldier before she gets vaporized.
  14. XCOM 2

Not reading those end game spoilers quite yet, but I'm just going to assume that the start of XCOM 3 reveals that the Humans lost the war a second time, and now not even the skies are safe, necessitating a burrowing drill mothership that just happens to have a grid of unused rooms that must be unlocked via expensive hacking then filled with miscellaneous machinery.
  15. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

interesting, I guess I'm in? I have a bad habit of buying a bunch of DLC for Bethesda games and then never going back to play them again, but I'm actually really wanting to play more Fallout.
  16. Yeah, building upgrades are really important in full career mode. Between the cost to fire off each rocket and the price to upgrade the buildings to be useful, I was constantly running near broke so I eventually gave up and went to science only mode. There has been a mission overhaul since I played in full career though, and Zeus seemed to be having a good time with it. Science-wise, you can also do different research at each building in the KSP complex, which can give you a good boost of science to get over the starting hump as well as some atmospheric maneuvering practice that I found helpful later. Oh, and in Career mode, I believe you need a scientist to be able to set the experiments to run again, otherwise they are inactive even after you pull the data out.
  17. I mentioned earlier that I heard that, but I didn't think that Scott would be in the house, I figured it was going to be a Skype thing or something. Also, i missed the ship going into Solar orbit as well. That'll be a fun one.
  18. Sweet, that video was fascinating, both because of the AI strategy and general Go theory.
  19. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

Some of them can be quite far away though, for instance...
  20. Pinball Club

It feels like dead flipper passes in Pinball FX2 almost always go high enough to hit the bumper. I use them a lot in real life, but have a tough time making it work for me here.
  21. XCOM 2

    I still haven't spotted it.
  22. XCOM 2

I always thought he was an alien, even in the first game.
  23. XCOM 2

I had no idea how much of a game changer researching armor is. I've been putting it off, and I was also desperate for cash and sold all my Trooper corpses, which rarely show up in missions these days. I guess that's another thing to be careful about if and when I need to restart again.
  24. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I believe sometimes the attachments are cross weapon type, and other times they aren't, with no real indicator. I think I remember researching a pistol with a medium endurance silencer and being able to put it on my sniper, but it's been a while.
  25. Pinball Club

I was scared of Morpheus and had never attempted his mission. Today, I got my mission started really early so I went for him, figuring if I screwed up I could just start over. To me, it seemed like the best mission of the bunch. Super clear indicators of what spots to hit, some choice there as well, and juggling the different tentacles was really cool. I didn't end up beating my top score, but I'm glad I tried it. With that, I pretty much feel like I've done all I really want to on this table. I might take a couple more shots at it here and there, or I might hit up some of the other Marvel tables that came with the Season 1 pack I bought.
