  1. I was surprised (pleasantly) that it was so short. That's not to say that if the next one was long again, I'd be disappointed. More that I just like the variety.
  2. Life

That's a tough one, but if you're not really invested in where you're working now, they're not going to be getting your best work anyway, especially when you have that offer that you always wanted but passed up hanging over your head. If you're like me, every little frustration with the current position will just remind you of what you might have missed.
  3. Automation: Where did all the jobs go?!

I would say that we need a solution, but it has been fairly typical of governments to implement a quick solution that has major problems over time, so I want to get it right this time. Edit: And, for this particular thread, I'd like to chat a little about how we could implement it, because I honestly don't know where we'd get the money, unless we magically got the government to cut back on military spending for once.

That's cool. I don't understand music at all, so I might have to try it out.
  5. Stardew Valley

Have they announced a new Story of Seasons? I was looking around trying to find a press release but came up blank.
  6. Difficulty and balance in Video games.

Pulling this thread out of the deep dark. I thought we'd had one of these recently, but I guess it ended up in the Random Thoughts about Video Games thread or something. This has been a quarter of difficult games for me so far. Highlights include Darkest Dungeon, XCOM 2, The Witness, and a renewed interest in Rocket League. All of them games that I've been looking forward to for a while, knew were going to be hard going in, but have frustrated me in various ways. For a while, I was thinking that I had just gotten worse at games. With Rocket League in particular, my reactions aren't what they once were and I can definitely feel it, but the rest aren't time based at all, so I can't blame that. I don't think it's my skill failing me, it's my patience. Various stresses in my life have made it difficult to spend the time I want on my hobbies, which means my patience for restarting or "wasting time" is much less. I've spent the weekend really re-evaluating my current gaming options over the weekend, and thinking back to some of my more frustrated rants in various threads around here. I think that both Darkest Dungeon and XCOM 2 are great games, and right in my wheel house, but not the games I need right now. I'm going to go play some Stardew Valley tonight.
  7. Automation: Where did all the jobs go?!

Let me start by saying I'm not against the concept of a mandatory minimum income, but it's not quite as simple as it sounds. Social Security in America is heading towards a car wreck as there are more elderly people needing money (both because of longer life expectancy and the sizes of successive generations) than young people paying in money. Especially if automation takes hold the way people in this thread are fearing, we could very easily end up with a minimum income strategy that works now, but collapses in 10 years as less people are working.
  8. Stardew Valley

I actually haven't played a ton of Harvest Moon games (the first couple, and the most recent Rune Factory really) so I don't know if the feature creep would be cool (having all those new options) or frustrating (not understanding mechanics from earlier games.)
  9. Stardew Valley

Hmm, interesting. I've been eyeing Story of Seasons for a while but never pulling the trigger since my wife and I share the 3DS so I never know when I'll get the chance to play it. Edit: Also, holy crap, 1833 good reviews, only 23 negative on Steam. That might be the best ratio I've ever seen.
  10. XCOM 2

The original X-Com is tolerable with the Open X-Com mod, but really Xenonauts captures the feeling quite nicely. I started over and I'm already getting half the income I had and I'm only in the second month. I think I understand what I'm supposed to be doing better this time.
  11. Cows in Space! A MoO thread

The only version on the Steam store currently is the Collector's Edition, which comes with MoO 1-3 as well.
  12. XCOM 2

Yeah, I didn't see the use at the time, but now I really wish I'd picked it up early. Edit: *Sigh* It is now getting pretty obvious that I'm outclassed by most fights now. I wouldn't mind starting over again, but man each and every mission just takes so long. Edit2: I just defeated the Gatekeeper. Can anyone give me an idea of what a "good" income would be at this point? I'm starting to wonder if that's where I failed.
  13. I bought SmartGo, just to have something for on the run, and man I am bad. I knew I was bad, but not quite this bad.
  14. XCOM 2

I, um, never paid for skull mining. The description didn't give me enough info to know what it did and now I'm out of Elyrium cores. I never seem to get more either, even though I'm fairly careful not to blow guys up for the kill and I'm generally pretty successful at grabbing loot when it does drop/
  15. XCOM 2

Hmm, interesting. I haven't been touching the skull jack much, and even then it's been with my Ranger. I didn't know they boosted hacking skill. I have Gremlin 2s, that's what boosted my typical hacking chance from 20% to 50%, but maybe I was slow on the research and I should have 3s by now?
  16. Hmm, I've skipped the last few Pokemon, it might be time again.
  17. XCOM 2

Never seen that, though I've mostly given up on on environmental hacking at the bonuses rarely outweigh the penalties and my hack percent seems to be around 50%. I've gotten a couple clutch 20% change robot take-overs though.
  18. That's one of those bits that was sorta funny, then really funny, then got dumb and boring, and then finally got the funniest. A master course in how doing a funny bit too long can come back around and be hilarious.
  19. The McElroy Family of Products

I downloaded the first few episodes of The Adventure Zone to fill the void a couple of other podcasts have left. I haven't had a chance to listen to them yet though.
  20. Other podcasts

Thank you for reminding me about this. I've loved watching some of the Stream Friends stuff and it's really cool that GB lets Austin continue to do these extracurricular things.
  21. XCOM 2

There have been a couple of small ones that haven't fixed anything I've noticed. I assume they've been fixes specific to certain computer setups or something.
