Dark Souls 3 {Dark souls 2 successor [Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor)]} (Bloodborne's something)
Dewar replied to kaputt's topic in Video Gaming
I watched the GBeast stream. It looked like Dark Souls. They're always such lonely games that it's tough to get in the mood with three people talking. -

I'd be up for an impressions piece at least. I plan on watching the GB stream as soon as it's archived anyway. -

I don't think it's weird. It sounds pretty cool actually. It's the same feeling I got from Black Desert when it came over from Korea, somewhat poorly explained. But that game is pretty easy and I don't know if taking a game that's already hard and layering that on top of it would be good for my sanity. -
It feels as if any recent attempts to change anything gradual have failed, but also the government is setup to prevent anyone from doing anything extreme instead. Prevention of radical change isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if it's Trump that's elected in November, but it leaves behind gridlock where it feels like nothing is getting done, year after year.

It's probably mint, but not the good mint, that mint that tastes like it was scraped off the bottom of your shoe. -

Dark Souls 3 stream running on Giant Bomb right now. I'll wait until the VoD since I really shouldn't be streaming at work. I really need to get cracking on DS2. Edit: Ha, I just realized I have release week off. Edit 2: Just saw this on the steam page. I didn't have any idea. Looks like it's an 8% discount -
I just finally got around to watching the Giant Bomb video with Johnathan Blow spoiling the witness. He seems like a really awesome and thoughtful guy. Now I want to go back to the Witness and try to 100% it, but I know it would just be an exercise in frustration.

I'm really glad I paid for the Kickstarter, if for no other reason to see the videos and support DF. I didn't enjoy the second half of the game either *shrug* but I got my money's worth from the other content.

*sigh* I I thought I was doing good in this game, but I took a break for a few weeks and I guess that means I just lost any skill I had accumulated. I quit out last night figuring I was just doing bad because I was tired, but I did similarly bad today in another mission and I guess I'm starting over again. At least this time I can blame two badly explained mechanics for my second failure. In all my plays I've never had a mission that required me to destroy a target that I couldn't just walk up to and destroy, so I just didn't have the firepower necessary to take down the beacon in time. Second, a hack that gives you disorientation for two turns actually means disorientation for one turn apparently Edit: I guess I'm going to have to swallow my pride and play on Rookie so I can at least see the game.

Idle Cook Club - Veggie Feeds-me: My Body Is Ready

Watching Ramen Girl and a few other actual documentaries from Japan, the making of ramen broth seems like it can be a really ritualistic process. I might take a shot at making broth this weekend, then have the actual ramen on Monday or Tuesday. I'm going to do my best to not just throw in miso paste, but actually try to build broth from components myself. We'll see how it goes. Edit: I found this that I'm going to use as a base if you're interested in more technical cooking. http://www.seriouseats.com/2012/02/how-to-make-tonkotsu-ramen-broth-at-home-recipe.html -
Idle Thumbs 254: Welltris and Wetrix
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Interesting. at the start of the game, i actually found sanity to be a more threatening life bar than HP, so I optimized around keeping sanity down and now I routinely leave dungeons more sane than when I come in. Since it carries over mission to mission and HP doesn't, I'll often let my adventurers get almost to death's door (not all the way of course, that's a major sanity hit) and still pick a sanity heal at camp. At the same time, I've never found playing with enemy positioning to be all that useful, since it feels like most enemies can attack effectively from most positions, and they also seem to move further than my folks, quickly unscrambling from any pushes or pulls I do try. It sounds like maybe I would have liked it better in early access as well Also interesting thoughts about Paradox games. At one point I was putting 20 hours a week into CK2 and it was my favorite game for more than a year. Then I played EU4, didn't really like the way it was designed, then slowly watched as mechanics from EU4 bled back into CK2. It was especially hilarious since the changes in EU4 were sold as fixes to make multiplayer more balanced, but multiplayer in CK2 doesn't work right even today. *shrug* Yet I'm setting myself up for more suffering when Stellaris comes out. -

Interestingly enough, I put Darkest Dungeon down because I simply found it kinda boring, and the concept of losing my characters or an entire playthough to just have to start over and do more boring to get back to where I was also made it disproportionately stressful. At the same time, I can't imagine what the game would be like without corpses. I guess you'd just alpha strike position one as hard as you can, so that would lead to them putting real monster tanks in position one, which would slow down combat even more. -
Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan

In many ways that makes him great for a website, where I can just turn off the video if I don't feel like putting up with it.- 1367 replies

Most complex diplomacy system on a strategy video game

Ug, those hard-coded events are why I quit playing 5 hours in and never went back. I don't play these games to duplicate history. -
Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
Dewar replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
Times like that I don't like Dan either. I enjoy his enthusiasm for games, and he's made a lot of great strides not just dismissing anything he hasn't tried, but the "pranks" that he pulls still make him a total shit heel.- 1367 replies

Digging this thread up way afterwards because I wanted my wife to play first so I didn't spoil anything for her. I was pretty thorough and got almost all of the main-story related conversations and discoveries, which paint a mostly clear picture of events, minus the one alarmed backpack that everyone's kinda curious about. Unfortunately, when I found the raccoon in the stove D was drunk and not talking to me, so I missed that story about the burned out watch station. Anyone know of a place I can call it up on Youtube? Anyway, i was very happy with the ending, really liked how it all ended up being (mostly) normal instead of veering into X-Files territory. I would say I liked it more than Gone Home, as I generally like to be handed characters to play as by game designers, rather than the blank slate that others on the thread seem to enjoy. Edit: Nevermind, found it.

Turn off notifications? I don't let any games remind me of anything.

Yeah, I don't know what else they can do though. Most generations in the past it felt like consoles released at roughly the levels of a good gaming PC, then fell behind as time went on. This gen, it feels like they already started behind, and are just falling further. Combine that with MS's moves toward unifying PC and Xbox, and Sony has to say something right? Edit: Also, that's an awesome breaking story for Klepek, and if there's anyone I trust to double-check his sources, it's him.

The inevitable happened: AI can now play Go
Dewar replied to riadsala's topic in Strategy Game Discussion
Does KGS explain scoring when you finish a match? I guess what I'm getting at is that SmartGo has tuned in pretty well to my skill level and I find myself losing by 1/2 point sometimes, and I'd really like to see how it's calculated to understand which stones I could have contested to win that point. -
I've finally fallen into the pit of Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. After years of avoiding free to play phone games, there's just been so much press on them recently that I had to try it out. It's pleasant enough to play when listening to podcasts. I also was thinking about trying Clash Royale after that GB conversation, so I'll be joining you in that horrible choice soon.

Those aren't missiles, just packages that are delivered really really fast.

That one thing that's really missing from SmartGo. I wish it would show scoring so I can learn what to watch for. -
Idle Thumbs 253: Ambitious Ambivalence
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Oh my god, the Journeyman Project series was probably one of the first series that I begged my parents for the sequel. It marked me moving on from being a kid who just bought the prettiest game on the store shelves. I had no idea they remade the first game. I think I might buy the three pack.
