  1. State of Decay

Hmm, everything I had heard before was couched in a wierd "This other guy said the developer said that they'd like to put it out on PC sometime" sort of thing. Good to know it's official, hopefully we get a date soon.
  2. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

I like some of the DRM features they've announced, like being able to lend games to a friend, having the family group accounts so everyone can play games wherever they are, and confirmation that anyone can play the game on the xbox it was downloaded on. Those go a long way to making me more comfortable with the Steam-ize-ing of my console. 24 hours though is pretty damn lousy.
  3. State of Decay

I really want to, but I don't get downstairs to my Xbox very often anymore. I'm hoping for an official PC announcement.
  4. Please try it out and stream it I'd love to see more LoMa streams.
  5. General Video Game Deals Thread

Steam sales no longer have any hold over me. I simply have too many games to play, and then even with the variety of games I have, I've been playing the same boring ones anyway.
  6. Papers, Please

I do not like your face.
  7. I like kickstarter because I can throw $20 in, forget about it, then suddenly an awesome game shows up at my door a year later. It's like signing up for one of those Jelly-of-the-Month clubs.
  8. Damn that sounds awesome. Crusader Kings + Final Fantasy Tactics? Yes please!
  9. Favorite Game Of All Time

Final Fantasy Tactics introduced me to a whole new style of gameplay, in which I have since played a lot other games, but none have managed that cross-section of complicated mechanics, story about both interesting politics and the usual end of the world, and emotional impact. I could name a lot of other strategy type games that I've put a lot of time in, but that's the one that really started it all.
  10. CK2+ mod? Color me intrigued, Steam seems to indicate that Old Gods has already landed.
  11. Civilization V

The little city-states have really powerful militaries and the benefit of having very little turf to have to protect. Generally, I shy away from trying to conquer them after the first hour or two.
  12. If nothing else, this thread has reminded me I haven't played Crusader Kings in a while. I need to rectify that.
  13. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

That seems way too complicated to be worth it for most game stores. Just sell a new copy instead if the profit margins are going to be the same.
  14. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

It happens all the time. PS3 and X360 consoles are sold at a loss (as is the WiiU I think, but Nintendo was the only company making an actual profit off the console for a long.) Thus, if a user buys an X360 and doesn't purchase a certain number of games and other content, MS is taking a loss on the deal. Add to the that the MS's profit margins are larger on digital sales than disks, and you start to get to a situation that users that only buy a few disks a year and don't have the internet to pay for a Gold subscription aren't valuable anymore.
  15. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

Sadly, MS isn't interested in those people because they're not making digital purchases.
  16. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

I decided to move my general feelings to a new post since that one was getting so long. I'm OK with more security on the games. I don't generally sell that many used games anyway, and I try to buy new because I want to support the developers. What I don't want is to still be paying $40 for ME1 or COD4 years later (example numbers, may not be real.) I would welcome our new DRM overlords if they can keep prices reasonable and provide some way for my Wife and I to both play the same game without having to buy two copies. The current licensing system for XBLA content is perfect. The kinda sorta always online thing doesn't effect me much, but I can see the problems that others will be having. I'd perfer to see it license once a week rather than once a day. That will allow folks to take an Xbox on vacation or whatever without swetting it. As long as the verification packets or small, you could even do it over a cell hotspot if necessary. Liking the service portfolio they're putting out there, but didn't like how they barely touched on the social aspects of the whole thing. I want to see party systems, watching Netflix together, group chats, an actual finalized plan for recording and uploading video. They didn't talk about how any of the strengths of the X360 are following onto the X1, which worries me. Finally, they're banking an awful lot on the new Kinect without showing much. Press folks are getting to stand in front of one, but not really playing any games and not in a real person's living room with real lighting and furniture arangement. If it lives up to promises, this might be a system seller for me though. If it works right every single time, not 90% of time, 100% of the time, then it could be really cool.
  17. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

My comments on some of the stuff in the thread, followed by my general opinon about the whole thing. While I don't disagree with your initial reaction (I've been an MS type for a long time, but that Sony press conference was pretty awesome) I just wanted to point out that Sony might very well have the same system. They pretty much sides-tepped the question entirely. Microsoft had so many rumors out about this that they had to say something, but Sony has been able to keep their mouth shut. I wouldn't be surprised if both systems are fairly close to parity on these anti-piracy features. To be fair, the services (XBL) are what really set Microsoft apart at the start of this cycle. I got the X360 because the online features for the PS3 at the time were pretty crap. If anything, I'm dissapointed they didn't talk more about those sorts of social features than they did. I'd really like to get a good idea of what the next gen XBL will be like. One of the guys on the Rooster Teeth podcast said it best "I view XBL as the service, the Xbox is just the device I use to get that service. I'm really excited to see how much of a performance boost having the GDDR5 memory with direct addressing for both the CPU and GPU will give. That's the dual addressing thing is the one thing that high level GPUs can't do right now (the new Intel chips are sharing memory like that, but as far as a high power nvidia card, they're still using dedicated memory on the card.) I don't follow PA Report at all, but everytime I hear someone talking about him, it's because he's being a douche. I'm not really sure why anyone pays attention anymore. I have no problem with these security features as long as pricing is in parity with PC releases. In other words, PC and Xbox games should release for the same price and if I am unable to buy a used copy of a game 4 years later, it damn well better have price dropped to $10 or less.
  18. Kerbal Space Program

Ooh, this stuff caused me some major problems that ended up with me having to manually edit the saved ship file in notepad. The Editor no longer requires you to start with a command pod when building a ship. The Editor now allows deleting or replacing the first part of your ship.
  19. Papers, Please

Except this particular person didn't have anything to stamp.
  20. Using Games as a documentary medium

From one point of view, Papa y Yo was about a true story. Also, the History Channel has made a series of games. Not sure exactly how historical they really are, but they might be worth looking into.
  21. Not getting involved in this conversation one way or another, but I would say that some of the hyper muscled loincloth wearing male characters out there make me (a male) a bit uncomfortable at times. Zangief tops my mind at this moment.
  22. Fair use laws (which are already confusing enough as is) get even more difficult once someone starts turning a profit off of it. I wonder if they served up Giant Bomb with a legal notice.
  23. Using modern technology to help you with games.

God, I remember downloading the txt file for the entire KI movelist and printing it out at my Dad's work. I felt so dang clever doing that instead of getting the three gaming magazine issues in a row to collect the entire move list.
  24. Rocksmith

I bought this for my wife a year ago, after the first few months it sadly went unused. She's still working on the guitar playing in a band with some of her college friends, so I guess that's good at least.
  25. Games for Windows Phone 8

Wow, Castlemine wants a lot of personal information, even for the non-ad-supported version. Phone Identity, Owner Identity, Photos, Music, Videos, Data Services, and Movement/Directional Sensor.
