On Xbox, that money goes to having a robust centralized set of servers that handle matchmaking for everyone on every game. This helps prevent the BS that EA has been pulling by disabling multiplayer servers a year after they sold the game, since it's out of the publishers hands. Presumably, it makes it easier for smaller devs to include multiplayer since the infrastructure is already setup for them ahead of time. Steam has free multiplayer, but it's up to every dev to set it up themselves, leading to some pretty lousy implementations (and some good ones too.) I'd hapily pay 5 bucks a month for stable, homogenious, and reliable multiplayer on Steam just like I currently do on Xbox. I hope that the money that Sony is going to start charging goes to this same sorts of things. If it does, I'll be happy to pay.

Hopefully this means that they'll host a full multiplayer infrastructure like MS does. That's one of the main things that pulled me to the X360.

They didn't exactly say that, but they implied it with a couple of PowerPoint slides.

Man, that Destiny video looked incredible.

So far, the only thing that really has me excited is Dark Souls 2

Because a game can't decide where the duplicate data is stored on the hard drive (that's the OS's job) there wouldn't be any practical gain from trying to install the same data multiple times. Even if there was, they'd be taking up resources that could be used for other things, as opposed to Bluray space that would just be empty and useless if it weren't used for duplicate data.

I'm saving that achievement card and selling it.

I kinda want to DOTA. There are also a ton of X360 games I need to beat before the X1 disaster strikes. And FTP MMOs....

I was really hoping they'd make the $400 mark.

Makes me wish that Fort Zombie had actually turned out the way everyone wanted.

Confirmed, re-release of the same old X360 garbage on X1

I can't believe they actually said a price.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

While I'm thinking about this, I finally gave up on FTL. I was able to beat it on easy after watching the Idle Thumbs stream, but I'm just tired of bashing my head on it on normal difficulty. That's actually an accomplishment since I officially quit playing it twice before when I couldn't even get to the boss on easy. -

I've been working through it occasionally taking Giant Bomb's advice to heart, "It's too long, just do the main quest and the guild quests, skip the side quests." It's supposedly a 40-60 hour game, I don't blame anyone for cutting out in the middle. -
Sad and yet apathetic that I have to work through this at a location that doesn't allow streaming video.

I expect it will end up just like that Modern Warfare 2 boycot steam group picture that everyone likes to pass around.

I was planning on watching those yesterday, but I got distracted. Maybe tonight after I've watched the E3 pressers from Sony and MS.

How can they say they're teaming up with Xbox but then have this disclaimer at the bottom Sound less like teaming and more tagging along with and annoying.

I will never buy a Nintendo console again while purchases are still irrevocably (at least without shipping in to Nintendo) attached to the console they were purchased on.
-
Oh, I get it. I thought Global Silence muted everyone on both teams. OK, it makes sense now.
-
Wait, what am I watching? Is he killing all his allies? Edit: Nevermind, he's spectating from the other team's angle. Still not 100% sure what I'm watching though.

Also state of Decay is $20 and Last of Us is a full price game, so you can't really draw a direct comparison there.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

Since when could Interplay buy anything? Wasn't their last property the Fallout MMO? -
I was wondering if anyone would bring up Crusader Kings. It's my most played game on Steam and I've done all sorts of crazy backstabbing and selective breeding to build up the ultimate bloodline. I relish the thought of not only getting to do that with multiple houses at once, but then also taking those chess pieces into turn based strategical combat. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see more personality than cattle or Pokemon there (Crusader Kings occasionally has some pretty interesting character based events) but I don't know why so many seem adverse to the "eugenics" thing.

I liked the PS4 announcement a lot and it got me enthused for the new generation when I was pretty apathetic before. All this XbOne stuff has succeded in making my apathetic again. I hope that E3 has some cool stuff, I hate feeling so meh about the whole thing.
