  1. GTA V

This review quote from The Escapist actually makes me want to play the game.
  2. Project Godus: Don't believe his lies

While I have not played the game, nor do I disagree with the opinions expressed here, I want to point out it's an early beta (alpha really, since it isn't feature complete) with balance issues specifically called out in the known issues section of the patch notes. Like BigJKO said, post on the 22cans forums, influence game, maybe it will turn out to be something you like in the end (or maybe not) but it isn't doomed yet.
  3. Project Godus: Don't believe his lies

In the demonstration I was shown at PAX, there are varying levels of terrain deformation as you level up your god-hood. At one point he was able to double-click and create a pretty large outcropping with one action. But yes, that did look kinda tedious.
  4. Pokémon X and Y

Interesting, and a change for the better I think. It will make throwing pokemon of the same type as the enemy into a fight a little less useful. It always felt like a cop out to me.
  5. GTA V

That's how I felt about GTA IV. So I did take it seriously (never ran over pedestrians if I could avoid it, drove more or less legally, reloaded if I ever died in any of the missions) and ended up hating it by the end. I still have a hard time with the gameplay of GTA games crossed with the story they try to tell. Saint's Row is much more in my wheelhouse these days.
  6. Analogue: A Great Story

The irony of being uncomfortable lying about cooking a cake to a character in a video game is not lost on me. I keep telling myself that I just want to try out a new recipe, but I know it's because I'm weak. What's a little jarring to me is the fact that I've lied to this game several times because there was no way to really progress without doing it, but a cake is what it decided to call me on? It's wierd how they break the 4th wall here, but then they don't mention a thing about how I told the game that I'm married, but I'm still flirting with a digital person. I dunno what I'm trying to say really, but I've been unwilling to move on past the cake part until I figure it out. Maybe I'll load up my other Analogue endings and see how they play to this point. At least I've been less dishonest in those.
  7. Life

Or it could even be someone who they thought they could get for cheaper interviewed. With budgets the way they are, I've seen less qualified people get hired all the time just so the company could save a few bucks.
  8. Ruining Children's Minds with Marketing

Crossfire always looked so cool. In other news... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8B0PfV2R0I
  9. Life

A little late in on this, I hadn't read anything recent in this thread until today. That's pretty much the definition of a mid-life crisis. It has been my experience that most people have these feelings, even ones who most would consider very successful. Honestly, when I fall into these ruts I've taken either to changing jobs, or picking up a new hobby that creates something in the end (painting, writing, programming, etc.) Even if you don't stick with the hobby long term, it can be a great stress relief.
  10. I Had A Random Thought...

    How did it go?
  11. GTA V

I suspect that a shot taken from a video might very well have some motion blur both from effects being rendered by the game and imperfect video compression. Regardless, that console shot looks like garbage.
  12. GTA V

The real question is, after the X360/PS3 release, when they announce the PC version, will you refuse to buy it because they didn't announce it now? If no, then they haven't lost anything by making you wait. I guess Rockstar and I are of the opinion that the number of people that will buy it twice (way too many I'd wager) are worth the few people that are waiting for the PC version and then change their minds later. Besides, even if they did announce it and put up pre-orders, nothing is stopping you from canceling that preorder at a later time.
  13. Microtransactions - Ragnarök confirmed

The bigger point here is the energy system. Once you play 10 fights in a day, you have to put the game down and wait for energy to come back. I don't like purchasing games that then tell me how much I can play.
  14. Banished - The Indie City Simulator

Disasters in Tropico 4 are the most annoying thing. I think I'm over the point in my life that I want to hit the Godzilla button just to watch the world burn.
  15. Pokémon X and Y

Wow, I just pick the one that I like the look of (or that my friends don't pick if others are playing.) I never go into Pokemon with this much analysis. If I make it through the first time and am still interested in playing, that's when I start breaking out the spread sheets.
  16. GTA V

Rockstar doesn't get any money from you pre-ordering the game, unless it's through their store. It's Amazon/Gamestop/etc who's holding onto your money, not Rockstar. There is absolutely no benefit for them to annouce a PC/X1/PS4 version at this time. If anything. there is a small detrement in possbily loosing a few X360/PS3 sales from those people are willing to wait. It's dumb, everyone on here knows there will be more versions, but it makes sense.
  17. Recently completed video games

Finally, after owning it since release, I have completed the main campaign of Tropico 4. I've got to say that the last mission was actually challenging, and I only squeeked it out with about 8 months left to go until automatic failure. I could swear that I had the 80s DLC, but it's not registering for some reason and I decided to take that as a sign that I'd played quite enough of it and called it done. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it, it gets tedious very quickly, but I definitely had some fun with it along the way as well.
  18. Incognita

Oh yeah, that game. I think I saw it at PAX. Unfortunately, no one I was watching could play it worth a damn.
  19. The Bureau: Xcom declassified

That's a heck of an offer, but I know that it would just sit on my hard drive, sadly neglected.
  20. GTA V

People on this very thread are waffling between getting it now and waiting for a possible PC version. I would think that at least some of those same people would commit to PC if they new for sure it was going to happen here soon. Thus, it would have an impact if they released it. Alternately, if you've already comitted to holding out, what difference does it make if they announce it this week or next week?
  21. GTA V

If they announce there will be a next gen version or a PC version, people won't buy the 360/PS3 version. I'm sure they're shooting for one of those lame "Biggest Entertainment Launch Ever" type headlines, so they're going to keep their mouth shut until after release. As for the screenshot, Amazon has been known to put up speculations before and that cover is definitely a bit odd.
  22. Games with interesting economic systems

How about Anno 2070? I haven't played it myself, but success in the game is based around giving the citizens what they want, right?
  23. DOTA 2

They had me warding both ends of the river, and complaining that we still didn't have enough vision. I'm not really all that experienced with pulling camps yet, only 25 games in or so, but I'll work on that.
  24. DOTA 2

So, wards. Last night I was playing with a friendly, yet intense gentleman from the Giant Bomb group who was clearly much more experienced in the game than a "low level matchmaking" group really should have been playing with. I was playing support lich, and was getting my first reak experience in warding. The problem is, that I was running around warding so much (and dying once or twice when ambushed in the river) that I ended up being level 4 when everyone else on my team was 8+. So, how should I manage the warding process and still being able to farm enough to be useful in the mid-game? Is there something obvious I'm missing here? Or as the weakest support am I pretty much doomed to be handicapped in levels?
  25. DOTA 2

Leaving games in progress, even blowouts, will eventually get you thrown into a low priority matchmaking queue. Not saying don't ever do it, but doing it too often will just get you stuck in the sewers playing against people that are even worse. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9585-EOSN-3800 Edit: I hadn't considered what happens if everyone quits before the 5 minutes is up. Not sure how that works.
