Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a very long somewhat interesting RPG with a new take on the generic fantasy world. I know there's a lot of people who don't like it, but I thought it was unqiue and well worth a try. It's looooong though, way longer than it needs to be. Do yourself a favor and skip most of the sidequests. Edit: Hmm Shadows of the Colossus. I just got done reading the thread on that, so I've had most of it spoiled for me. Additionally, I got two colossi into the PS2 version of the game then quit in frustration. Still could be fun though....

Hmm, apparently my work is now blocking some parts of the steam site, but not others. It makes for a real scrambled looking page. Sounds nice though.

Hmm, parts of the Steam website are blocked at work and that link looks like a mess. Could you give me the elevator summary of what Gun Monkeys is?

Man, through an unfortunate chain of events, I just ended up doing a phone interview solo, and by that I mean I was the interviewer. I have never flubbed and stumbled so much on the phone before. I was more nervous doing that than I ever have as an interviewee.

But you just thought it.

In the end, it's a cheap way to use my nice $150 headset on her computer. If it doesn't work, it'll still be something handy to have around.

If you're going to go as far as Steam Machine, you might as well go right to Steam Engine.

That Kitchen looks gorgeous, if only it had some more counter space.

The D-pad on the X1 controller is much nicer. Hopefully it will be easy to get the new controllers hooked up to the PC. This made me feel a lot better about the whole process. I generally turn down closed betas for stuff like this just because I hang out on enough video game forums to not want to have to worry about slipping out protected info.

That's a couple of good recomendations there. I didn't think to check Wirecutter. Even better, we have a nice headset lying around, so that USB sound card I think is the ticket for me.

No thermal paste between the fan and the heatsink, just between the heatsink and the chip. The airflow through the fins of the heatsink is what cools, not contact with the fan itself.

She's on a laptop unfortunately, so it's going to have to be USB. It seems like most of the options hover around the $50 range, so I guess we'll have to see if we can find a place with some display models.

I figured I'd piggyback on this thread to ask for headset recommendations. I currently have a Logitech G930 that I absolutely love. Now that my wife and I are playing games together with folks online, I want to get her a headset as well, but maybe something more thrifty since she doesn't play nearly as often as I do. I'm thinking USB will be fine for her (her computer doesn't have a microphone jack so 3.5mm won't work) but I still want pretty nice comfort and sound quality, both in and out. The current forerunner on my list is the cheaper wired and stereo version of my own headset, the Logitech G230, but I'd love some more suggestions.

I agree, in an optimal world, I'd like one parent to be able to stay at home with the kids at least until school age, but perferably until the tweens. I don't care which parent it is, but someone should be given the chance to be there.

Having gone through this pain myself, I can say that I had a really hard time finding the exact correct fan. I went a couple places locally that said they had fans that fit that particular card, and it didn't fit quite right. I took measurements myself, and it still didn't fit. What I ended up getting was a completely new heatsink/fan combo for my card so I didn't have to worry about the fan fitting in a particular space, and even that didn't seem to work that great.

So, work gave me an iPhone 5C. I need a list of the go-to games that have been Android/iOS exclusive. Pretty much anything, old or new, is fair game. I've been stuck with a Windows phone so I haven't had the chance to play much.

The bits I saw while my wife was watching Girl und Panzer looked pretty good, but I wanted them to be even more technical and detailed about the tanks. I guess I'm more of a World of Tanks player than an Anime watcher.

I've been feeling this way myself of late.

I bought the 1 and 2 double pack. Until that comes in, I have Last of Us that I got at PAX and Journey to play.

Pulled the trigger, now waiting for my machine to download 10 games or so.

At this point we still don't know what the announcement is, so there's no way to know how it will influence the PC game market.

Should have just woke her up. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=waking-a-sleepwalker-may-kill-them Either that or filmed her for youtube.

While I don't necessarily agree with the way he put his point across, I don't disagree with the central point he's trying to make. Penny Arcade makes offensive (to different groups of people) comics all the time. If they'd made this particular comic, then moved on. Those people who were offended could have just skipped over the comic that day, and it would be over. It's his immature dragging the issue through the mud repeatedly, making a second comic, making and pulling the merch, and general asshattery around the whole thing that has made this terrible issue linger for years now. It sounds to me like he's basically saying "we're not going to engage with people who are fighting over our comics" which is a good thing. I might have made the same mistakes in my mind that he has made in public over the last few years, but the difference is that I keep my mouth shut.

The way it was explained to me back in Sunday school was that God wanted to know what it was like being human, so he took a piece of himself and made Jesus, who had all the faults, emotions, and problems that a real human had. When it came to the end of the Jesus's life, he, being human and having the same fears as us, wasn't thrilled for it to end even if he knew he'd be returning to be part of God again. There are tons of sci-fi stories that borrow this idea in different ways. The STNG episode "I, Borg" comes to mind immediately. A part of the whole, who then experiences what it's like to be human, then doesn't want to go back. Yes, I'm saying that Hugh is Jesus. Edit: Bablyon 5 slso played around with this concept a bit:
