It makes me feel good that the computer effectively rage-quit.

It's been talked about in a few threads but I haven't seen a conclusive answer yet. Are we all patched up here for Heartbleed?

Interesting, that could potentially be illegal if they obtained information from legimate user accounts that they were not investigating directly.

I didn't find too many pieces of armor in Dark Souls that really stuck out to me as being superior. In general, I just grabbed whatever looked cool and was the right weight.

I got annoyed on the otherside when I was seeing those options and advertisements when I had already preordered the expansion, so I can understand. Advertising sucks, but there will always be that fraction of people who wouldn't be aware of the expansion without having it shoved in their face.

This movie was talked up a lot to me, which I think sent me in with unreachable expectations. Still I think it's probably my second favorite Marvel film behind Ironman 1, so that's cool. It helped that, despite Captain America being one of my favorite Marvel characters, I didn't know a lot of the details about the twists and turns in the movie. I was actually caught by surprise a couple of times, which is a rairity for me in cinema today. I'm looking forward to catching up on the last few episodes of Agents of Shield to see how that all changes.

The area down past the Hydra is where I went on my playthrough. Be warned, it isn't easy (but what is in Dark Souls, eh?)

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
Dewar replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
It was really tough for me to make the call not to buy it on 360 or PS3. What ended up tipping the ballance for me is that I like hanging out on Mumble talking to friends when I play and I share a TV with a few others, both of which have contributed to my near-abandonment of consoles.- 1284 replies

Explore around, there are multiple paths to take at this point (including the path to the boss that you were having a hard time with before you restarted.) Regarding the guy with the big mace (named Havel the Rock) there are videos on youtube of people killing him strictly using parry and risposte, so it's definitely possible. The thing to keep in mind about that fight is that it is optional, and that you got to it earlier than most because you started with the special key. Following the "regular" path of the game, it would be a few more hours before you came to him, and even then he'd be pretty dang hard. Edit: Oh, posion and toxic do DoT damage to bosses and there are several ways to inflict them, but generally the DoT damage is low and slow enough not to make a difference unless you can get yourself in a cheese position where the boss can't hurt you.

I guess maybe it's time to get a password manager rather than using a combination of same passwords (for non-important sites) and text files on my home PC.

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))
Dewar replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
Two more weeks before the PC version comes out. Sounds like the frame rate is pretty solid even if the graphics quality itself isn't all that much better. It's worth the wait for me to have smooth frames, variable frame rates kill me.- 1284 replies

It didn't bother me losing that since it only seemed to work about 1/2 of the time anyway. Something about the way it controls just seemed iffy for me.

Weapons have several special upgrade tracks they can go on that do things like add fire damage, holy damage, or change the stat scaling on them. Quality is one of those traits. I wouldn't worry about it yet, it takes a while before you unlock the abilitiy to play with those extra traits. I posted this in the quitter's thread. But my weapon selection for my character (sorcerer/rapier) boiled down to being frustrated that I kept hitting walls when trying to use the long sword and wanting something with a straight jab. Once I had settled on the weapon, I started uping Dex (which also inproves spell casting speed) and kept my eye out for more rapier type weapons. Eventually, I had played enough of the game that I hopped into the wiki and took a lot at the special named rapiers in the game, picked one, and went with that. I think being comfortable with the move set of a weapon is far more important than the actual stats of the weapon, as all the different smithing options in the game make most weapons viable.

Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics

I win almost every game I play with my Warlock deck, but man do i suck at the Arena. Further proof that my skill in collectible card games is in the deck building, not the deck playing. -
Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Dewar replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
The feeling of not knowing if I was doing it right was part of what attracted me to it, even if I ended up looking at a guide about that same time you're stuck to at least get the recommended world order down. In general you can start out with putting stats into whatever weapon you have on hand at the moment. Then when you find one you really like the move set of, concentrate on that and maybe look up what other weapons are like it. Personally, I went for rapiers since I hated when I would swing and my sword would hit the wall next to me. Minor spoilers regarding that boss and my path through the game: A little bit more spoilery help with one of your other complaints about that boss, but still not too bad. -
I keep on meaning to make a real gaming topic on this, but then I get distracted and forget by the time I get home from work.
-
Yeah, I can make it all the way to the boss on normal (and have beaten it on easy) but the way the final boss works is less than thrilling for me.

Once you've signed in once, you can continue to sign into your GFWL profile offline. But yeah, not really an optimal solution.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
Dewar replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
Once could make the argument that the timeline was changed in First Contact, so Picard and the rest of them hadn't heard of the Borg at all when they first encountered them, and after the timeline was altered that there was no reason for them to mention that Archer had found them first. But yeah, the end of that was kind of lame. -
I'm kind warming up to the idea of Occulus and Facebook being together. I figure the chance that Occulus, standing on its own, running out of money and folding is probably about equal to the chance of Facebook stepping in and messing things up.

I haven't played a whole lot lately, so I guess I'm a part of the problem. The matchmaking design along with the expansions for Diablo 3 and Crusader Kings kinda killed it for me.

There has never been an official announcement that GFWL is actually going to go down in July. That news was from an errant support document that got deleted shorly after. That being said, I'm fairly certain I read that that Dark Souls will not be fixed to remove GFWL.

Suddenly having crew members on the enemy ship makes the other combat tasks less fun as you have to avoid firing anywhere that might damage your own crew. I don't have fun balancing how much damage to do with my guns and how much to rely on my boarding party, especially once a major fire breaks out on the opponent's ship or the oxygen room goes down. Also, if you don't beam over right away, you often won't have enough power to beam them back before the ship explodes. So that encourages beaming over immediately every time, even when it's not needed. It is also possible I'm a bad FTL player.
