  1. DOTA 2

The Idle Thumbs group has been fairly silent, but a few of us here play in the Giant Bomb groups and they are generally (but not always) all right. Edit: On another subject, is there a top level summary you can give me about when to push towers and when to hang back? In general, I try to keep the creep wave as close to my tower as possible (only attacking for last hits and such) but I'm never really sure when to transition to creep-destroying push mode. Gyro constantly pushing our lane in that game really threw me off, but maybe he was doing a good job (he did have the second highest XP gain) and I just need to push harder? Or maybe he was just a muppet?
  2. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

The Archives with the wierd dancing trident dudes was one of the harder zones for me. It didn't help that I was getting invaded constantly.
  3. DOTA 2

No one pays attention to the mini-map picks though. http://dotabuff.com/matches/730169815 Slardar took mid, and he was doing all right, but also calling for mid ganks a lot. I managed to get up there and help a couple of times, but it also disrupted our lane and made it difficult to keep pace. Also, Gyro was constantly attacking creeps instead of just waiting for last hits, meaning that we were often fighting in the shadow of the enemy tower and I was having a tough time getting any last hits myself. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to work and I was just slow on the uptake, but I basically felt like the whole game I was running around confused about what I should be doing at any particular moment. *shrug* I gave up on getting QOP done for the daily and re-rolled for the first time. Edit: I actually went about 4-8 during the main game. It was suciding at the end when they were in our base that made my stats slide so bad.
  4. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I died to the boss of New Londo enough to figure out a path through the level that would only take a minute or two to get back to the fog wall. Edit: Sorry for botching that spoiler, I hope I didn't ruin anything for you.
  5. My interest in the Alien game sharply reduced when I found out it was being made by Creative Assembly. Wasn't it just 6 months ago that everyone was talking about how Rome II was a buggy pile of garbage, and a couple years before that when Empire:Total War was a pile of buggy garbage too? Where does the Creative Assembly love come from?
  6. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I assume you're not fighting him in the same arena, but instead you had to walk across a few invisible paths to get to him? I've never tried to go back to the same place again so I don't know if it's even possible, but I thought I'd ask just in case. Anyway, talking to various people who mention Seathe reveals that he is invicible for a reason. You do have to loose to him in the first fight, but in the second fight you can.... High curse resist helps a ton for this fight, which you can agument with certain rings and armor, or by carrying extra humanity (up to 30, but personally I wouldn't risk that much.)

I think it's finally time to grab State of Decay. I was tempted by Dynasty Warriors, so thanks for the tip Tanukitsune.
  8. DOTA 2

I don't mid that well really, which is just as well because playing with pubs someone always demands mid and I don't really want to argue with them.
  9. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

Kalameet was the hardest boss in the game for me, so I can't offer much advise on that. For Manus, I had more luck rolling through his spells than I ever did with the pendant. The time I beat him I got in close when he got below 50% health and DPS'd him down as fast as I could. He ended up only getting one spell off. Lots of stamina regen, and armor that deflects magic (or dark? I forget what the resist stats in DS1 look like.)
  10. Have you watched the performance monitor? It sounds like something might be redlining your HDD. Might also download Procmon and see if maybe a driver or service (maybe the old graphics card driver still hanging around, or the new one being a pain) is misbehaving.
  11. DOTA 2

Queen of Pain is now officially my least favorite hero. She can't do anything.
  12. General Video Game Deals Thread

Man, it's times like this that I can never get my Steam password right.

Ug... Triss. Am I the only one who hated her in the first game? I'm bummed that she gets the Witcher 2 nod instead of Shani.
  14. I am intrigued. The part of EVE I always liked the best was the economoics part. Edit: Hmm, Stardock. How's that going for you? I used to love their products, but ever since Impulse it feels like things have gone down hill a bit.
  15. You can buy original xbox to USB controller dongles.
  16. General Video Game Deals Thread

Wait, since when was Dead Rising Three announced for PC? Well that's one less reason to get an X1.
  17. Armored Core: Verdict Day

I'm playing on PS4. There's defintely numbers changing on the map, so there's something going on Multiplayer, but it might be just a few teams fighting each other. How would I queue up to be a merc? I imagine I'd get destroyed, but I want to at least say I tried the online. How many missions are in the campaign, it seems like maybe only 10 with the way the menu is layed out? I assume there's more than that at least. Edit: One more thing, when in AC building mode, there's a couple of different display settings that show different sets of parts. Do you remember what the difference between them is?
  18. The Ethics of Battlefield: Hardline

That sort of deadly serious tone is the way Battlefield has always felt to me (since BF2, I never played 1942) which is why I was never interested in the Bad Company games.
  19. To be fair, you're comparing the highest paid youtuber with an indie developer. You should really be comparing Pewdiepie to Ubisoft. Most Lets-Players aren't pulling down near that amount of money. Many are barely making ends meet, or have another job. I thought about this some last night, and I realized a lot of my experience isn't really applicable to this argument, as I tend to watch lets plays of emergent story type games (CK2) or creative games (Terraria, Minecraft) that rely a lot more on the person playing it to create something worth watching, rather than a story that can be spoiled. However, I do watch a lot of GB quicklooks, so I guess those sort of fall in the same category. Here's a few examples of games I've watched a lot of content for recently. 1) The Yawhg: I figured I'd start off with the most depressing one. I've seen this streamed several times now. After the Idle Thumbs stream, I was all jazzed to buy it, but now I think I've seen enough and I'm no longer interested. I'm considering buying it anyway just to support the game, but I doubt I'd play it much. At the same time, I would have never heard of it if it wasn't for the streams, so not a net loss in revenue I guess. 2) Minecraft and CK2: I owned both of these games before I started watching videos of them, plus they are the ultimate "every experience is different" sort of games that watching a video of doesn't really ruin. I did buy EU4 after seeing a youtuber with a lot of CK2 streams seemed to enjoy EU4 as well, so I guess that's a net gain in revenue. 3) Persona 4: I had definitely heard about this game before Giant Bomb played the whole thing, and had considered buying it. I still kinda want to buy it, but the length combined with having seen the whole thing has deterred me. I've also been interested in picking up Persona 3, Persona 5, or that Persona fighting game after watching those videos and have been actively avoiding Persona 3 streams as to not spoil myself. I guess this makes the net revenue uncertain in this case, as we'll never know if I would have bought it without the GB videos to watch. So I guess what I'm trying to say here is, much like piracy, a watched video on youtube doesn't necessarily equate directly to a loss sale, if I had no intention of buying (or hadn't even heard of the game) before I saw the video, Still, I can see why more story heavy, less gameplay focused games such as Yawhg and Gone Home would be a little more concerned about losing sales than Minecraft probably is. Personally, I don't understand why people would ruin those types of games for themselves anyway, but that's just me.
  20. DOTA 2

Random questionaires have been coming up for a while, but I don't recall seeing one for a specific team-mate before.
  21. The Ethics of Battlefield: Hardline

The obvious policy change is the Patriot Act, but many of the policy changes relate to court cases, in that police are getting a pass in the gray area between justified violence and police brutality.
  22. This kinda got lost in the Minecraft talk. The answer is yes, adapt or die. Giantbomb and Gamespot have both managed to find a combination of video and traditional press that's working out great. Heck, most newspapers have moved on to having a digital presence of some sort, why shouldn't the gaming press have to adapt as well. Also, the gaming press was dying before Youtube got big. How many magazines closed their doors in the last decade?
  23. It blows my mind that people are letting their young children (young enough at least to not understand the value of $100) play on these giant pay-to-win servers. I have never had a problem finding a small to mid-sized server that doesn't charge when I want one and, if I have fun, I'll kick in a donation. These giant servers sound like a nightmare. Edit: Also, I have no sympathy for someone who is making money off a game and didn't read the EULA. If they really think theyr'e getting cheated, they should take it to court. I'd love to see an EULA challenged in a real court case, regardless of the outcome.
  24. DOTA 2

Rough game last night. I thought we had it in hand, but their carries got monster in the mid-game and I couldn't keep up. Carry isn't my best suit.
  25. The Ethics of Battlefield: Hardline

So would you say it's pretty much the BF3 close quarters maps?
