  1. Except most of those folks, besides maybe Angel, are pretty worthless at it. I always saw it as Buffy basically humoring them and making them think they were being helpful.

I wish Telltale was working on a Mass Effect game instead of Tales from the Borderlands.
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

I can't imagine leaving my wallet and keys somewhere at work, or anywhere outside the house actually.
  4. Feminism

The misdemeanor charges are absolutely warranted. Buying medication off the internet is stupid, and it should be a crime whether it's abortion pills, viagra, or addictive pain killers. Ignorance is no excuse. The felony charge is complete BS, as is the judge's decision to choose such a strict punishment. The lady might not want to make this into a pro-life/pro-choice issue, but the judge has already made it that, despite his protests to the contrary.

I loved the first 4 hours of ME1 where you're just wandering around the citadel taking care of the small stuff before you launch into the galaxy saving stuff. ME2 felt a lot more like an action movie to me, which isn't what I come to Mass Effect for.
  6. Steam Curation!

So pop in and flag them as not interested?
  7. Regarding the Zelda talk at the very end of the episode, how about a Zelda/Link game structured like Resident Evil 2, where both Link and Zelda are weaving through the story line seperately, but meet occasionally? Not having any context about his comments on the Zoe Quinn issue, I like his taste in games, which makes him a logical choice for a steam curator for me. I went down about the first 10 pages or so of curators and added a bunch of youtube people as well as Double Fine, Idle Thumbs, and a bunch of others that I discovered through that network. Wait, so London sank into the sea and then came out the other side and is now on a Sunless Sea? At this point I'm probably going to buy it but I still have no idea what the setting is.
  8. D4 by SWERY

As SWERY gets more aware of the view that the western world has of him, the stuff in his games seems to get more crazy for craziness's sake. Some of what I saw of D4 went too far to grab me. At some point it feels like pandering.
  9. I Had A Random Thought...

Bum bag sounds as funny to me as I'm sure Fanny Pack sounds to you, especially given the meaning of "fanny" over there.
  10. Steam Curation!

On the first day, I went through and added about 20 curators, removed 40 things from my wishlist and "followed" them instead, and ran through two sets of 12 recommendations that mostly came up with what's popular now and set most of it to not interested. On the second day, the list of 12 that I got was pretty awesome and I found 3 things on there that I ended up following. I guess it's working for me?
  11. Don't Starve

    Ah, missed the beta sign-ups
  12. Life

I have a friend who brought his own stove, and I was considering doing the same. Generally they want you to store the old unit and put it back when you are done, or agree to a deal ahead of time where they will purchase the appliance from you when you leave at a fairly depreciated price. I believe my friend bought a $1500 oven and got something like $400 when he moved out two years later. Synthetic, that's really wierd, but apparently legal as long as it is disclosed in the lease. I'm not sure whether you'd get to keep it or not if you had to replace it. I'd imagine a written notification to your landlord that it broke, and their official response of "tough luck" would be enough to cover you in court should you leave with the fridge that you purchased.
  13. Steam Curation!

I really enjoy that you can follow games now. I've been able to trim down my Wishlist to things that I really want to buy, and then follow games I'm somewhat interested in but undecided. I went and added a bunch of curators as well, and that's been pretty cool so far.
  14. DOTA 2

Oh, I didn't realize they did a random hero instead of the A-Z challenge where you have to do them in order. That sounds pretty cool, but it doesn't sound like you get any real rewards for doing it, or the option to skip and come back if it's a hero that you just have a bad time with.
  15. DOTA 2

Wait, is Shadow Fiend new, or is it just getting a complete re-work? Edit: Wow, that's a lot of changes.
  16. Life

Hmm, I guess this says something about my upbringing, but when my parents started to rent they went to a lawyer friend to ask about the difficulties involved and he mentioned the lawsuit horrors that can happen if you violate one of like 100 rules. They just decided it wasn't worth the hassle. It boggles my mind that landlords get away with that stuff.
  17. Ferguson

I believe there was a post a couple of pages back saying that the govenor had vetoed the cameras, but I can't find it now.
  18. I really do want this to be good, but I'm still worried about it being Creative Assembly making it.
  19. Steam Curation!

That's cool, the Idle Thumbs list is on page 4 of the top curators with 824 people following.
  20. Feminism

Is this academic criticism though? It seems to me that Anita is trying to reach a larger audience than that. Personally, the most interesting Shakespeare class I ever took was one where we went through the entire text of the plays and talked about the cultural and literary influences of the time. Does that make for the best academic paper, not really, but it did make a great 100 level literature class that I actually remember long after I've dismissed the other GURs I took during that time.
  21. Recently completed video games

Last night I completed two games. First off, I finished my goal in Lunar Flight, to complete one of each mission type on every map, including Mars. I'll probably keep putting around in this game to pick up a few more achievements here and there, but it's nice to set a goal in these things then attain it. It's become my "play for a few minutes before work game" and I'd highly recommend it. Mars adds some pretty crazy challenges if you haven't tried it yet. Also, I beat Lone Survivor on PS3. I got the blue (bad) ending, due in no small part to having fired more than 200 pistol shots during my playthrough. I really like how they give you a huge list of all of the factors that influenced you score at the end, and it seems like they made it pretty easy to go back and play through to get the other endings. The thing is, they just don't give enough story to really make the time investment feel worth it. I understand the want to be mysterious, but there just isn't enough substance to make the poor to middling gameplay tolerable. It's a shame too, because the first 30 minutes had me utterly intrigued. Edit: Thanks in part to buying a bunch of multiplayer games for a party and calling them "complete" when we played every game mode at least once, I'm at 46 games completed this year versus 40 games purchased. I'm on target for my goal of beating more games than I buy, as well as beating a game a week (a challenge I've seen others on here doing.) It feels kinda nice.
  22. Feminism

Youtube just did the thing where they basically play half a John Oliver episode as a commercial between clips. It was on the Miss America pageant, and it was increadible.
  23. Hack & Slash

I was originally planning on picking it up, but the art style really turns me off. Today I watched the Giant Bomb quick look and saw some of the later hacking stuff and that looked pretty entertaining, so I dunno, I might still pick it up *shrug*
  24. Destiny

Great opening to that article. Unfortunately, it cements the view in my mind that I'd never be able to put up with the BS long enough to get to the fun.

That's why every game should have a respec. Make it expensive and/or difficult, but at least make it possible. I don't want to have to sweat every leveling decision all the way through the game, but I do want those choice to matter.
