Idle Thumbs 179: Shadow of Something
Dewar replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Achievement Hunter has some videos of them playing it. It didn't seem bad, just unremarkable in every way. Also really hard to figure out where the enemies are. -
The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Dewar replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Comments in various articles seem to indicate a lot of folks renegotiated the contract to get some of the most horrible stuff removed, which I guess means we'll never know who exactly signed what. -
If you're concerned about theme, the CQ DLC is more Christmas themed than Halloween themed. Sort of a Nightmare Before Christmas kinda combo.

Rune Factory is pretty good if you like Harvest Moon with fantasy tropes and combat.

Idle Thumbs 179: Shadow of Something

Hmm, I guess that makes sense. I'd only ever heard of Uruk being used in Uruk-hai, thus I thought they'd just shortened the name. -
Oh certainly, I just meant that the level that you have to get to in order to unlock the option to walk through the front door is 24, not that you'd be any good once you got in.

Idle Thumbs 179: Shadow of Something

If we're going to be pedantic, I'd just point out that 2011-2020 is "this decade" and 2001-2010 is "last decade," so in that sense they did come out in the last decade. There's a scene in the Two Towers movie that shows the Uruk actually being created in the depths of the stone underneath Sauramon's tower. I kinda dug the concept that the regular orcs were an actual race that was corrupted, but the Uruk were created in vats. Of course, Shadow of Mordor has every single Orc in the whole game being called an Uruk. In the end, the movies conflict with the games which both conflict with the books (and the books conflict with each other for good measure.) -
I believe it's 24 minimum, 26 recommended by Bungie, 28 perferred.

Captains, once branded, should never reset. Other orcs reset the same way that a dead orc would respawn (wandering too far away or starting a mission.) I imagine the eye glow is supposed to just be visible to you. Frankly, when things get crazy toward the end of the game, you'll be thankful for the eye glow or else you wouldn't be able to tell your enemies from your allies.

I should note that for all my complaining, I really liked it. So much so that I'm thinking about actually setting up OBS and streaming some post-storyline play. I figure since everyone's nemesis system looks different, it could be something unique to watch.

It's all fun and games until one of them tastes blood, then we have a horror movie in the making.

The DLC was better than the main game in my opinion, but I also thought the CQ1 went on a bit too long so it might just be the brevity of the DLC that I liked.

The Giant Bomb folks made it sound like the developers were seriously worried it might scare someone so bad they'd faint or have a heart attack or something.

You do in fact brand them with a blue spiritual hand print on the face, so I guess that's why they chose the name. It has to be an invisible mark to everyone else, or else why would any other orcs follow them?

Were you temp through an agency, or just by yourself? Unemployment laws are different by state, but I believe you'd still be eligible in Washington at least.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I believe the point is that there isn't one plane that is objectively better. Instead, the goal is finding the right parts that suit your playstyle. -
3 weeks doesn't seem long enough to me to be willing to so sacrifice my ethics, but I don't know exactly how dire your money situation is. Have you filed for unemployment? Even if you don't think you'd be eligible, you can at least try and file and see what they say.

I already have a bunch of really long complicated games to play when there are people that are interested in that. At the moment, I'm trying to find more bite-sized games to entice others that are a little less interested in the crazy stuff.

It's been a while since I've been serious about LotR, but when I was serious (read all the books, even the ones that were finished by his son, and played the pen and paper RPG.) I was pretty damn serious. It seems to fit in fairly well with the books. Keep in mind that Bilbo is fairly young (30s I think) in The Hobbit and he's celebrating his 111st birthday in Fellowship of the ring. There's plenty of time in there to play with. If I had to guess by looking at dates from Wikipedia, I'd say this takes place approximately 10 years after The Hobbit.

Awesome comic, it really spoke to me. Maybe it's growing up 6 years earlier than her or maybe it's the fairly luddite area I grew up, but I went through a lot of the same things (though obviously not as difficult) she describes as a guy. Instead of being told to be more girly, I was being told to be more manly, play sports, etc. The thing that really struck me is that I was eventually able to find a few other guys like me around the age of 14, while she wasn't able to find anyone and gave up on the whole thing about the same time. I'm struggling to make this not sound like an anti-feminist "I went through that too" sort of a post, so I'll just go back to my first comment and say it really spoke to me, both because of the similarities and differences.

Having the second seperate nemesis pyramid is handy, but I agree I'd rather have one larger connected map. Still the greenery of the second area didn't bother me. The story takes place as Sauron is returning to Mordor after a long absense. It makes sense that some actual livable areas would have appeared while he was gone, and it's able to tell the story of the orks spoiling the land all over again. As far as the narrative dissonance, remember that most of the characters in the game don't know you have a wraith buddy and really haven't seen you ripping through orks the way you're able to by the end. It makes sense to caution you, you're just one human afterall. I did like the story, even though it seems a lot of people didn't.

Hmm, it's been a while since I played Monster Hunter. Maybe I should dig in again.

I decided to buy Resistance: Avalon after seeing them play it on Giant Bomb. Since there's a few rounds where people actually have to do something, I'm hoping people will give away more hints.

Our group found it a bit difficult to figure anything out because no one was giving clues (or at least they weren't after I started shuffling around the room a bit to diguise any other noises.)

I think pretty much everyone goes to http://boardgamegeek.com/ Some of the people there are pretty... intense, but there's a good variety of users overall.
