  1. After taking a break for a couple of weeks, I came back to do the challenge, managed to do it in the final bar. Not watched the result yet saving that for another day.

I only have a couple of puzzles to get now and a load of the e puzzles, but I am at a good place with it. What a game.

  2. God, I had such a grin on my face when I realised what was going on with the challenge. Not finished yet, but boy there is something about it that really made me happy. I had goosebumps.

I have a question about the triangle puzzles that are lying around the map, do they build to something? I have 'solved' them but they had no discernible effect on the world.

I woke up in the middle of the night and the solution to a puzzle came to me.

Like my subconscious had been chewing on it, figured it out and got so excited that it woke me up to tell me.

This sounds like a good feeling.

  3. You're probably missing something in how the stars work. See the spoiler if you want more specifics on their mechanics. You could also post a pic of your failing solution if you want some more specific help.

Stars need to have exactly one other symbol in their area of the same color and it doesn't necessarily have to be another star (like how in that treetop puzzle you mentioned the star pairs with the tetromino). It's likely you're failing because there is more than one tetromino in the star's zone that is the same color. It's that or the shape is wrong, but I doubt that's your problem.

And with that, the door is open. Thanks!

  4. I'm not bothered about coming here for hints/discussion. If my friends played this id probably be having similar chats with them.

I am in a late game area with many puzzles and I think I am on tilt. I have open a couple of doors and got about 6 puzzles to do in here and I'm just staring at them with no clue.

Can I clarify a mechanic about stars in relation to this area?

so I believed that there can only be a pair of stars per side of a line. This particular puzzle has three stars and tetronimos. There is a similar puzzle in the treetops, where you align the extra star with a piece of like coloured Tetris pieces. I try and do that on this puzzle and fail.

Due to the nature of the area there is no flashing to indicate what is failing so I am not sure what is going wrong. Am I on the right track or am I missing something?

Fun fact, my phone autocorrects tetronimos to retro imps. I know which I prefer.

  5. Yeah it's really hard to judge like, how far to go.

    Also

If you didn't know already, the lake gives you a good idea for what you're missing and where you're missing it.

I'm not sure of the exact method of tracking, but it'll tell you where the monoliths (fountains) are, how many audio logs you've found, whether you've activated the lazers (lanterns), and how many unsolved puzzles (non +, I believe) there are in the area.

Something to do with leaves and flowers and clams, too. I'd have to look it up to figure out exactly what it all means. I noticed the lanterns and fountains on my own, but can only surmise about the rest from various hints other people have said to me.

    Holy cow! I noticed

the lanterns turning on, and saw there were some fountains but didnt clock that they were related to actions in the world.

    As for post laser discussion

im only a couple of levels down in the mountain, two floor puzzles I guess, but fuck, the puzzles that move as you move the cursor gave me such motion sickness, and the colour pulsating ones gave me such a head ache. The fouth one specifically as I couldn't tell which ones were flashing due to failing or due to disco.

The next row of puzzles though we're so ingenious though that I laughed out loud when I realised the mechanic.

  6. Oh yeah that drove me fucking bonkers. I spent at least half an hour trying to figure out where that cable was supposed to lead. I guess it just unlocked that gate and I never noticed it being locked in the first place. That's another dead end area that confused the hell out of me. At least you could argue that that one's just teaching you the ropes for a later puzzle, but still. D:

    If you want some hints:

    Vague-ish hint:

You're on the right track, thinking with colors.

    Less vague-ish hint:

Look around that puzzle, see if you can view it from a different angle.

Even lesser-vague-ish-er hint (aka the way to solve it):

There's a yellow glass pane you can look through to see the actual colors. (Can't remember the exact location. You might need to solve another puzzle to get the right angle, but I'm not 100% on that.)

And yeah that ship door, hoo boy. There's only one mechanic to it, but it's a goddamn pain to solve, haha. That's one of the few puzzles I found more annoying than fun, but I did eventually get it, and was so super satisfied. :3

Dang, I noticed that right away!

It still doesn't make it that easy, for me, haha. I'm so baffled as to where some of the puzzles are located. Can't fucking figure it out, lol.

Quickly scrolled down to miss the outright hint. But I think I know what you mean now. There are some things around there that look like they fit in with solutions. I swear 9/10 of the hard puzzles are literally "take a step away and approach it with a new perspective" I'll try what I think you are on about tonight.

Cheers for the hint though. I have been coming back to this one puzzle a lot and just having no idea.

With the ship, I only spent 10 minutes on it, no major sticking point yet. I just need to work out how to apply the stimuli to the board.

  7. That's not how you solve that puzzle! :P

Well, the triangle puzzles, I think, are just random hidden puzzles that contribute to the total. They're by and large pretty easy, although it's possible finding them all unlocks something, I suppose. There are a couple dead-ends (another one is in the canyon area, where you learn how the mirror puzzles work), but I think most of those are just to teach you how to do things. This one is well after you've learned how, and then you solve 'em and boom, nothing. Could just as easily be a small challenge placed for fun, but I can't think of anything that hard that doesn't lead to anything. I

...Except those pillar puzzles, and basically all the puzzles in that area, haha. I know a lot of people think the pillars are something special. Hopefully someone will figure it out eventually.

Hmm, I'm not sure how to open that door then.

I'm at a point now where I only have two lasers to get (370+35) I presume the ship is one and the city is the other. I don't think I have seen a way to use three stars of one colour before.

Opening the door to the shipwreck is a clusterfuffle.

  8. I'm at 516+85 (or somewhere around there, last I checked was 513+81, but I found a few more puzzles and did those). I'm kind of stumped as to where the rest of the puzzles are, so I think I'm just gonna be done now. Don't really feel inclined to do any hard hunting anymore.

I do have one more question, though, about some puzzles in the village.

In one of the buildings, there's a blue light coming from the ceiling, and if you go down into the basement, you'll find two puzzles that work together (i.e., you have to use one puzzle to solve the other). Doing so brings down a staircase where that blue light was. Upstairs is a few puzzles where you ahve to change the color of the light to solve them. But solving them didn't... lead to anything? You can change the light colors to get some + puzzles from outside, but the puzzles on the inside don't actually lead anywhere.

That feels weird to me. There are very few dead ends. Almost every series of puzzles leads to something. I guess you could argue this one led to the + puzzles, but you don't need to solve the normal puzzles inside to do the + puzzles...

I guess I'm asking is, do they lead to anything or is it actually just some hidden puzzles that don't do anything?

I am wondering the same thing, I'm convinced that there is a way to turn on all three lights at once to make a white light. That will give you the colours that are on those panels and you can then use that to solve the church door.

I haven't found any way to do that though. I'm not sure the church door is solvable without that information

  9. Gah! A while ago I found a room

with sound baffles all over the walls and two puzzles - one of which was one like the chirpie ones in the jungle

, but now I can't find the flipping place again - anyone got any idea? It's driving me crazy!

It is in the village next to the church. It has an orange shipping container on top. It is the bottom floor of that building.

  10. Clarification:

Just to be clear, there are two distinct endings that I am aware of. These two endings may or may not have different versions depending on what you've done, but I've only seen one version of each.

The first ending can be reached after you activate at least 7 lasers.

The second ending is accessible from a different place, and the clue to finding it can be found after reaching a place that requires activating 11 lasers. This ending can be theoretically be reached before this, the clue merely helps.

    Ah, thanks.

  11. You are fundamentally correct, but as can be seen from the general confusion the rule is a bit vague. Spoilery hint:

Yes, in the final shape each blue piece must cancel a yellow piece.

    Outright spoiler

Most folks think of it as stacking yellow pieces with the help of the blue pieces. I think of it as placing each piece one at the time. You can even start with the blue piece.

My current understanding of the ending.

There have been some reports of vague changes in the endings based on the actions in the game. I haven't personally verified this. My understanding is that there's the 7 laser ending and a different ending available at a different location after the 11 lasers portion is done. This ending has two formats, a short and a long one. I'm not entirely sure what that depends on, probably the game state in general. I've only seen a youtube video of the short one, which is just a cut version of the long one.

Additionally, there are a ton of rumors. But I'm not sure if any weight should be given to them. Then again, with some of the idiotic achievement stuff in Braid, who knows.

I think I get the blue, will have to test when I get home tonight.

    As for the ending

I suppose the was the nub of my question, 'am I missing anything not going for the 7 laser ending', if it's just a edit of the 11 laser then I am fine with skipping it

    Thanks!

  12. Morning all, I've been plugging away at this game. At about 320+25, 6 lasers.

I have been stuck on the blue Tetris pieces like a number of people here, initially the one posted here, but now the third puzzle in the next room. I thought I understood the mechanic but now I am totally lost with them.

I think the idea is to subtract one yellow block per blue block, the shape has to match and cannot be twisted, it's just a matter of finding the right line

I had a big ramble originally written about endings, but I ultimately decided to go my own way. Just one question (assuming my understanding is correct)

can you get the 7 laser ending all the way up to 10 lasers? Is there an 11 laser ending? I assume there is a further one beyond that

    Ramble

  13. Yeah, we got up to oryx, it took us like 15 hours to get to this point trying to figure out the mechanics. We have definitely missed some stuff, there were areas that we noticed things but didn't put 2 and 2 together until later, at which point it was too late.

Oryx though. what a pain, one person goes down and you are screwed. I can't play tonight though so ill have to start again after the reset :D

I have only had one drop up until this point, 300 boots, all the engrams I am getting are decoding to 250-270. Lovely stuff

    Edit: the king is dead

  14. yeah the exotic farming basically ruins the end game, waiting for the next exotic should be a surprise, not a cheesed loot drop.

Has anyone tried the raid yet? My group hasn't finshed it yet, but we were up till 5 this morning trying to work it all out.

  15. I had a great time playing rift last night. The whole game getting an overhaul makes it seem so fresh, but as above, I will miss the wolves, such fun hunting out the chests

Managed to get the moments of triumph today, glad it was extended a few days.

  16. How do you get etheric light? My understanding is that it is a random nightfall drop and level 34 and 35 prison of elders.

Seems like you really need to punch above your weight to get it...

  17. I did the vault of glass last night for the first time. Quite a bit of hitting a brick wall but the vault itself was a beautiful looking area. Need to power level up to 34 to do crota et al now.

Shame my VoG armour drops were of a lower light level than what I had already bought from the vanguard.

  18. Is there a quick way to gain crucible rep? I've managed to get to rank 2 of the vanguard easily, but it seems that the match length and low rep rewards from crucible are making it really hard to get the last 1500 rep I need to buy the crucible armour.

Having said that though, it'll probably be easier to get the extra 50 vanguard marks and buy another bit of armour from them. That'll get me pushed to level 31,

Dragon strikes have been pretty helpful for gear though, managed to get a 36 light arm set out of that and a couple of purple weapons.

  19. Will do, my name is the same as on here but I'll let you know I got your id off of here.

The 100 cruicible wins is a bit of a joke, I won 4 matches in the little time I got to play tonight, it's counting me at 24. Ez etc.

I played a little of the story to unlock the cruicible and was having a great time blasting the low level enemies. I had forgotten about the wolves though. All these little guys then suddenly a level ?? Steps out of nowhere and knocks me into next week. Ha.

  20. Ah cheers, that's much appreciated, I'll let you know when I get to a position to do a nightfall. That's also a good point about levelling up first in crucible. I had heard people saying that that is a more efficient method, but I didn't realise it affected what you got from the story content.

Your guide seems like it will put me in a good position, thanks for taking the time to spell it out.
