  1. Steam Summer Getaway Sale

So Bioshock 1 & 2 are only 4.99, but I don't see any mention of DLC on the Bioshock 2 page. Is Minerva's Den available on Steam? I don't have too much interest in Bioshock 2 otherwise.
  2. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

It's probably just being used to zDoom and foolishly thinking that it is graphically close to what Doom looked like in 1992. Seeing Stormtroopers scale down into tiny messes of pixels surprised me. I guess I mostly am confused why I cannot run 40 miles per hour in this. I'll report back after my adjustment period.
  3. Hey, you read my question! I'll probably reply to your answer sometime tomorrow. But a less interesting example of what you guys are talking about where failure is just another step to a later victory would be the entire genre of upgrade based flash games. These are games that keep the players playing through gameplay loops where each attempt gains you enough money to do a little better the next time. Games like Shopping Cart Hero, Hedgehog Launch, and Infectionator are so popular and ubiquitous that there are even parodies, like UPGRADE COMPLETE! But they are usually focused on keeping a player on the page (thus netting ad dollars) rather than making any kind of interesting point like Rogue Legacy or Back To The First Date.
  4. Saturday Morning Streams

Ah. The URL is just what YouTube gave me when I right clicked and selected "Copy Video URL at Current TIme". Wonder why it'd do it wrong.
  5. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I just bought Dark Forces. After playing about 10 hours of Doom a week for the past 6 months, on a nice shiny platform like zDoom, it's nuts to go back to something that looks and moves like this. Having played neither game when they first came out, I really don't know if Dark Forces is really that much more primitive than Doom, or if the version of Doom I play is just that far removed from vanilla Doom. But man, the low-resolution and lack of Y-axis mouse look is really bumming me out.
  6. Games giveaway

I'll gladly take Trauma off your hands.
  7. Saturday Morning Streams

That's really dead on. It also made me think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=wk92O0SEjXc&t=343s EDIT: Weird. It's not embedding OR skipping to the relevant point in the sketch. Go to 5:43 to see the derpy hand part.
  8. Saturday Morning Streams

That was really incredible. I didn't really know Brad or the Giant Bomb cast at all, but seeing that catharsis pouring out from the stream and chat alike was really wonderful.
  9. What would Molydeux

Watching the Molyjam livestreams (I saw San Francisco, Las Vegas and Oakland) and following the molyjam tag on Twitter was a lot of fun. Haughty Or Naughty, It Feels Incredible (a local multiplayer game of queer group sex with a surprisingly fun gameplay), , and whatever that Oakland game with the tower in the desert was (sorry I can't remember the name!). But they were pretty much all really fun to watch, and inspired me to finally try to do a TWINE game.
  10. (IGN.com)

God, those quotes. "Suck it Twilight!" and "Looks to be a fun mix of stealth and action." in the same commercial.
  11. The Walking Dead 400 Days - Open spoiler thread

Most of the stories had wonderful moments that I really dug ("Fuck Wall Street." "Fuck Wall Street!" "Fuck Wall Street!") but I definitely can't call any of them particularly satisfying. For me, there's a difference between allowing the audience to work out the details (which Season 1 did so well) and a story being so anemic that it lacks any meaning at all. For the most part the way each story is set up is fantastic, giving clear portraits of each character with little exposition, but where the stories ended often felt arbitrary to me, and didn't really suggest clearly how it lead to them either joining or not joining Tavia at the end. Also, it appears that so much important story happens in between the chapters and the Tavia ending. It's almost as if they purposefully omitted the most interesting part of any given story. Which may make sense come Season 2 Episode 1, but on it's own 400 Days didn't give me that feeling the proper episodes did.
  12. The Walking Dead 400 Days - Open spoiler thread

I did feel the choice of who to shoot on the bus was not set up very clear. I didn't know I'd be leaving whoever I shot to die, and I didn't know I'd literally be shooting their foot off. I figured there'd be damage to whoever I chose, but I still thought the leather cuffs were what I'd be aiming at. In general I wish each story actually felt like a short story, but I think they were pretty much all about 5 to 10 minutes too short to actually feel complete. I never felt an actual full character arc in any of the stories, and I definitely didn't get to know them as people too well. I mean, it's DLC that (I am assuming) is meant to set up Season 2, so I don't mind it so much. I'm sure that leaving me wanting more was a clear goal of Telltale's on this from the start. Anyone else surprised at how ruthless and heartless Shel's sister was?
  13. I always heard to them referred to as "Doom Clones", which is a terminology I'm a little nostalgic for. So sci-fi!
  14. Rogue Legacy

Man, I wish ADHD made you faster.
  15. The Walking Dead 400 Days - Open spoiler thread

Yeah, I'm not sure about any of that. But according to this Wiki [WARNING: SPOILERS], the changes are pretty cosmetic and don't affect gameplay. [EDIT: It'd been too long for me to recognize any of the cancer patients.] I'll probably replay Season 1 and this all over again when Season 2: Ep 1 gets closer to release. I don't regret any of my choices in S1 and will probably play it the same, but I feel like I screwed up a bit (screwed up as in "didn't play the characters as I wanted to", not "didn't get the ideal endings") with 400 Days. One interesting thing about 400 Days is that the final outcome based on how you play the stories feels a bit more important to the gameplay in S2 than any given choice in S1 was to future episodes of that. I feel like this will lead to people replaying 400 Days a couple times to get the outcome they want to start S2 with, which seems to be a change from the stated "one playthrough should be fine" that Jake and Sean have talked about. Not that they were the leads on 400 Days, but it definitely struck me as a little different.
  16. The Walking Dead 400 Days - Open spoiler thread

This is really good. Some of the storytelling felt a little too brisk for my taste (in Vince's story I'm asked if I regret what I did without actually knowing any of the backstory of why I did it) and it felt a bit meaner than Season 1 (I feel like in every story of this game, nearly every encounter with a stranger leads to murder or murder attempts. Day-Z inspired?) but it was really good to experience that sharp characterization and dialogue again. Couple questions: Does this base anything on what you did in Season 1? Because it informed me that it didn't read any save files from Season 1 (must be some problem with the Steam Cloud, same way I never got 70% of the achievements for beating the game in the first place) but I didn't actually see a single thing that seemed to come from Season 1. I haven't been following this too closely, so I don't know if this has been covered in press releases, but I'd be a bit disappointed if this is setting up these characters to be the leads of Season 2, and not Clementine. Maybe. Eh, it'll probably be awesome either way?
  17. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

Apparently Greece's second largest city, Thessaloniki, is now rounding up trans people and putting them in internment camps. I say apparently because I haven't really seen any mainstream reporting on it. But if it's true, Jesus fucking Christ.
  18. What does your view look like?

I can see the Sears Tower from my porch and Trump Tower from my living room window, but my camera's phone is too lousy to take a picture of either.
  19. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Any apology that only comes after a huge public blowback always comes across as insincere. Also I am excited to play Gone Home.
  20. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Why am I still trying to beat Candy Box? I've been stuck on Hell for three days. This can't be worth it.
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

I was hoping to have done more acid by the time I was 25.
  22. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Quick! Everybody! What is your all-time favorite Pixies song? Or top 3? For me it's 1. Velouria 2. Debaser 3. Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf Mix) SPECIAL MENTION FOR THE FIRST 40 SECONDS OF MANTA RAY.
  23. Life

LGBT thread would not be uncalled for. Feminist thread certainly gets enough traffic.
  24. Yeah. It's the same reason that poll is only done once every ten years. But In The Mood For Love is from 2000 and made the top 25, and Mulholland Dr. from 2003 is only just outside that. But that temporal distance (along with a more carefully selected voting base, of course) is what keeps the Sight & Sound list from looking like the IMDB 250, where movies like The Dark Knight and Inception shoot up to the top almost immediately upon release.
