  1. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Once I get Fraps I'm definitely going to start uploading my Spelunky daily challenges.
  2. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I find myself having tremendous difficulty trying to adjust to the differences between the original Spelunky and this. You could hurt yourself with rocks in the old one, but never this easily. In general the physics tweaks between the two have screwed me up more than once. Still, as long as I keep doing better than Twig on every Daily Challenge, I'll feel alright.
  3. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I cannot afford the HD Spelunky but now I need it more than ever. Dammittttttttttttttt. EDIT: Ok, fuck it, I'm in. This is me.

Doom 2 Final boss is both better (more unique and badass looking!) and worse (soooo easy and boring!) than the final boss in Doom 1. It's too bad the saga of Doomguy's pet bunny didn't continue. All in all: I love Doom's gameplay, but hate mazes. I think Doom 2 tends to have a little better level design than Doom 1. And way better than Quake.
  5. It's Halloween!

You should try hollowing them out, cutting holes in them, lighting them on fire(?), and then putting them out to rot for a month. It's fun!
  6. You guys suit yourself. I kind of hope that Nick and Chris start Spelunky Today. Can't get enough.
  7. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

I imagine it's just on hiatus.
  8. It's Halloween!

It's weird to think of jack-o-lanterns as inherently American. Do pumpkins not grow on other continents?
  9. True Game Endings

Doom 1, 2, Countless Mods Doomguy has slain hundreds, if not thousands, of imps, Cyberdemons, giant spiders, Cacodemons, and Pain Elementals with only his wits and a rocket launcher. He's blasted spectres in the face with shotguns, dissolved masses of sergeants with a BFG. But he can't find the red key, and can't figure out where it possibly could be. Alt-F4, never to return. This happens to me ALL THE GODDAMNED TIME in these games. It seems to be so against their fast-paced arcadey nature. Currently stuck in Doom 2 a mere 2 levels from the end, after spending 30 minutes just pressing CTRL against every wall and surface trying to figure out where the hell I'm supposed to go.
  10. It's true that this scene in Final Destination 2 is the truest cinematic depiction of Spelunky possible. The mundane becomes the horrifying.
  11. Candy Box 2

Goddammit. Why can't they just leave us alone. Don't they know the damage they're causing?
  12. Goddammit the looping nature of Vines make everything the creepiest thing ever. Yesterday I sent an e-mail that was pretty much the exact same Spelunky obsevation and question (except not nearly as well worded) so that was fun to hear answered almost immediately. Is that Catwoman false ending in the main game? I remember renting and playing through Arkham City on the 360 way back when, and don't remember making that choice. But I didn't find much of that game memorable, outside of the super fun combat. That combat felt like playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 for the first time, realizing that manuals meant that I could pretty much link any combos anytime.
  13. It's Halloween!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO5mMVeFZEQ Nosferatu is easily the best version of the Dracula story. It makes Dracula's evil feel so elemental, representing it as a plague. Soooo spooky!
  14. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I probably would never have <spoiler> without my older cousins telling me what I needed to do.
  15. Dreams!

In my dream last night I was obsessed with how weird it was that Arnold Schwarzeneggar was once the mayor of LA (which he wasn't) so I went on Wikipedia to find a list of all of LA's mayors and Dave Thomas of SCTV was one and I thought "Yeah, I can see that."
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

Seeing Gravity tonight on a real-live actual IMAX screen. So excited. In other film news, there's a new documentary about Bikini Kill and Le Tigre front-woman Kathleen Hanna and it couldn't possibly be more generic. If you are interested in Riot Grrl and know nothing about it, it's not a bad crash course, but man was it disappointing.
  17. Feminism

Some people just want to cause chaos and, in turn, command the attention of a given group of people. This thread is not the only example of thestalkinghead doing this. Ignore button, people.
  18. It's Halloween!

The ending of Halloween, with audience reaction from 1979. (Spoilers, obv.) This is so great.
  19. It's Halloween!

I imagine it was mostly "suggested" to Del Toro. It's weird to think that, given complete control to do a couch gag, he'd decide to mostly pay tribute to himself. He even slipped in the roaches from Mimic! The most successful short film of all time (it, coupled with a making-of documentary, sold NINE MILLION UNITS on home video) is also essential Halloween viewing: EDIT: This is my first time watching the long version in a while, I never realized that the title card was a tribute to Suspiria. Oh John Landis, I love you so much.
  20. It's Halloween!

Spooky novelty songs are vital to the spirit of the season. Martian Hop And the hands down greatest horrorcore song ever recorded, . Horror Movie Rap is a very early example of horrorcore, a genre that emerged out of Houston, TX in the early 90's with artists like Bushwick Bill and Ganksta Nip. Ganksta Nip especially didn't seem to understand the difference between "horrific" and "nonsensical", so Horror Movie Rap has such amazing couplets such as and and and Simply it's one of the most baffling and delightful rap songs ever. What's the best costume you guys have ever gone as? My favorite was probably just going in a suit and creepy-ass babydoll mask. Last year me and my ex really wanted to go as the Creature from the Black Lagoon and Julie Adams, but I couldn't find a white lady's bathing suit that fit me.
  21. Recently completed video games

After probably 70+ hours of playing Doom and Doom 2 in my life I finally completed the fourth chapter, Thy Flesh Consumed. Disappointed that the final boss was yet another Spider Demon.
  22. It's Halloween!

Super Ghouls and Ghosts and Zombies Ate My Neighbors would be my go to Halloween games. I adored this Bravo special in high school. Obviously, like any list, I'm not on board for all of it, but it's a pretty well-curated list, and seeing all those horror movie clips warms my heart. And I rarely end up going to Halloween parties or stuff like that. For me, it feels like a more personal holiday. About drinking cider and reading ghost stories. My big Halloween social thing comes a couple weeks beforehand, with local arthouse movie theater The Music Box's 24-hour horror film festival, The Music Box of Horrors. Which reminds me, I also recommend checking out if any cool screenings or midnight movies are happening in your area.
  23. I love stuff like that so much. Good work. Now get to work on a video of Sean tackling Bobby Kotick out of an airplane.
