  1. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

My daily had a terrible end because my controller started screwing up bad around the "my skin is crawling..." level. Literally, the next game I played I beat Olmec. ARGH!
  2. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I haven't played a lot of the game, but given the heavily Semitic nature of the fisherman in that YouTube video and the origin of "early, funny ones", I'm gonna assume it's a take on Woody Allen. "Early, funny ones" was a popular way to reference his pre-Annie Hall films, as originated in .
  3. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I died in a blaze of glory tonight, Wild Bunch style. It was only on 1-4, I believe, but that didn't make it any less exciting.
  4. A little game told me so

Little Inferno expressed a keen understanding of addictive gaming, connecting it to the addiction of consumerism and, ultimately, the destructive end result of myopic capitalism. Spelunky expressed that you can be as offensive and racist as you'd like as long as you're really really fun, and Patrick will try to defend you.
  5. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Excellent bomb toss. I never even attempt such things.
  6. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

    This dark level destroyed me.
  7. An important question about Vampire: Bloodlines

Yeah, that was one of the solutions I tried. Ran Steam as admin, ran Vampires as admin, adjusted compatibility, disabled something-or-other settings (I am not really too computer savvy), nothing. I'm sure there IS a solution, and I bet people who are more used to PC gaming and adjusting stuff to play old games would not see this as a huge problem but someone like me, whose already not entirely sure how to even install patches, a game like this on Steam feels like a trick.

"Genre films" is an awfully broad lens.
  9. An important question about Vampire: Bloodlines

First it was telling me that I had less than 15 MB of memory, then it couldn't find Steam. I found a Steam thread about it with several people offering different workarounds, but none of them worked.

I have never seen someone hold onto the mattock that long. That was great. I wish I could have heard your voice during certain points, like when the mantrap ate your pug or when you finally killed that giant alien and, of course, the end. I was going through some old Dailies I never uploaded and remembered that this happened to me. Has that ever happened to anyone else?
  11. It's Halloween!

My absolute favorite time of year. I rarely get in the Christmas spirit, but I am always prepared to get into the Halloween spirit. Since moving from the suburbs to the city, away from so many falling leaves and jack-o-lanterns, I find that I have to work extra hard to get the mood right. So how about a thread where we post our favorite Halloween/Autumn things? A Good Selection Of Works By Edgar Allan Poe This song:
  12. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Ah, I was thinking it was c'mon + ster. I stand corrected!
  13. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Because the Black Market is always the exact same layout, I find it pretty easy to deal with shopkeepers, especially if you're already carrying a shotgun. And there's usually a fair number of bombs there to help you out. The angry shopkeepers tend to not have a very range of sight, so I can usually deal with them, depending on how I approach the exit, horizontally by shooting at them from off screen or vertically with bombs. And often they'll kill themselves, either on spikes, tiki-traps, or falling to their death.
  14. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Anytime any shopkeeper is selling a machete or a shotgun, you have the ability.
  15. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Interesting. Could you expand on that?
  16. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I ain't afraid of no ghosts. Also, the number of you who don't kill shopkeepers as a matter of course is shocking.
  17. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Oh man is there some crazy combo of traps that I missed? Cuz I died via a Tikitrap to the face only because I was too busy talking about how annoying I am when I talk.
  18. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

The whole time I was watching your run I kept thinking "How did I do better than him on the leaderboard, he's moving through these levels way more efficiently and effectively than I was", and then I saw you buy a shotgun instead of steal it. I never ever buy shotguns. If a shopkeeper is selling a shotgun that means he's having an "Everything In My Store And Pockets Is Free" sale. And I definitely think it's possible to block your way out. I was thinking the same thing when I saw you push that block.
  19. An important question about Vampire: Bloodlines

Ok, so I found the patch but getting this game to play on Windows is a nightmare. I tried about a dozen workarounds for an hour last night, couldn't get it to start. Don't buy this game on Steam. Super disappointing.
  20. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

    Ahhhhhhhhh, that makes sense.
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

To be fair, Breathless is the one I most want to give another shot, since I last saw that my Sophomore year of high school.
  22. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I got the bomb glue. And there was even a giant spider on that level, so it was useless.
  23. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Why do you skip so many pots? Also, seeing you get a different (much better) gift when you sacrifice the man tells me that sacrifice drops aren't predetermined, which I never knew.

The Halloween Daily was the best I'd ever done on a Daily Challenge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5e592wNnfs

And as far as useless remakes go (which is most of them), Oldboy seems more interesting than most. It won't be as good as the original (because the original was, you know, original) but Spike Lee keeping his toe dipped in Hollywood isn't a bad thing.
