  1. Post your face!

A few weeks ago I got married to my partner of 9 a half years! The photos from the wedding recently came through, so here's a few:
  2. This is somehow exactly as I imagined it
  3. Get Out

I just finished watching this film, and it's super late now so I'm too tired to talk coherently about it but uhhh wow. I found this film to be incredible; it managed to get under my skin in a way horror films never do for me generally. The first half of the film nailed it so well and was so relatable that it made me genuinely anxious and uncomfortable. Also, I (a black guy) watched it in the cinema with my wife (a white lady), which was... an interesting context in which to see this particular movie! I might come come back to this thread with more thoughts once I've had some sleep.
  4. [DevLog] NEON Shell

  5. That Poirot segment is probably one of my favourite podcast moments in recent memory.
  6. I really hope the tradition of great episode descriptions carries over to the new show.
  7. Excited to listen to this on my ride home today!
  8. @Jakehas been really been knocking it out of the park with these podcast logos. Also, I'm excited about the show. šŸ‘
  9. Switching Careers

Whoa! Exciting! I made a very similar life decision about a year ago, so I'm familiar with the boat you're in right now. If you ever need any specific advice, you know where to find me. So tell me about what kind of games you want to make? Are you going solo, or collabing with other developers? Is the ultimate aim to get hired somewhere or are you just seeing where the wild ride takes you?
  10. I made a game! Last October! And... I kind of forgot to talk about it at the time! A few months ago, I found myself in a situation where I had some time to kill. I had just accepted a new job, but I wasn't due to start for three weeks. I thought it'd be a fun task to make a game in that time, so here we have CHECKMATES. CHECKMATES is a chess game designed to be played via Twitch.tv. The game is hosted by a streamer, and played by the stream audience. Each player joins one of two teams and, on their team's turn, casts votes on their next move. The most popular vote at the end of a timer is taken as the played move. If you want to host your own games, you can download it here: https://zerofiftyone.itch.io/checkmates -------------------------------------------------------------- I'm going to try and set up a stream over on www.twitch.tv/playCHECKMATES at some point this week. I'll announce the date and time of the stream as soon as I know when I'll be free.
  11. [DevLog] Monumental Failure

Congrats on releasing the game @Spenny .
  12. UPDATE: This game is done and you can play it here: https://zerofiftyone.itch.io/hypersonic --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here we go again. For Wizard Jam 4, I'm going to be making The Hypersonic Effect. For day one, I picked out a title and, while figuring out what type of game it would be, made a menu for it. I still have no idea what the game will be, but It'll probably end up looking like this. I'm going to spend the next day or so figuring what the game will be and hopefully come up with something that I like that is also not overscoped. I have less time for this jam than I had last time, so I'm going to have to be conscious of that.
  13. Wizard Jam 4 Feedback

Quick reminder to anyone with a late submission: contact me by PM if you want your game to be added to the jam list .
  14. [RELEASE] The Clone Progenitors

Send me a PM with your game's itch.io page url in it, and I can get it added to the jam page as a late submission
  15. [RELEASE] The Hypersonic Effect

Thanks! Thanks so much for the kind words! I've wanted to make a game with this aesthetic for a little while now, so going in I had a long list of audio/visual elements I thought would be cool to try out. The most fun was putting together the music system that dynamically degrades the track as it's playing based on events in the game (and occasionally randomness). Super happy with how all of that stuff turned out, so I'm glad you liked it . Also, don't feel bad about level 12; you got very close to the end! There weren't all that many levels in this one. One of the things that I didn't budget a lot of time for was building levels. I made most of them on the last weekend of the jam, because they were dependant on systems being already in place. I have more ideas for levels that I didn't get time for, so maybe I'll add a few more during the week.
  16. [RELEASE] The Hypersonic Effect

The game is (pretty much) done! You can play it here: https://zerofiftyone.itch.io/hypersonic I still have a few more levels I want to put in, but other than that it's pretty much feature complete and I'm overall happy with it .
  17. Those are some good looking characters
  18. [WIP] [Released] Robot's Lips

Otherwise, if you miss the deadline, send me a PM and I can sort out a late submission for you.
  19. [RELEASE] The Hypersonic Effect

Oh yeah, another thing that's been slowly coming together is the music. I actually got the bulk of this done pretty early on in the jam, but I'm only now getting around to splitting the track into segments so that I can take them into the engine and transition between them in-game. Should also be able to add some nice tape degradation effects (if time allows).
  20. [RELEASE] Baboo!

Classic Ben X move, swooping in at the last moment to join the jam . Looking forward to whatever this turns into.
  21. [RELEASE] The Hypersonic Effect

Haha, of course. I have an oddly specific reputation to maintain. Thanks! It's been a weird experience making this game and tapping into an aesthetic that I only experienced for a relatively short while. I was born in 1991, so I'm old enough to have experienced the VHS era for the early part of my childhood, but not old enough to have been steeped in it for years and years.
  22. [RELEASE] The Hypersonic Effect

Update time! (for real this time) I haven't had much chance to work on the game this week; it's been a case of grabbing a spare hour or so each night and doing what I can. I do have a free weekend now though so hopefully I can power through most of the stuff I had originally planned. It's been slow progress but I'm finally at the point where I have enough systems and game logic built to start putting together some actual levels. I guess I haven't explained how the game works yet! In summary, you're essentially trying to escape the galaxy in a tiny unarmed spaceship. The objective is to collect all of the energy tanks in a level to charge up your hypersonic driveā„¢ and blast off to the next level. You get points for clearing each level, and bonus points for collecting orbs; getting through levels without taking damage; and using as few boosts as possible to complete levels. When you hit an obstacle you lose health, but you regain all your health at the start of each level. I also decided it'd be fun to have bonus stages in the game. The objective here is to collect all of the orbs before the timer runs out.
  23. [Released] Explode Mode (Slight Return)

I also learned this very recently! Really underestimated how complicated it would be and it took me hours to figure out. Also, this game is looking very good. Excited to see what this turns into.
  24. [RELEASE] The Hypersonic Effect

Very quick update: i did some mindless polish instead of getting actual useful stuff done, so now the loading/pause screens have a little VHS timestamp on them. The time and date is accurate to the system clock, apart from the year, which is always 1988.
