  1. Be strict about harassment policies and community guidelines. I have a strong suspicion that you can expect to gradually start seeing all the problems of a dating app and Xbox Live combined when it comes to female users.

  2. EDIT: I like Terminator 2 a lot.

As time wears on, I've grown to realize how much Terminator 2 paints the Terminator T-800 as the most laughably ineffective assassin in fiction. It's ostensibly meant to blend into crowds and infiltrate human settlements, but T2 establishes that all the T-800s are modelled after the same extremely conspicuous 6'2" super buff Austrian dude and lack the ability to detect social cues or imitate basic human activity like smiling, and cements the idea that they indiscriminately kill people other than their targets, eliminating the whole point of a stealth model in the first place.

  3. When I worked at Blockbuster as a teenager and could just instantly check the prices on anything I wanted, I would occasionally flip games to build up credit between there and EB Games. I think the best I ever did was some Hellboy game that cost ten dollars at Wal-Mart and was worth fourty in Blockbuster credit. The best I ever saw in the system was a surprisingly long period where 3D Dot Game Heroes was mistakenly tagged as being worth thirteen thousand dollars.

  4. Moore has commonality with Miller in that he didn't so much go downhill as it became increasingly apparent that he was maybe already at the bottom. That dude was always a crazy wizard. Remember how Watchmen just casually drops the idea that psychic powers are Totally A Real Thing?

  5. also, that crossover is amazing. Partially because I'm amazed Nintendo would even consider it. It's so common for Nintendo to let other companies include their mascots in their titles (like MH4U), but the other way round? I can't even think of one example!

I was on fire this morning. Won and got MVP several times in a row, including a match where I had a 9:1 KDR. Ninja Squid and the movement upgrades are my favourites.

  6. Actually, that's something that has bugged me in each of the Beastcast episodes so far -- in each one they get a fact wrong, asserting it as true, and never double-check. The most recent example was saying that MW3 was the CoD game with the dog, when in fact it was Ghosts. It's a little thing, but it's happened in each episode so far and each time it has bugged me.

Then you'll love the ending segment for this episode!

  7. I read Seconds the other day, by Bryan Lee O'Malley. I personally liked Scott Pilgrim but felt like I outgrew it as I got older, and Seconds really feels like a much more mature and cohesive work overall, to the point that I actually kind of resented the few small nods to Scott Pilgrim in there. Seconds perfectly captures this sort of frustrating "successful but not successful, happy but not happy" period after the indestructibility of being a teenager or early twenty-something wears off. It's from a much darker place, too. The book cost O'Malley his marriage, he lost the use of his drawing hand for several months, and he worked sixteen-hour days for most of the book's four-year development; and all of that pain ends up showing. Really great stuff.

  8. I like Chris' story about BIG WARS.

I feel like the earliest example of that kind of silly attributes acronym is probably from DC's Captain Marvel, created in 1939, who shouts the name of the wizard Shazam to gain the wisdom of Solomon, strength of Hercules, stamina of Atlas, power of Zeus, courage of Achilles, and speed of Mercury. It`s dumb as fuck and I love it.

  9. Fun trivia: Nintendo will almost certainly never partner with Lego. Lego famously took legal action against them for a Lego knockoff they produced back when they were a toy company*, and they recently got pretty involved with K'Nex.

*Not like now. Now the toys have NFC tags.

  10. Regarding Chris briefly mentioning that his phone number was only one away from the horse track: the annual tradition of NORAD tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve started in 1955 when a Sears department store released a flyer with a phone number where children could call Santa on Christmas Eve. The phone number was misprinted, and the resultant number was the top-secret military phone line for the Colorado Springs Continental Air Defense Command Center.

  11. So I've been collecting all the Sunken Scrolls in single-player, which give you tiny pieces of flavour text and artwork that serve to contextualize the setting, and holy shit.

Splatoon takes place in a postapocalyptic hellscape.

    A follow-up:

Judd, the stupid referee cat from the results screen, is the last terrestrial mammal on earth and was cryogenically frozen for 10,000 years.

What the fuck is this game?

    Oh, also:

    THE RIDICULOUS CONTROLLER IS CANON

  12. I feel like the 2010 Konami conference is the turning point where companies learned to start putting their own employees in the audience so they could be guaranteed some applause.

    Remember this?

  13. I'm not sure you can even buy the triple-pack in Europe so the only way to obtain the squid was to preorder the special edition of the game which came with it (and not the other two). It's a pretty dirty trick, I hope they don't go further down this route given that it unlocks a bit more content than a lot of the others did.

Chibi-Robo is exclusive to a bundle here in NA.

Nintendo's handling of the whole amiibo situation is really frustrating.
