Idle Thumbs 167: And That's Why Skeletons Fart That Way

I remember trying to save up $70 to get Pokémon Stadium 2 out of the Sears catalogue. I think I only managed to raise $45 or so and my mom ended up covering the rest. -

I love that the Thumbs can have basically the same conversation about Alan Wake that I would have about this guy: -

I'm not finished the podcast yet, but I have a question for Danielle! Did you ever play Muramasa for the Wii or the remake for the Vita? It's a game from the Dragon's Crown team that mixes combat akin to Smash Bros. or a brawler with some light platforming and RPG elements. It's really good and George Kamitani's art is way more restrained than it was in Dragon's Crown. It's a lot closer to the look Dragon's Crown had back when it was meant to be a Dreamcast game. -
Kate Leth started a podcast! It's called Less Than Live With Kate Leth! It's pretty good?? Someone needs to tell her that her theme tune is nearly identical to the though.

Holy crap, Donkey Kong Country Returns is terrible. Like, both as a game on its own and as a port (I can't decide if my favourite exciting new feature is either the sound being at about half the volume of every other 3DS game, or d-pad/circle pad being a menu toggle rather than just responding to whichever input I'm actually pushing like every other game that lets you choose a d-pad or analog input). The whole thing is a floaty, frictionless mess with too many fucking collectibles. Really wish I'd gotten Game & Wario or something instead.

I know I'm not in this, but you should totally pick something campy.

Idle Thumbs 166: Cyberpunk Cop-Killer

If you've never seen Citizen Kane, you're missing like 90% of this whole scene. It's probably my favourite of The Simpsons' many, many Kane references. -
I thought the Thumbs should see this Mario Kart 8 glitch video, because it features both Luigi and the majesty of space. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S4ZhmanOeM

Nintendo Donkey Bag it comes with Donkey Cock Country or Donkey Balls
-
I got DKCR3D. I probably shouldn't have, because it turns out I still hate Donkey Kong!
-
Oh man, this year's Club Nintendo Platinum/Gold rewards are games rather than physical goods. I have no idea which one I want. Probably Donkey Kong?

you could shave "THUMBS" into the back of your head

I just watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes because I've been interested in the new one, and it's surprisingly excellent. I always thought it was supposed to be lousy for some reason; maybe because of James Franco. There's only a few small things that bugged me: -CEO guy totally identifies Caesar as the apes' leader in the big ending sequence. Come on, man. Your brain doesn't even keep the ability to distinguish between individuals in non-human primate species for more than a few months after birth unless you train it; there's no chance you would be able to pick out one in a crowd from thirty feet away. -minor nitpick, but apes can't use spears. One of the key reasons humans have been so successful as a species is because the ability to throw objects both for distance and accurately is completely unique to us. And that's not just a brain thing, it's also got to do with vision and anatomy. Apes just wouldn't be able to cut it. -Love Interest has absolutely no role in the story. Literally the only purpose she serves is to have someone that James Franco can deliver exposition to. I'm not entirely sure if she's ever even named.

Another thing: I have totally had Canadian phone/cable/internet provider reps come to my house and insist on knowing why I didn't "want to pay less" or whatever, like even pushier Jehovah's witnesses. Ugh.

So far, I'm really digging these videos Weird Al's been releasing in advance of Mandatory Fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsWo8apgLys

Also, given how courts have traditionally handled rape accusations, I think it's pretty fair for someone to want to make a stand and demand change.

I really like the design of lady Thor. Between her and Batgirl, I almost want to read upcoming superhero comics? This is a new experience for me. Also, this got announced: I mean, awesome. They're making a series out of one of the handful of good Tim Burton movies, and it's being written by Kate Leth, and it's "Nancy Drew-esque teen girl mysteries;" but why now? Why bring Edward Scissorhands back after 24 years of complete inactivity? ...Unless it starts next year and this is a 25th anniversary thing and of course that's what it is and I'm just an idiot.
-
I'm dumb and don't have anything of value to contribute, but I just realized today that I don't think I can watch this classic Simpsons episode anymore without cringing about how relevant it is to modern rape culture.

Oh, what? I guess I'm buying one of these goddamn things now. Also, as long as we're talking about hooking it up to gym equipment, I wanna play a Pacific Rim game on the elliptical machine.

I thought of Wanted, personally.

Yeah, nobody quote that in case I decide to edit it later.

I am probably not supposed to talk about this, but at my old call center job, I was briefly transferred to a team whose duty was to outright lie to customers about when they would be getting phones replaced through a certain Canadian service provider's extended warranty program after they lost their fucking warehouse. They stopped sending out phones, modems, etc to customers who had ordered them; or at best sent them an empty box; and didn't tell their actual staff any of this (and instead lead them to believe it was our call center's fault) until the stores themselves stopped receiving stock. What I'm getting at is, phone and internet providers are scum.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
tegan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Seriously. Flappy Bird didn't gain any momentum at all until PewDiePie put out a video where he explicitly called it terrible, and look where that ended up.
