  1. I IV trained and subsequently evolved it last night. Then this morning I caught this little lady, to be IV trained and evolved at a later date. Since then I've been absentmindedly trawling a Fairy-type Friend Safari for the entire day looking for a shiny Kirlia. It took like half an hour to get that Lampent! Geez! In the meantime, here's a pair of nice ones I evolved a few days ago: ...
  2. Manga Thread of Reading Comics Backwards

Normally I'm pretty critical of that sort of thing, but I tend to cut Tezuka some slack (probably more than he'd earned) because he took some of the first bumbling steps into things like comics for girls and comics that explored sexuality. Fuck MW though.
  3. Manga Thread of Reading Comics Backwards

I posted this in the comics thread instead of this one because I'm an idiot. If they actually pull it off, this is huuuuge. Tezuka wrote a lot of material.
  4. The Fanart Collective

EDIT: This one is so clever/dumb that I laugh every time.
  5. I've gotten veeeerrrrry good at catching Shinies, apparently. Should I just make a thread for this? Because I think that my logical goal now that I've got every Pokémon is to get them all again, in their stupid pallet-swapped forms.
  6. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Gigi D.G. answered some questions about Cucumber Quest (which you really should be reading, you know), and I'm super happy about this one: I mean, I thought it was obvious, but yay!
  7. Dragon's Crown isn't so much like football as it is oil wrestling.
  8. it would be kind of silly for a new game to just show up with no previous advertisement or announcement whatsoever, especially a beloved tentpole franchise..
  9. Ditto don't pass their Poké Balls down, and only the mother's Poké Ball can be inherited. There was no legit way to get that Aegislash in that ball.
  10. The capital S in "MicroSoft" is weirding me out. I feel like it was at one point a dollar sign, or at least read "MicroShaft."
  11. Life

I'm in the same boat here. The heat's not as bad as it was at the beginning of the month, but there's been a lot of days where the humidity hovers around 95%. Last night I fell asleep at something like 2:00 or 3:00 and I woke up at around 5:30
  12. So how long until one of the big three prominently advertises that a Kickstarter game will be coming to their platform only for it to never materialize?
  13. ...I thought this was funnier than I care to admit.
  14. So Nintendo streamed the Pokémon National Championships on Twitch a few weeks back. It was well-intentioned but poorly-executed, which I'd still consider a step in the right direction. What made the whole experience really souring, to me, is that the returning champion Ray Rizzo is at one point seen blatantly cheating and Nintendo has yet to issue any sort of statement about it. Even if his claims that it was purely an aesthetic hack and that he had no knowledge of it are true, it's still a flagrant violation of the tourney rules.
  15. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I like the inexplicable Patton Oswalt cameo.
  16. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

So I guess just yesterday Nintendo and Koei Tecmo announced a new Fatal Frame game for Wii U release in Japan this September, and it plays exactly the way you think it does. Rad.
  17. Idle Thumbs Criterion Film Club?

In terms of sheer terror, I would rank Hausu somewhere just below this:
  18. Spelunker is an iconic and beloved staple of the kusoge ("shitty game") genre in Japan, which is really fascinating to read about.
  19. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Oh man, I guess Digital Manga Publishing is getting the entire library of Osamu Tezuka digitally published in English. On the one hand, that's incredible and I'll be buying an e-reader as soon as they start becoming available. On the other, that's an enormous job and DMP is a pretty small team. I'll admit I'm kind of skeptical.
  20. I've been keeping tabs on this Kickstarter for Osamu Tezuka's "The Crater" from last year, which still has yet to provide any evidence that the book actually exists. There's a surprising number of people running to defend the project creator in the comments sections, despite their repeated promises and subsequent failures to provide any sort of informative update on the project status. It's a fascinating sort of Stockholm Syndrome deal. I'm really glad I didn't contribute to that Kickstarter like I wanted to, but it's pretty lousy that this likely means the rights to the book are tied to a company that will likely never release it.
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

It's kind of hard to watch the 1933 version of King Kong now; not because of the effects, but because of how explicitly racist and sexist it is. Eesh.
  22. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

My favourite thing about "Word Crimes" is that it's consistent with Weird Al's previously-established views on grammar.
  23. When the discussion of the guy playing Street Fighter with a PS1 controller came up, I somehow missed the first few seconds and wondered what this hilarious Stradivarius of controllers would be. I was imagining something with a lacquered wood finish or something equally ridiculous. Also, this conversation was a great example of why I love Idle Thumbs, becase everyone immediately jumped to/ran with the conclusion that the guy goes by "Luffy" because he was some weird Eastern Bloc Art Haus guy and not that he just took the name of the stretchy guy from One Piece.
  24. Earthbound! Earthbound Earthbound Earthbound! Also, Super Metroid and Mega Man 2.
