UPDATE AGAIN: So a Bell Aliant rep just showed up at my door; polling the building for FibreOP installation. I guess that the rep I had talked to on the phone didn't know his shit, because he wasn't supposed to be able to offer me the bundle he did, plus it wouldn't have counted toward the percentage of the building needed to get FibreOP installed anyway. I really hope we get it here, but right now they've only got 23% of the building pre-registered and they need 40%. The good news is, even if we don't get FibreOP here I'll still be getting the same price that I was offered before, so I'll effectively be getting about $15 a month cut from my bill, plus free TV service. That's not so bad.

I haven't been reading this thread, but I would like to mention a thing. Back when Microsoft unveiled the first redesign of the Xbox 360, the audience (which was mostly press people) received free 360s to take home. Jeremy Parish happened to receive one, and immediately gave it away because he wasn't comfortable with the idea of being given a gift by a console manufacturer. That's probably the exact moment where my respect and trust of that guy completely solidified.

UPDATE: I did my research online and then called and asked a billion questions. I found out that I'll actually be paying less for a FibreOP/home phone/basic TV package than what I currently pay for my standalone home phone and DSL services. I pressed for every possible extra fee and loophole that I could think of, but it seems pretty cut and dry. I just have to remember to return my old equipment so I don't get charged for it. Hooray for me! ...Now I just need to hope that 40% of my building takes it so that it'll come here.

I love Kaoru Mori's artwork. Her ability to draw immaculately detailed patterned fabric is an inspiration. Also she draws a lot of lady butts.

Oh man, they finally officially announced it! Weird that it's an arcade exclusive. Lately I'm becoming worried that Game Freak might be jumping ship on Nintendo, between the (admittedly kind of terrible) online version of the TCG coming to iOS and the fact that Pokémon's backwards-compatability is now all run server-side and runs independently of hardware. It looks like Pokkén will live up to my earlier prediction of being nothing but Fighting-types. If there's a Wii U version and Heracross is in it, I might have to give it a shot even though I suck at fighting games.

The whole "this anti-LGBT bigot is probably a closet case themselves" thing pisses me off, because it's a pretty insidious and dangerous stereotype that places the blame for homophobia on gay people themselves. It's true that every so often a famously anti-gay politician or other person in a position of power ends up being outed (and it just makes me hate them more every time), but the self-loathing of a few individuals does not change the fact that homophobia is and always has been overwhelmingly a product of straight people. Treating it as an issue of "this problem doesn't concern me because it's an issue of queer people oppressing other queer people," even as a joke, is a pretty dangerous (and itself kind of homophobic) way to remove yourself from the issue and place onus on queer people to fix a problem that isn't their responsibility to fix. For a perfect example of what I mean, look at the ways that a lot of otherwise fairly progressive media like The Daily Show treat their coverage of Russia's anti-LGBT laws by insisting that a shirtless photo of Vladmir Putin riding a horse makes him gay. Putin's probably not gay, he's just an asshole. (I realize I'm conflating attraction to transgender people with necessarily being LGBTQ when the two aren't necessarily the same thing, but I'm drawing my interpretation from the context here)
