My one problem playing Saints Row with Xbox + mouse was that the onscreen button prompts would change depending on whether I had last used the mouse or the controller. Ideally I'd want something that always displayed the right prompts.

I wish there were more mainstream press covering this, because of what Sean said on the podcast about "what if that ended up on CNN?" and the like. Everyone who I've been telling about this situation who is less tuned in and more removed from games was absolutely baffled by all of it. Unfortunately I think mainstream press used up all of their credibility to cover this stuff way back when FOX news was showing video clips of exploding vans and talking about 4chan. It kind of reminds me of Fredric Wertham's Seduction of the Innocent. Most comic fans like myself only remember Wertham for the ridiculous claims he made to demonize comics, like that Batman was turning kids gay; which is really unfortunate, because almost everything else the guy did is really important (like being pivotal in tearing down the institution of racially segregated schools), including some of the completely valid criticisms he leveled at comics that now can't be taken seriously by association (eg: comics were incredibly racist at the time, comics still give girls unrealistic body images, and comics tend to teach that strength is power and that the only solution to a problem is through violence).

Did you get any weird mouse acceleration stuff? Like, is your PC registering the Nav controller as actual analog input and the mouse as a second analog stick? Or the Nav controller as digital keyboard inputs? Or some other weird thing like that?

oh man what if you can look around using the gyroscope like some kind of half-baked Oculus Rift what if turning on the Super Nintendo booted up a Virtual Console game

So I was just thinking a little while ago: you know the dumb assumption that because "not-games" are a thing it means that "real games" are threatened? Well, does that mean that the people who think that think if they got their way, the people making "not-games" would make "real games" instead? "David Cage should go back to making REAL games like he used to. Where's my Cheese Cat-Astrophe starring Speedy Gonzales 2?"

Hey, just a heads up, Vertical is polling interest in new license acquisitions. If there are any manga you're interested in seeing picked up that meet their criteria*, you should let them know. They do stellar work and publish a lot of niche titles for older audiences. *Criteria is as follows: 1) manga only, no novels or light novels 2) noting published by Shueisha, Shogakukan, Akita Shoten, or Gentosha (no Franken Fran ) 3) nothing that debuted prior to 2005 4) no series with more than ten volumes (more of a guideline. It's not impossible, but less likely that they'll pick it up) 5) no rescuing abandoned licenses

Serious talk: you should get legally married ASAP and leave the ceremony part until whenever you feel like it, just for the purposes of taxation and medical visiting rights and other such legal stuff.
-
Get a bigass cake. I want to get married someday, but I have no idea what kind of ceremony I should have. I'm an athiest, a lesbian, and effectively an orphan; so there's not really any reason for me to follow the usual procedure around these things. Fun story: I knew this girl in high school who was obsessive about weddings and loved the really weird Vegas-type ones where everybody dresses up as Star Wars characters or whatever, but was a super religious homophobe and wanted to "preserve the sanctity of marriage" against gay people. Whee!

Leaf insect! They always make wobbly dancing motions like this when they move so that you'll think they're just a leaf blowing in the wind. They do it if you blow on them, too.

I've only made one friend (a coworker) since moving here and I haven't talked to him in at least a year. The only friend I had who already lived here is perpetually busy. We've been trying to go see a movie together since something like May, and he won't be free until at least mid-September. ...is Guardians of the Galaxy still gonna be on by then?

It bugs me that now I'll have to buy a new microSD card and find a use for the SD card I'm currently using for my 3DS. At least memory prices are going down, but I don't know if I even have any use for a 32GB SD card now.

I guess I'm about a decade late with this, but... why do people dislike the Xbox 360 controller D-pad?
tegan replied to cowuponacow's topic in Video Gaming
Not trying to start anything here, but these are three of the worst implementations of some of the best d-pads. (teg's favourite d-pads: Wii U Gamepad, Wii U Pro Controller, PS Vita, Gameboy Micro) -
I don't think I agree with the exact wording used in that sentence, but it's definitely true that a lot of women get the impression that they have to prove themselves to an audience that's going to dismiss them. There are two Youtube personalities whose Pokémon videos I sometimes watch: TheJWittz (real name Josh Wittenkeller) and TamashiiHiroka (real name unknown). The two make almost identical content, usually top ten lists, trivia videos, and other such stuff that you're likely to see if you read any gaming websites. Often they'll even cover the exact same ground. Take a look at how each of presents themselves: This is actually one of the more ordinary-looking shots I've seen of Tamashii. Usually she's wearing a Pikachu hoodie and the camera is pulled back further to show even more gaming stuff behind her. Tamashii frames her videos in a way to show how much "nerd cred" she has, while Josh doesn't feel obligated to. And it's not because she's any less talented than Josh, it's because she has a large hate community for being both a woman and a feminist. Her channel has been around longer, she seems to have actual programming knowledge and insight into game design that Josh lacks, and in my opinion she brings exactly as much enthusiasm and technical skill to her videos as Josh; but she still has fewer views and a much larger anti-fandom (I can verify this personally from my own experiences on 4chan's Pokémon board, but it's not like it's hard to find creepy comments about her attached to her own videos). Lately she's started using a custom sprite of herself against backgrounds nearly identical to the ones Josh uses as a stand-in for the live footage of herself that she used to use, and I've always wondered if it was because she felt discouraged by this kind of stuff.

Hahaha nooooooooo. Ben Stein once made an anti-evolution documentary that included, among other highlights, a sequence in which a passage from Charles Darwin's "The Descent of Man" was read aloud with most of the text omitted to make it sound like the literal exact opposite of what Darwin intended, accompanied by footage of Nazi imagery. Ben Stein is an idiot scumbag and the reason I can't watch Ferris Bueller anymore.

I like the idea of a groom walk, but it is probably not a wise idea to use the opportunity to use your wedding to mimic someone who famously beat his wife to the point of hospitalization. Suggestion: , preferably to be paired with something involving a bare chest and a cape.

They can call them the New Super 3DS Bros.
-
AUGH I needed to get a new 3DS and was planning on getting a replacement in a few weeks, but I know I'll feel like a chump if I don't wait and get this instead. Also, I mostly like the design (hooray for reasonably-placed Start/Select buttons!) but putting the stylus in the bottom and the Power Button in the corner like that seem like terrible ideas. Considering that they're marketing it with a port of a fucking Wii game, I really hope it'll be able to do SNES/GBA.

So I'm working on something pretty cool.

I just want to say that I love that this happened by complete accident.

I get the impression that PAX is gonna be super hostile this year, both because of this and because PA set themselves up to implicitly okay this kind of thing at PAX through the whole Dickwolves fiasco a few years back.
-
I'm gonna make one and only one petty comment. Dude on the right looks like a fucking magician. EDIT:

Yeah, I'd left /co/ and /v/ before this. This is just the inevitable conclusion.

I'm actually thinking of taking a vacation from the internet for a few days, myself. I finally took 4chan off my New Tab Page today. I always kind of waffled on it, because I know the place is disgusting but I only ever visited the relatively nice places like /Shiny Hunt Weekend/ on the Pokémon board and then only sparingly, but I think I finally reached the point where I felt too embarrassed by association to stick around. So long, /shw/. Thanks for the Japanese Ditto.

If Anita revels in all the harassment she gets then gamers should really piss her off by being super nice and respectful to her. we hacked your bank account and DID YOUR TAXES FOR YOU The Vita's been super great for indies! Possibly because AAA publishers have all but abandoned it and they don't need to compete against them directly. There's so many cool little independent games and weirdass Japanese imports on that system. I really recommend it.
