just crank out a top ten list

I think some of the examples she pulled for her earliest videos were obscure/forgettable enough to diminish the impact of what she was saying (Grabbed by the Ghoulies?) and still feel that her earrings are visually distracting, but those are both production-related and not content-related. They're also arguably pretty petty of me.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
tegan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Anyone else here not really feeling the new Steam store? I don't know how much you know about 2D Platformers (I'm an expert) -
I like that they have a listing for the exact percentage of finished game. Does game development really work that way? Also, didn't they start development on this back in 2006? If it's only half-done now, does that mean it won't be released for another eight years?

Chris: did you go on the Haunted Mansion? I've never been to any of the Disney parks, but I want to go someday (maybe on Gay Day?) and the Haunted Mansion is priority one.

Don't forget the second Kickstarter, which was for something they were going to do anyway and had a project goal of five dollars (and raised five hundred thousand). Both PA Kickstarters have just been Penny Arcade exploiting a system meant for something completely different purposes because they know it will garner more press attention than a fundraiser would. -
I tried to order take-out. The guy never showed up after half an hour of waiting and when I went back upstairs I found angry messages on my phone saying that he was there when he clearly wasn't. I don't know whether he was at the wrong building or what, but to make a long story short I never got my food and I'm apparently banned now. Ugh. I feel terrible.

One thing that's really sinking in watching Young Justice is that since I'm somewhat familiar with the DC Universe, most of the big revelations are "oh, they're going with this version of the character." Like It's very familiar paint-by-numbers storytelling. It's not that it's bad (it's probably one of the better applications of these characters) or that I don't like it, it's just that I've seen it all before.

Got my cheque and paid off all my shit. I am MORE OR LESS DEBT-FREE with plenty to spare! Woooo! Still have a few financial things to sort out, but hopefully not much. After that I gotta get me a job.

Idle Thumbs 176: The Classic Alien Form
tegan replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I realize that this is likely a purely rhetorical question, but the Pirahã people of the Amazon fit the bill. They have a rudimentary sense of spirituality that drives them to make necklaces to serve what they perceive as a practical purpose, but otherwise seemingly neither produce nor understand any artistic expression of any kind. At the risk of being hella fuckin' racist, I've hypothesized for a while that their brains might be physiologically differently from ours, because they seem physically incapable of certain forms of abstract thought or imagination. They seem to be of extremely limited understanding of concepts like quantity, colour, tense, and gender. They have no religion, no agriculture, no history beyond immediate oral history, and no social or political hierarchy. They also don't apply skills that they've been taught that would be invaluable to them, like building canoes or preserving meat. Wittgenstein once said "if a lion could speak, we could not understand him," and this is exactly the sort of phenomena he was referring to. This shit is fascinating to me. -
I'm finally watching Young Justice. This show is pretty good! ...Sure does love the whole clone/real father/other familial trope plot twist though. I'm just starting season 2, post-timeskip.

Gizmodo's been rinking the IGN.com tapwater.

Also, I recently found the Deviantart account of someone who does nothing but photoshop boxing gloves onto swimsuit models/actresses/pornstars and make up fake boxing stats for them, entirely as their personal wank material. I'm not gonna post it here, but I feel it's very much in the partial spirit of this thread: fascinatingly weird things found on Deviantart.

That unruly mob towering over the multibillion dollar company is supposed to be, I shit you not, tumblr users who were disappointed by Nintendo's utterly tone-deaf first response to people being bummed about Tomodachi Life not having same-sex relationships a few months back.

Potato Salad makes me angry because people were mushc more willing to throw money at a joke than any of the actual valid causes that people start Kickstarters, IndieGogos etc. for. -

I feel like Kickstarter should probably could probably stand to be more selective about what projects they allow to go live instead of just okaying everything and policing them later. Though I guess that could lead to them closing down legitimate, viable projects. There's really no good way to do this, I guess. -
Oh my god, this is the worst gamer political cartoon I've seen since this:

By the way: I told Tiny Cartridge that they got mentioned on the cast. Seems like they really appreciate it. -
