  1. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

That's just a thing that happens now. Guillermo Del Toro, Sylvain Chomet, Jon Kricfalusi, and Banksy have all guest directed/animated couch gags in the last few years.
  2. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

My second pick for the most likely character to die turned out to be true: It looks like they're kind of backing away from the heavy promotion they did.
  3. Transistor

I liked Bastion artistically, but couldn't get into the gameplay. I really like the way Transistor looks, so I' mreally excited to see how it works. And hey, the music is being done by the same person as Bastion and that awesome voiceover guy is confirmed to still be doing a vocal performance.

  5. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

Hey guys, remember to tune in tonight for a double dose of hilarity with the season 26 premiere in which someone (probably Krusty) dies and the Family Guy crossover! AREN'T YOU EXCITED?!
  6. Ferguson

Ferguson police officer shot after confronting burglar. Thisi s just gonna keep getting worse before it gets better.
  7. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

"Bad game that inexplicably got good reviews at the time" is kind of Rare's entire modus operandi from the early nineties right up until Grabbed by the Ghoulies came around and the part about getting good reviews no longer applied.

  9. Feminism

This is precisely why The Shadow wore a cape, which is likely what lead to superheroes adopting the look. Also, don't forget: Batgirl isn't like Batman. She didn't spend her life training to be a crimefighter and didn't have a tech lab and billions of dollars available to her when she made her costume. She's just a college-aged woman who admires Batman and, to a certain extent, wants to emulate him. In the first appearance of the Barbara Gordon Batgirl, her outfit was meant for a costume ball.
  10. I appreciate the cast members making fun of the terms "Roguelite" and "Roguelike," because they've always been terrible descriptions for the genre. It's a completely meaningless term if you aren't familiar with the mechanics of a specific Unix game from 35 years ago.
  11. Steam Curation!

Nah, that just means TotalBiscuit gets to take you under his wing. EDIT: Steam is, to me, a chat client that also happens to have a button that lets me play Spelunky. It's very rare that I check the store, I never bother with badges or trading cards, and I've only ever spent something like thirty dollars total on games in nearly three years of Steam use.
  12. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

So I got these the other day: These are really, really nice editions of these movies. They're only like fifteen bucks each (I got them 2/$25 at HMV) and on top of being nicely cleaned up for an HD release, they also include some really fascinating special features. Frankenstein and Dracula both include entire alternate scores conducted by Philip Glass (since neither of those movies have musical scores to begin with); Dracula includes the Spanish version of the film that Universal made concurrently with the more popular English version, which features all the same sets and dialogue but an entirely different cast and camera techniques; The Invisible Man has a featurette about the production, effects, etc. Just really great additions all around. I'm really strongly considering going back to HMV next week and getting The Wolf Man and The Mummy. They also have The Creature From the Black Lagoon and The Phantom of the Opera (the 1943 version), but those two I could take or leave.
  13. Feminism

Okay so if I can bring up a stupid comic thing for a second... Until recently, Batgirl has looked, more or less, like this: Pretty much like every other superheroine; a tight, form-fitting bodystocking with sexy boots. Just recently, however, a new creative team took over the comic and gave Batgirl's outfit a much-needed overhaul.. Naturally a bunch of comic people have been really pissy about it, saying that it's, of all things, "impractical;" that it would be too difficult to move in a leather jacket and Doc Martens, as compared to spandex and stiletto heels. As the best possible "fuck you" to these criticisms, a variant cover for Batgirl #37 will have her in an outfit that better fits their criteria.
  14. This is definitely a really big deal for me. Beloved eighties children's movies had some fucking weird, gross shit in them. See also: The Goonies, Monster Squad. I don't even try to think about the time travel in BTTF anymore, because then you have to think about stuff like the fact that there's logically another Marty running around somewhere at the end of the first and third movies that our Marty is a changeling for, or why in the third movie Doc Brown never decides to just use the perfectly functioning DeLorean he's stashed away after Marty arrives and his DeLorean gets wrecked.
  15. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

It must be comforting to all those gaters that their winning entrant for "worst company in the world" two years running is on their side.
  16. Life

There's a hipster bar here called The Laundromat, which used to be an actual laundromat, just a block or two down the street from another laundromat also called The Laundromat. There has been so much needless confusion.
  17. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Through the Woods is so damn good.
  18. Not quite the same, but one of my college professors was super big into making us study The Dinner Party, which I fucking hate because it's kind of racist (there's only a single representation of a non-white woman and it's noticeably different from the others); conflates the female experience with genitalia, which just pisses me off; and is generally just kind of trite and tacky, in my opinion.

  20. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I'm pretty sure Nintendo's just covering their ass with regards to the external HDD thing. I've yet to see anyone complain about a drive not working. I'd still get an externally-powered drive myself, though.
  21. So here's a rad Kickstarter campaign for a pilot of an animated series called Urbance, about a city where sex is prohibited due to a genetic virus, forcing men and women against each other. Potentially interesting, potentially dumb, but suuuuuper stylish.
  22. Ello.co

Do they still not own ello.gov? Because that needs to happen at all costs, clearly.
