Masahiro Sakurai really, really likes Kid Icarus.

Thank you! This was bugging me for the whole episode because I was familiar with the word but also couldn't think of it.

Cucumber Quest continues to make me super happy about the way it handles representation.

"Claws" is a much better pun than "Paws."

The premise of that show was the most contrived thing ever. Rubik had superpowers that only worked so long as he was unscrambled, but being even slightly jostled would scramble him again and it was up to those kids' weirdly specific ability to unscramble Rubik's cubes really fast to save the day.

For anyone who doesn't follow Patrick Klepek's Tumblr, this morning he posted a bunch of snippets from a 1980 Siskel and Ebert special about (now hilariously tame) slasher movies that wouldn't be out of place in one of Anita's videos. The notion gaters have that feminist criticism is a new thing or that it applies exclusively to video games is pretty baffling to begin with, but this is downright sobering. Entire thing here:

Yes. Maybe I'm just a horrible shipper, but I'm definitely not the only one who sees it.

I think I've resigned to accepting that the Wii U version is not going to be a "Holiday 2014" game. I mean, "Holiday 2014" is like six weeks away and there's still no indication of a release date.

I appreciate that Mystery Inc seems to have really tried to do a same-sex relationship in what is still ostensibly a children's cartoon, even if they couldn't really do much outside of hinting it was there.

Has anyone here been watching Steven Universe? I mean, if not, you should, because it's been consistently excellent and I wanna discuss spoilers for Mirror Gem/Ocean Gem:

So I have TV service now because it was mandatory as part of the fibreop package and I've been checking it out now and then as sort of a novelty. ...What the hell is with TV? I haven't watched TV since 2008 and I feel so out of the loop. There's commercials everywhere and they're all super surreal and repeat five times within half an hour, all of the educational channels are filled with shows where people buy garbage and then sell it again, and I've completely forgotten what it's like to not know when anything is on. It's so weird. I'm almost exclusively watching Teletoon Retro on the increasingly rare occasion that I turn it on, and expect that to remain the case until I get bored in a week. EDIT: oh, and all these shows have been cropped and stretched to fit a 16:9 display on top of being compressed for air, so everything that's not an HD channel looks terrible.

I have the lone English collection of it. It's superb.

Windows 98. It was classic then and it's classic now. -

I'm secretly pleased that this thread is back on track, because this is seriously the proudest I've ever been of a thread title. -

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

I seriously can't believe there's shit like an Angry Birds TV show and comic series. That is the weakest possible premise and set of characters you could base a variety of stories on. -
Maybe I'm being harsh, but I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to say that Pixar's quality has noticeably dropped off since Toy Story 3, even if that's lowering the bar from "consistently exceptional" to "above average." Drifting into doing mostly sequels (Monsters U, Cars 2, Finding Dory, Incredibles 2, Cars 3) after years of doing mostly original movies doesn't help matters.
