The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
tegan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
ON A DIFFERENT TOPIC I feel like Nintendo basically confirmed what I've been saying forever with the newly-released Pokémon Shuffle: that if Nintendo were to move to mobile devices, you would get mobile games first and Nintendo games second. By all accounts, it's basically just Pokémon Trozei with some reprehensible microtransaction bullshit thrown in. It almost feels like a point-blank "fuck you" to the idiot investors who keep telling them to add microtransactions to make Mario jump just a little bit higher. -
Post-Dickwolves fiasco and especially right now, I've come to associate PAX with that other PAX:
-
Windjammer.

You have to accompany Makar and Medli through their respective temples. You can switch control to them or call them toward you, but they're otherwise objects to be escorted.

They're grumpy teenagers! The Sewaddle line is one of my favourite life cycles in Pokémon Sewaddle (cute little baby that gets cared for by its parent) becomes Swadloon (reclusive shut-in) when it gets a little older, then becomes Leavanny (strong, nurturing adult) only when it becomes truly happy. It's maybe the only good use of happiness-base evolution in the games.

Does anybody here own a Serger they'd be willing to sell me? I'd like to have one so I can make and sell things.

So... is Jake okay?

I beat Sakura Samurai! Yay!
-
I beat Cave Story after eleven years. That's something.

I'm mostly good about seeing/hearing Ryan in stuff, except in those rare instances where they accidentally foreshadow his death. There's a Bombcast where Jeff talks about switching from his old family doctor to Ryan's doctor where he jokingly justifies his decision by saying "well, Ryan's not dead yet, so..."

I'd like to move to Halifax or something, but I don't think I can afford it. I actually moved here to find work, of all things.

I imagine all of them realized what he was doing immediately and they just want to see who blinks first.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

Square Enix has officially crawled up their own ass. The sheer audacity of this thing is staggering. Basically they've set up a program where you pitch, crowdfund, and create a game like you normally would these days; except SE takes a 20% cut in exchange for distribution and the privilege of being able to use the coveted Gex IP. -
I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm almost out of money and I need a job, but there's nothing here. I'm not bilingual, I'm not strong enough for manual labour jobs, I'm not experienced outside of retail, and not having a car leaves me stuck looking for openings in the central part of the city. Every job I look at is either something I'm unqualified for or something that would make me want to kill myself again. I know I have useful skills, but nobody wants them. I'm running out of time and options and I don't think I'm going to make it.

Dan's character is Ric Flair. He's just seeing how long he can keep it up before one of the others realizes it.

Hey, I drew that reindeer... OnO

So I've decided to try clearing my backlog this year. I beat Xeodrifter the other day and just now beat Cave Story (after eleven years...). Woooo.

Two weird things I remember about Willy Wonka: 1) Gene Wilder was the one who suggested that Wonka first appear barely mobile with a cane and then suddenly do a somersault. The idea was that the audience would never know if he was lying or not after that. 2) "The snozberries taste like snozzberries" is a reference to Dahl's earlier adult book "My Uncle Oswald," where "snozzberry" is used as a slang term for "penis."

It took me like thirty seconds to realize that was Majora's Mask and not some scene from Rebuild of Evangelion that I had somehow forgotten. So who else loved Eye of the Ryckert?

The most recent iteration, Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated, had him as the only real-world guest star. In his first appearance, he's a rival-turned-comrade to an HP Lovecraft stand-in. In the series finale: It's a really, really good series; even if you're not much of a Scooby-Doo person.
-
Also, the best Scooby-Doo guest star is clearly Harlan goddamn Ellison.

Willy Wonka is a fucked up guy.
