It's become increasingly weird to me that games used to advertise how addictive they were (and then stopped right around the time that they became legitimately addictive enough to ruin peoples' lives, ala WoW or mobile games).

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
tegan replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Yup, owned by Nintendo and produced by Creatures. It makes money hand over fist, has terrible power creep, and has a barely-functional free-to-play digital version on PC and iOS that has some nice integration with the actual cards. -
The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

But they put it in their own game already. Project NX is an odd announcement. I suspect it'll either be Nintendo trying to achieve parity with the PS4 and Xbox One (which is, I feel, risky but ultimately necessary) or, less likely, a smartphone with buttons. -
Reposting from the episode thread: I can legalize pot and watch people tweet about Richard Garriot. GOTY.cx

please rename thread to "legoldblum" thanks

This is apparently not a Photoshop, but an actual question on the Wal-Mart job application form.

I love how the Lego and Jurassic World logos are exactly the same size. That feels very corporate-mandated.

Follow my lead of renting apartments until you get one where the previous tenant couldn't be bothered to get their couch down three flights of stairs and just left it behind.

There's a lot of Aventure Time that's absolutely worth getting into, I just feel like it's important to know when to stop.

We're into season 2 now, and the next episode's description is "Steven and Connie go into Rose's Room to recreate a book series ending." Maybe they'll get into it. (I was thinking the same thing, incidentally)

Adventure Time is like one of those webcomics that flourished in the early noughties that started out as zany adventures and then moved into drama, but didn't actually know how to tell dramatic stories. A lot of episodes feel like clumsy parables that don't go anywhere or reveals with no significance. I personally consider Jake having kids to be the worst decision the show ever made. Jake can't just avoid his kids forever or he'll look like a terrible person, but any time they show up they just weigh everything down. They're trying to play it like there are big questions left unanswered and stories left unfulfilled with the way they're playing around with episodes like Evergreen and Dark Purple, but I dunno. It's all gotten very meandering and dull to me.

I'm not fond of the Dresden Codak guy or his "I'm going to fix all these characters" attitude at all, but he did a fan redesign for Wonder Woman that I did quite like. In canon, Diana was sculpted from clay by the amazons and imbued with the power of the gods. I really like the idea of a very literal take on that, even if the rest of the look is basically stuff she already wears with a toga on it and a sword that she doesn't need.

I've been thinking about it actually. I'd like to use Patreon to fund ongoing comics, but I dunno if I'd make any money and I'm not sure what kind of risks Patreon involves. Also, in case anyone missed it in the Life thread, I think I found a job in Halifax! All I need is to nail down a place to live and come up with the funds to move and make my first payments on it (deposit and rent).

See, that's the kind of shit I'm talking about when I say questionable charities. Zoos get us valuable research, provide a safe environment to breed and raise members of endangered species, and help raise public interest in zoology; and most of the animals that wind up in zoos are rescued from the exotic pet trade, circuses, or poaching operations, not captured in the wild. It's the same reason I get angry when vegans say that eating honey is cruel when honey production is both a) not at all harmful to bees and reason number one that we as a species haven't wiped them out yet. I get it, zoos are a compromised solution and there are likely better ones that are either too expensive (zoo budgets are already notoriously low since they draw most of their funding from public interest, which bullshit like this actually hurts) or just things that we haven't thought of yet. But thinking that it's less cruel to release unprepared animals used to the safety and regular feeding of a zoo into the wild to either die of starvation or get eaten is a childish, idiotic belief. (to make it clear: I am one hundred percent okay with rescuing animals from circuses [which Simon also did] or zoos that abuse or neglect their animals, but the concept of zoos is a valuable one and I hate it when PETA assholes think they're doing a good thing by shutting them down)

I can't un-hear it now. This episode made me really, really wanna play Cities Skylines. Or at least learn how to play the copy of Sim City 2000 that I have installed on here.

Wonder Woman gets redesigned pretty frequently and it never sticks for long. Remember the uproar surrounding the 2010 redesign?

I've started going back listening to the episodes upon episodes of post-Kickstarter Retronauts that I never got around to listening to. They're pretty good!
