Candy Kong's appearance is completely unjustifiable.

Oh, by the way, the final version of AMV Hell 6 is out. It's significantly better than the version I posted a while back. Torrent links and such.

I got it, but I can't watch it. It's nearly nine gigs thanks to being a 1080p MKV with FLAC audio. My PC's not beefy enough to run that, and Windows flat-out won't let me copy it to a flash drive so I can run it on my HD box. I've never seen it outright refuse to copy something like that before. I don't know why, it's a 16GB drive.

I remember Jenn Frank walking about the extended Donkey Kong family on Retronauts once, and comparing them to the episodes of Scooby-Doo where they hung out with Scooby-Dum or Scooby-Dee or whatever. A truer comparison has never been made. Crazy theory time: You know how all Yoshis look exactly the same and all Toads look exactly the same? What if, in Mario World, all humans look exactly the same? If you're a dude; you will inevitably get a crazy moustache, overalls and a dumb hat. If you're a lady, you get the same build as Peach.

Virtual Console is live, you guys! I'm excited to see whet gets added in the coming weeks.

Yoshi and modern Donkey Kong are both horrible characters and I feel solidarity in knowing that I am not the only one who hates them. The Mario series' character designs in general are really weird, often because they originate from a time when pallet swaps were a thing. It would be sacrilege to introduce a character like Luigi or Princess Daisy in any other medium. The weirdest for me is Baby Bowser and Bowser Jr., who are two distinct characters who just happen to look and sound identical to one another outside of the design on a single article of clothing. As for sound, Toad shrieking every line of his dialogue is the funniest goddamned thing to me and I hope they never give him a "real" voice.

Idle Thumbs 103: A Person-Shaped Thing is a Person

I haven't seen the "different" ad for the Wii U yet, but I love the latest Japanese ad. It's a professional singer singing the Evangelion theme as part of a karaoke game. It would be legitimately cute advertising if they didn't leave in the shots of the TV showing showing that her professional-grade performance is actually making her lose. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0NNte7C8ac&feature=youtu.be -
I'm pretty sure it started as a parody movement relating to the other two, then grew into its own beast. In all three cases, it's because the art style is recognizable and easily-imitated. And I wouldn't call it one of the most-represented pieces of popular culture in fanart, just one of the ones with the highest proportions of bewildering fanart.

As a long-time veteran of the search for bizarre and disturbing fanart, there are three things you can always trust to find absaolutely astonishing fanart of on Deviantart: Sonic the Hedgehog The Lion King King of the Hill Here's a fun game. Think of a superhero and type their name followed by "the Hedgehog" into DA's search. Best one I ever got was Rorschach the Hedgehog.

The update is live, and it's huge! Downloading as we speak! Go, before there's an official news story and the servers get hammered!

I haven't done the transfer (I want to keep Gamecube controller support for Smash Bros.), but I can answer that: The Donkey Kong Country games will indeed transfer, as will any other games that are no longer distributed on the Wii (ie: Ninja Turtles for NES). The old Wii is reformatted and will be seen as, for all intents and purposes, a new Wii. You'll be able to buy Sonic and Mario Party on the Wii again, but not DKC. Also, for some reason Lost Winds doesn't transfer. Nobody is entirely certain why.

I immediately got it thanks to my Art History Educatiooooon.

Nintendo actually specifically said that we didn't get the white XL because North American sales figures for previous purely white handhelds weren't satisfying enough to them, so I guess what Justin's saying is actually kind of true?

Smash Bros. info is coming at E3 and the Windwaker Remake is probably not going to be until November or so. I know you're joking, but still. I also want a Pokémon Snap 2 with the gamepad so bad. So Miiversefor PCs and Smartphones is now live, although you can't post yet. Presumably that's coming with the system update, which is likely going live tonight. But right now, what you CAN do is easily screencap Wii U games!

I heard a rumour that they were just calling it "The Xbox." That kind of makes sense, in a way. So many people already call the 360 "the Xbox" that you pretty much have to refer to the actual Xbox as "the original Xbox." Why keep adding numbers to the end if nobody cares about them? Alternatively: "Kinext"

Argh I'm so angry right now. I wrote them an email. but I'm saving it as a draft until I'm level-headed enough to decide whether I want to send it or not. I feel like I'm falling apart. I'm going to have to discuss this with my counselor in the morning.

The meeting with my mom was terrible. It was 90% awkward silences interspersed by my seething rage and her either implicitly disagreeing when I'm trying to make a point or giving the most halfhearted apologies possible. Lots of stuff about how my dad was allegedly going through a nervous breakdown and how I'm supposed to be the one at fault for having the audacity to be gay. I did get to vocalize a lot of things that I've always wanted to, like telling her how much it hurt to grow up in a house where everything was the fault of "those fuckin' queers" when that's exactly what I am. I swore at her for the first time in my life. I thought it would be cathartic, but I didn't really feel anything. I don't know if I feel any better for the whole conversation. In fact I think I feel worse. Also, the Canada Savings Bond thing was just meant as a lure. It was only $140 and was already cashed. Nobody would get a bond that low, and she wouldn't have been able to cash it in my name. And I fell for it like the idiot that I am. I always do this. I get nostalgic, I miss the idea of having a family. And then when I let them weasel their way back in they just remind me all over again of why I left in the first place and get an open invitation to hurt me all over again and break down the defenses I've built. I'm such a moron. Stupid, stupid Tegan. At least Jurassic Park was good.

"Picture it son, a goatse as wide as an ocean, hovering ever-present in the night sky as an unending testament to man's childishness."

I've done it. It takes quite a while even if you don't have many games to transfer over, but it's relatively painless. Oh, and you get to watch Pikmin pick up your games and carry them between systems. It's adorable.

I survived the doctor's appointment! ...Barely. My legs are stiff and aching and I'm soaked to the bone. Good news though, she's going to help back me up with Blue Cross so I can get paid, and I'm getting off until at least June. I'm going to take a short rest and then get ready for my meeting with my mom.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

Xbox 720's controller will directly dispense Doritos into your hands whenever your Kinect hears you say the word "delicious." -
Aaaaaagh this is gonna' be a rough day. I have a doctor's appointment next town over that I have to walk to. It's gonna' be about an hour and a half walk, then I need to convince the doctor that I'm depressed so that Blue Cross can finally pay me, then I have to walk back and get ready to meet with my mom. Then when I meet with her it's going to take all my strength to not freak out at her. You can see why I want to meet a nice girl who can help me through these things. At least I get to go to Jurassic Park after it's all over, but I'd sooner go with someone I can cuddle with.
