I kept waiting for the Jake Gyllenhaal thing to somehow loop back around to video games by way of Prince of Persia. ...the movie, based on the game ...whose narrative framing device is that it's a story read by the main character ...who in the movie would have been Jake Gyllenhaal! Oh my god! It all fits! Video games! Jake Gyllenhaal! Donnie Darko! Citizen Kane of podcasts!

The greatest headlines in the world (and other weird news stories)

Not just one, but two stories about the Westboro Baptist Church protesting a five-year-old girl's lemonade stand. -
Beanburg's doin' GREAT. enjoying a rainbow yesterday. Perfect timing got my first mannequin da-na-na-naaa so I may have planted too many fruit trees started work on a Nintendo exhibit at the museum that's coming along quite nicely

I've been considering making an LGBT thread. I guess that DOMA and Prop 8 were both killed once and for all today plus Exodus International shut down and issued a public apology for its entire existence last Wednesday. I haven't been keeping up with things.

those are some handsome shoes.

I know there's a preferred reading order, but I've been pretty much reading them in whatever order I feel like. I've lightened the ones that I've read here: Personally I'm leaning toward trying to track down a copy of Men at Arms, unless someone can think of a more appropriate next entry.

I appreciate that hedgehog me has Hatsune Miku sleeves.

I'm glad I'm not alone in wishing game were shorter. I kind of wish every game just did the Journey thing and only made the game exactly as long as it needs to be. Also, I'm disappointed that you talked multiple times about moving planks around but didn't call it a boards management game.

I just finished up Small Gods today! Any recommendations for what to read next?

After reading the first four volumes of Wandering Son aka Horou Musukou and realizing that there was an anime based on it, I decided to give it a quick look. It looks like the first episode starts right where I left off in the manga, though, with the kids going to middle school. Is that just like a cold open thing so that they can flash back to the beginning, or does it actually start from there? I don't want to spoil anything for myself.

I think it's a lot more likely to get Shulk in there. There hasn't been a new Advance Wars game in half a decade, and Andy hasn't appeared in the games since 2005. I think it's pretty reasonable to expect to see Shulk; given that Xenoblade was so recent well-received, and would fit so well into the game. (personally I'd rather have Dunban or Fiora, though, because they're awesome)

I've spent an unnerving amount of time considering doing something dumb and then reloading at the last save point before remembering that life doesn't work like that.

I only just caught up on the PAX stuff, but I just wanted to say thanks to Steve for sticking up for the important stuff.

Chibi-Robo should at least be in Smash.

I think it's a Skyrim thing?

:0 How did you end up with zero DS and GBA games? Those are two of my favourite platforms ever made. I'm still scooping up GBA games now more than a decade after it came out. I have been trying to parse this sentence for like five full minutes now.

Mington, I see that you do the same thing I do: keep a console around but only have a couple of games for it.

Well, for starters, popcorn and soft drinks are generic products sold as product, rather than brands that push some kind of extreme lifestyle agenda. It's really weird and creepy to me that two very specific corporate entities -who have nothing to do with video games- have become such a fundamentally-accepted part of video games as a culture. Especially when one considers that eating greasy food (or food at all) while trying to actively play a game rather than passively watch a movie is going to be a cumbersome and incongruous part of the experience, the whole Dew/Doritos thing only seems to exist due to being aggressively pushed on an audience. And this is an even weirder and creepier level of resignation to me. What happens if someone at a cinema starts yelling racial slurs at the characters, or if an athlete makes a homophobic statement, or an actor does something horribly sexist? Generally they get punished for it. If any of those things happen on Xbox Live, it just means your headset is working correctly. It's just such a fucking bizarre thing to go "oh, well if I enjoy video games I must also accept all of this horrible shit." Incidentally; gaming is watermelon, carbonated lemonade, and playing Dreamcast games with friends on late summer afternoons.

Why is there always a latent demand for more Star Fox games, anyway? There's like one good Star Fox games and a bunch of really crummy ones.

I just want more Metroid. A double-edged sword, to be sure.

Oh man, there's an amazing dream town at 2600-0218-7298. It's kind of a guided narrative through this creepy story. Protip: All that the Japanese NPCs say is "I love mommy" and gradual corruptions thereof.
