  1. War is Adorable! Advance Wars Thread

Passing a GBA back and forth on Friday afternoons in eighth grade music class playing multiplayer Advance Wars without Mr. Doiron noticing is a memory that will never ever fade for me. (before anyone accuses me of anything, Mr. Doiron was a terrible teacher and on Fridays we watched a VHS tape of the first half of School of Rock every single week. I missed nothing)
  2. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Already taken care of! Thanks anyway.
  3. Catching up with you "retro wishlist".

So I've kind of wanted to play Earthbound Zero (the original Mother for Famicom) for ages and just now discovered that this small company's been making repro carts of it. They're probably expensive as fuck (like triple digit price, given some of the other prices on their site), but damn are they pretty. Probably best to just play the GBA version on an emulator or wait and see if Nintendo ever gets around to finally officially releasing that version they translated decades ago through Virtual Console (not bloody likely).
  4. That time Gabe Newell hacked my computer

That's kind of why the Kinect is no longer required.
  5. That time Gabe Newell hacked my computer

it was actually cheaper for Gabe Newell to remotely hack into a random person's computer and hope that they did the exact things that he needed for his presentation than it was to get an intern to play twenty minutes of Half Life
  6. Dreams!

I had some weird troubling dreams last night. Here's two that stand out: I'm back in high school and the kid that I used to be neighbours with in real life has disappeared mysteriously. The rest of the class acknowledges that he's gone, but many of them are acting suspicious and claiming that they have no knowledge of what happened to him when there's reason to believe they do. A planet-sized object is heading toward Earth, clearly visible looming in the sky at all times. It is in the approximate shape of a short black sword or a crucifix, with one of the short tines being significantly stunted and with a large disc connecting the four tines together. It's coming in sideways, with fire streaming off of it constantly. For some reason everyone else on Earth thinks that we'll somehow survive the impact, with Hollywood even making one of those stupid disaster movies about humanity surviving the crash before the object even hits. Terrifying.
  7. Cartoons!

Oh crap, I had successfully repressed my memories of that awful show until now.
  8. Keiji Inafune's Mighty No.9

My favourite is the lady dressed like Roll with the dog dyed like Rush.
  9. War is Adorable! Advance Wars Thread

I don't think I ever got past that one mission with the missile silos and the satellite that you have a real-time hour to bring down. I liked the game a lot, though Tag CO Powers were ridiculously overpowered (the worst being Drake/Eagle, who have a sync rate of 115% just to make them even more overpowered). I stopped in to Gamezilla today while I was on my walk. They have a new copy of Days of Ruin for $35. Hnnnnng.
  10. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I've been tracking them and asking a friend about hers semi-regularly. Usually I make a decent amount but this week I ended up only selling for 105 each. OnO
  11. That time Gabe Newell hacked my computer

(also: pretty sure there's something about it in the T&C if it really was recording you)
  12. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

That reminds me! I cleared my fourth fashion check yesterday and they'll be constructing the department store tomorrow. I can't wait!
  13. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I passed 150,000 points with the HHA!
  14. The threat of Big Dog

It's adorable! I really like the Ray Harryhausen stop motion look of the way it moves.
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

I know about smartphones (my job that I'm on leave from is doing insurance claims for smartphones, so I had to make sure I knew my stuff) and I get that there's other uses and such, but I still don't want one. I actually did have a cheap android phone for a little while and kind of hated it, and although it's not quite the same I had a third-gen iPod Touch that I don't miss in the slightest.
  16. That time Gabe Newell hacked my computer

I remember when Kayin released I Wanna Be The Guy Gaiden, he told a bunch of us internet pals in IRC that there were secret features he hadn't advertised. A few weeks later, he posted a link to the twitch.tv channel of some kid playing the game and showed exactly what he meant. Turns out he added a feature where he could invade people's games and do things like turn on super hard mode, send them one-way text messages, or randomly spawn objects (including a gaint cartoon airplane that was nearly impossible to dodge and, naturally, caused instant death). It was amazing.
  17. Fire Emblem Awakening

Looks like we've already got a thread. I still haven't bought this game even though I'd kind of like to. It looked like it was going to be the 3DS game of the year until Animal Crossing rolled around (which will almost certainly be eclipsed in turn by Pokémon). Since I have nothing to contribute, here is the Fire Emblem theme.
  18. I Had A Random Thought...

Bradbury was basically some kind of luddite who hated modern technology. He never drove an automobile and refused to allow his work to be published as ebooks.
  19. I Had A Random Thought...

Be careful you don't turn into Ray Bradbury. I love tech, but I still don't want a smartphone. Possibly because I don't really make or receive many phone calls and partially because my home phone is totally rad.
  20. Nintendo 3DS

What's Italian for "where did you buy your Lupin III shirt?"
  21. Nintendo 3DS

Unboxing. I have no idea what language this is.
  22. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Wii Fit works in the same way that games like Guitar Hero or DDR have traditionally worked: you can sell a specialty accessory intended for one piece of software (and most importantly, packed in with it, which is completely impossible for digital releases), but for some reason it's incredibly difficult to move an accessory made as a general-purpose control input, from early attempts like the Power Glove all the way up to modern attempts like the Playstation Move. You flat-out can't rely on accessory to push your game. It's always been historically risky. I chose Wii Fit as an example because it's such a dark horse, but Nintendo's had no problem pushing out more recognized properties like Mario or Pokémon. As for the iPhone controller, I am aware. And it's a joke. They're not producing the things themselves; they're farming design and production out to third-party companies Logitech and Moga, which does not inspire confidence. It also splits their userbase between not only those who decide to purchase the completely optional device or not, but also between iPhone 5 adopters who can use the more convenient attachable button array and anyone using literally any other iOS device and has to use the wireless controller instead (which kind of makes the whole deal no longer portable since it's not a single unit that can be carried in both hands). I really don't know what else to say here. I've provided historical evidence, practical examples, and financial reasons; but I'm getting to the point where there's nothing else to argue without becoming rude, so I'm pretty sure I'm done with this thread for a while. It is, to be frank, a pipe dream. Nintendo does not need to make iOS games. Nintendo does not want to make iOS games. Nintendo would not benefit from making iOS games. The idea of Nintendo becoming a third party is and always has been based on people with rose-tinted glasses looking for cracks in a company that has, against all expectations from critics and pundits, continued to chug along even when it leaves those people behind.
  23. I Had A Random Thought...

So apparently the N-Gage's original design was the first one submitted, entirely as a gag, and never intended to actually be used. It's a goatse joke. Even has the ring.
  24. Animal Crossing: New Leaf

I haven't let anyone move out yet. I feel too bad about the prospect. Also, one thing that I thought was super rad was that villager nicknames are contextual. Some of my villagers call me Swee-T, which is adorable.
