The first news of the year was that Uncle Phil died.

My New Year's resolution is to draw something every day. Today I drew a Batman. You can buy it!

How terrible is it that the closest video games have ever gotten to starting a riot is stuff like trying to get Anita Sarkeesian banned from Youtube?

Holy Priceless Collection of Etruscan Snoods, Did You Guys Know About Hot Toys?!
tegan replied to toblix's topic in Idle Banter
I've seen those Batman figures before, and they're so cool. I have a couple of these neat little vinyl toys based on Osamu Tezuka characters; Pluto from Astro Boy and the Phoenix from Phoenix. I also have a couple of Revoltechs that I've actually been trying to get rid of. I'm not much of a toy person anymore, but I do like some of the various video game figures they've been producing lately. -
It's THE FUTURE here on the Atlantic Time Zone! Bubble domes on everything! Rocket cars! Rocket dogs! Bitcoins!

this this this I'm guilty of it too, but art is a skilled trade; you shouldn't be doing it for less than minimum wage. It's not only underselling yourself, but creating a lousy marketplace for other artists. I have a friend who routinely makes more than a hundred bucks in one sitting just making avatars for people.

They already price-dropped the model everyone was buying, though. I don't see them doing it again so soon. CoD will go Full Activision and release two games in one year in an attempt to burn out the same way Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero did. The Last Guardian will get a final, actual release date for early 2015 Persona 5 will be amazing Nintendo will officially coin this the Year of Kirby or Yoshi or something, but it will never catch on like the Year of Luigi did The Ouya will be euthanized Smash Bros. and Mario Kart will make the Wii U finally find a stable audience, if not a massive one Penny Arcade will do something stupid Not one, but two Assassin's Creed games Vita TV will come to America Microsoft will quietly begin to roll out all of the DRM features that they cut from the Xbox One over the course of several months worth of firmware updates The Steambox will be too expensive for a widespread audience, but will be a huge success among the enthusiast market I will not stick to my New Year's Resolutions

There's only a few hours left of the Year of Luigi!

So I tried the demo of this for the Vita and... I think I need to buy this now. Damn you to hell, Spelunky.

Despite being the cartooniest version of the Redead, this one was by far the scariest, because of the sound that they make.

I read one of the comics I got for Christmas from SecretAsianMan, Osamu Tezuka's The Mysterious Underground Men. It's a recreation of a work originally published in 1947, and it's pretty amazingly faithful. It might even be directly scanned from some old copy of the original. The book itself is an incredibly brisk read (I finished it in less than twenty minutes) and is about as ludicrous as something from 1947 ought to be (it opens with the protagonist's father dying in a plane crash and telling his son to avenge his death by inventing a safer means of travel, which turns out to be a rocket train that goes through the center of the earth). What's really interesting is that the back of the book includes about fourty pages of in-depth essays and an afterward from Tezuka himself originally written for a 1982 reprint. There's all kinds of fascinating stuff in there about various inspirations to Tezuka's artwork (a lot of really out there stuff like Blondie, Der Tunnel, and He Done Her Wrong) and about how the story served as the starting point for Tezuka's fascination with tragedy by ending the book with the death of a major character. Really neat stuff.

I'm not sure if I've ever owned a hoodie. I don't like long sleeves.

Go with the good old clunky anime fansub standard of "that person."

The fact that it looks like a terrible knockoff Ultraman toy just seals it.

Happy Boxing Day, y'all.

I got a year of Playstation Plus for Christmas. Thus far I've gotten Gravity Rush, Wipeout 2048, and Frobisher Says with it. What else is worth it? I have a PS3, a PS Vita, and a PSP.

Instead, here's all the loot at once, being gazed upon by Sewaddle. hardcover Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind boxed set Osamu Tezuka's The Mysterious Underground Men a box full of Pokémon cards with some extra goodies an Xbox 360 wired controller for my PC games a black Wiimote to replace the one that got eaten by battery acid a copy of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney for the DS a digital copy of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds that I got as an early present a few weeks ago and forgot to include in the picture (oops) a copy of Touch My Katamari for my... two Playstation Vitas?! By an astonishing coincidence, Toblix bought me a new one off of my amazon wishlist and my friend at Atlus sent me his old one along with a year of PS+, a Persona 4 Golden skin, and the Katamari game. I'll be giving the second one away to a friend. a copy of The Dark Knight Trilogy on Blu-Ray This is the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER. I had a dream where I had to help Gordon Ramsay redecorate his private restaurant. I have no idea what could have prompted this.

Because the cornetto trilogy was always specifically intended to be a series of genre parodies. I kind of thought of it as a combination road trip comedy/disaster porn thing. I think it's notable that nobody actually eats a cornetto in the movie, kind of signalling what a huge departure it is from the other two.

You are very welcome. OuO Final gift pile! Thanks again to the Thumbsfolk who bought me presents! The gift-wrapped package on top is something from my good friend Nich, and the food* is to myself, as a substitute stocking. I'll post loot pics on the 25th after I've opened everything. *a can of pizza-flavoured Pringles, two Terry's chocolate oranges (one regular, one white chocolate), two bags of pre-popped popcorn (one movie theater style, one bacon ranch), and there's two liters each of orange Crush and chocolate milk in the fridge. Yum! :9
