  1. Movie/TV recommendations

I finally saw Frozen! I liked it, and it's easily the most interesting in-house thing Disney's done in ages, but I feel like it's still shy of greatness. Three points: 1) what was with the first fourty minutes or so being nonstop musical numbers and then never doing one again? Not even a reprise at the end or something. 2) I really liked the tiny changes to Elsa's appearance and mannerisms when she goes off on her own. It was a good way to visually hint that she might in fact be the villain, a theme that they call back to a few times even if it never actually comes to fruition. There's a little bit of Malificient in her by the time "Let it Go" finishes. 3) making that goddamn snowman sound like a normal person and not give him a goof voice made him way, way more tolerable than expected; even if it seems to contrast with his look.
  2. I hate Far Cry 2, what am I doing wrong?

bringin' it back all the way to 2010 up in here

  4. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

*it's the last five minutes of the E3 Nintendo Direct; a trailer has just ended and the camera fades in on Reggie standing in the white Nintendo Direct room* "Well, that's nearly everything we have for you today. I hope you've all had a great E3. We here at Nintendo are all looking forward to an exciting year of Wii U, 3DS and 2DS; and I know that all of you watching at home feel the same. But before we go, we have one last big announcement that we've saved just for this special occasion. As you've seen here today, Nintendo is all about the fans. And there's one name that we here at Nintendo have been listening to fans ask for for a long time now. So at this E3 we'd like to show you, for the first time ever, an all-new game in a beloved series coming next year, exclusively for Wii U. I'm pleased to announce... METROID PRIME ...PINBALL 2."
  5. Life

I just got back from the East Coast Comic Expo! It kind of... wasn't... good. There wasn't really anything there besides a couple of vendor booths and the special guests. There weren't any events or panels or anything (or if there were, I had no idea because there weren't any schedules anywhere on either their website or at the convention itself), so I just kind of walked around for a bit and spent more time in the bleachers (it was held in a hockey rink, because Canada) checking streetpasses than actually doing anything. I talked to Troy Little, who seemed pretty cool (got to tell him about my friend from college with the same name who was intensely jealous of him) and got Kate Leth to sign my copy of Seeing Red. I don't know if it was just con season stress or how small the convention was or what, but she didn't really seem interested in anything or like she wanted to be there, which was a big disappointment. Considering how much effort it took to get over my anxiety about going... I don't think I want to go to any comic conventions anymore.
  6. Nintendo 3DS

I remember this being a thing. Wayne Brady taught me that everybody's learnin' that the world is just so crazy; you work so hard, there's no time to be lazy. The weekend comes, I'm down for that. Grab your ball, grab your bat.
  7. anime

I just realized the new dub means the end of Brad, everybody's favourite very real and definitely heterosexual male character.
  8. anime

I started watching it in Japanese last year but only got eight episodes in. I need to get back to it. Maybe now that it's in HD, I will. This opening still totally holds up.
  9. anime

Also, surprising lack of Madoka in this thread. I really liked Madoka. So Viz snagged the rights to do a new uncut release of the original Sailor Moon with a new dub. Best thing?
  10. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

I hope that by this you mean the first Playstation and not the PS4 or Vita, because that would be amazing. Man, you guys still have it better than Canada. I still think it's hilarious and stupid that the Wii U comes with TVii installed in Canada even though it does literally nothing.
  11. anime

Death Note spends a ton of time telling you how clever its characters are so that you ignore how dumb they actually are. The big one I remember is Light setting up an elaborate death trap in one of his drawers to hide the note, reasoning that it would be easier to explain a small fire than it his possession of the note. No it wouldn't, dude. Your dad's in interpol and you have a noted interest in the same type of work. Having a notebook filled with the details of the biggest case of the century wouldn't be anywhere near as suspicious as having one of your drawers catch fire when someone tries to open it, nevermind that someone could probably smell the bag of gasoline you used to make it anyway. But of course it never comes up. Also, I stopped after season 1, but I have a great deal of respect for the hilarious audience trolling that happens in the second season of Haruhi. Also, Merus: SUMMER WARS, On paper it sounds terrible, but it's possibly my favourite film ever made. Also Redline.
  12. Lego is Still Cool

I'm working on a big thing right now and almost finished it, but need a few more cheap sets to get the pieces I need in the right colours. Frustration! Also, the Mixels have been a godsend. They're kind of fuck-ugly, but they're five bucks a pop and have so many great parts. I can't get enough of their tiny ball and socket joints.
  13. Nintendo 3DS

That fucker just walked away from a Reaper Captain in Find Mii 2.
  14. Whyyyyyyyy did it take this long to announce this?
  15. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

I also hope that Nintendo announces that they're delaying the releases of more Wii U "launch window" titles like they did last year.
  16. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

I hope the Ouya guys rent a space in the parking spot again, and I hope that once again the ESA rents a couple of big trucks to just park in front of them so that no one can see them.
  17. So this is real and actually happening, as some kind of story and toyline. I'm no stranger to the wild world of hilariously off-target Evangelion spin-offs and merchandise, but this is still fascinatingly stupid. In other news, I don't think I can live without the upcoming Pokémon Trainer Red Nendoroid.
  18. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I found that it only got better as it went on and did a lot to expand outside of what sounds like a gimmick premise. Considering how inexpensive it is, I really feel like it would be at least worth giving a second chance.
  19. By the way, Sackville is also the name of a real place that's like a half-hour drive from where I live, and hearing it on the podcast threw me for a loop for a second.
  20. The 360 had memory cards?!
  21. It is, it's probably just being played on an emulator. All of the ridiculous special edition bullshit surrounding games make me glad I don't buy physical copies of anything anymore. Unless a game comes with a controller or something, I just don't have it in me to care.
  22. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Also out today but I totally didn't realize it: Bee & Puppycat #1 and All New Ghost Rider #3! I have some catching up to do.
  23. Also, Mario & Wario is an actual game. It was a Japan-only Super Famicom game. It's predominantly recognized by US audiences as the game that the player describes in Pokémon Red and Blue if they inspect the SNES in their room. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tTuQvkKui4
