  1. There are equip load rings, but they aren't as powerful as Havel's (even the best ones you find later). Since you fastroll under 70% equip load though it's not a huge issue. At lower equip loads you have more stamina regen, but it turns out that stamina rings are generally better than equip load rings for giving you more regen.
  2. General Video Game Deals Thread

Miasmata is $3 on GoG http://www.gog.com/game/miasmata
  3. Thanks, turns out it's 50% off. Picked up SS2 as well, for €2!
  4. Neat, I'll try to get to it. Always heard great things about this game.
  5. I never bought this because of SecuROM and as far as I can tell it's not on Steam anymore.
  6. You can dodge his attack and make it through the fog before he can get you.
  7. They're saying the right things at least. Miyazaki is directing this one too right?
  8. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

She's mentioned in some of Geralt's recovered memories in TW2.
  9. I've turned off auto-updating on Steam, binoboosting is too much fun.
  10. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I know, I know, I just thought the bad guy voice over was so cliche. I'm excited for the game, it's just the trailer I didn't like. I think it's Ciri, not Yennefer. We do see Yennefer in the trailer though, she's on screen with Geralt and Triss.
  11. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

I'm quite fond of the first two games, but that trailer did nothing for me. Ultimate killing machine, go on a quest to rescue a woman, an ancient evil awakens blah blah. I know that's a good way to sell the game, and I trust that this one will have more nuanced and subtle parts just like the other two, but it still turns me off a bit hearing that hollywood film trailer narrator with an unnaturally deep voice talk about it.
  12. Darklurker is the best boss in the game, don't skip it!
  13. Best place to get them is the first bonfire in FoFG. Use an ascetic and run back to the chest behind the waterfall, it'll give you 5x. There are 20+ ascetics you can buy, that's 100+ effigies right there.
  14. If you'd told me two months ago I wouldn't buy Dark Souls 2 DLC the second it came out I would've called you crazy, but I think I'll wait a bit. If it keeps the same quality as the base game I don't want to pay €25 for it, but if it's as good as AotA I don't mind. I don't need more 'okay' areas and bosses, I want to be truly impressed and drawn in again.
  15. That was the norm back the day, same thing in Midtown Madness. Carmageddon was the game where you could run over people. Then GTA happened and it just became accepted as the new norm.

I was very conflicted about that game. I hated it for having so much shooting, for practically mocking the old games with the 'secret tombs' and magnetic platforming. Despite almost not wanting to enjoy it I still did though. They did an amazing job with Lara, I haven't seen a character animate as well as she does, reaching out to touch walls, covering her face near fire etc. That was enough to make me enjoy simply running around in the world. It pains me to think what a great Tomb Raider game they could've made if it didn't have to be a 3rd person shooter.
  17. Life

I use my passport as my id (bad idea I know) and apparently I lost it while I was voting in the EU elections the other day. Some kind person found it and came over with it. Amazing! I'm kinda glad I didn't notice it was gone, because having to study for finals without being able to id myself there = anxiety overload. Didn't have anything on hand to give as a finders fee though, kicking myself for that, but I guess you don't have to pay people to show your appreciation.

If you want to get an idea what the old games were like I heartily recommend Tomb Raider Anniversary. It's a remake of the original that does a fantastic job preserving what made the original great while making it more playable. Why do you despise them?
  19. That's a real evil place to invade. You should see if you have a seed of a tree of giants turn the tables. Go back to the 3rd bonfire in FoFG and the giant/tree there might give you one, 10% chance for each time you get invaded.
  20. I did NG+ Chariot for the Cloranthy Ring +2 but that was the only one (aside from Ancient Dragon just for souls). In Dark Souls I used Pyromancy quite a bit, so I decided I wouldn't this time. Just melee, so it was Mace all the time except for Royal Rat Authority which I used a Broadsword for (that fight wasn't too bad this time). The Mace is one of the best weapons in the game so damage isn't a problem (especially since you can spend hundreds of thousands of souls on resins). Most bosses also 1-shot you, so you might as well use RTSR for even more damage. I've heard that Najka is quite hard in NG+ so I don't mind not having to do that, or Lost Sinner for Flame Weapon. I did use poison in a few spots, like the Mastodons outside Drangleic Castle, but not on bosses. Throwable items are quite powerful in this game actually, I think you could make some fights (like the Gargoyles) quite easy by turtling behind a shield and just tossing stuff. I did a massive wordfart about all the bosses in case someone is curious. The fun thing about doing the run is having to learn the boss fights, if the fights are fun! It can make you appreciate some bosses more when you have to know all their moves and how to defend against them. Best example for me was Kalameet, a fight I didn't think much of on my first playthroughs, but he actually has a very varied and cool moveset. Now it's one of my favourite bosses. Worst part is having to clear out places like the Undead Crypt.
  21. Fought Darklurker and finished my SL1 run. Still love that fight, the only one from this game I'd rate equal to my favourite DkS bosses. It's one of the few challenging fights that doesn't make you rely on reflex dodges. In that sense in reminds me a bit of Kalameet. Having to use an effigy is dumb though, and dark chasm of old is a nightmare worse than the boss. I think I'm done with this game for a while now, time to play something else!
