  1. I'm going to say Quake 3. Can't argue with this:
  2. Kind of but not really relevant: I've tried playing Super Mario World three or four times but I just don't like the jumping physics in that game and I like yoshi even less. I'll probably force myself to play a bit more than a few levels of it at some point, but I'm wondering if nostaliga has inflated the reputation of that game.
  3. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

That sounds like a fun challenge. Like Lork said, poison arrows are probably your best bet for the archers. I'd be wary of using Solaire's armor with the Zwei though, does it have enough poise? I've tried to do O&S with a fastrolling Zwei character and it's pretty tough because it's so easy to get your attacks interrupted.
  4. I load it up every once in a while, the marine campaign is still fantastic. The faster-than-doom running speed is a little weird at first, but I think the fast pace suits the source material and adds to the tension.
  5. I might try to play along, as much as time allows anyway. Are you going to do some of the expansions as well? There are some great ones, like OpFor for Half-Life. Sin's expansion pack is good too.
  6. If you play the HD version, skip Dark Athena. It'll end your experience with an amazing game (Butcher Bay) on a five hour sour note.
  7. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on them, I've played a lot of older shooters in the past year myself and enjoyed a lot of them. Skimming your list though I see one glaring omission: Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. A Monolith game, easily one of my favourite 90's shooters!

    You can turn them off!
  9. Amen. I even thought it was a bad match three game, I'd much rather play Bejeweled.

  11. I listened to another episode of the beastcast. On one hand I appreciate Austin(?) trying to raise the level of discourse, on the other hand it feels weird because he's clearly holding him self back a little. I guess that's what he signed up for.
  12. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

You don't need to kill him (the Hellkite Drake) to do that.
  13. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I've never done an int/dex build but I think the way to do it is to keep the weapon normal and then apply some of the really powerful magic weapon buffs.

It's not that it's too hard, I'm fairly masochistic, it's just not hard in an enjoyable way for me. I guess there's a quite large school of mostly console games that focus on somewhat convoluted sequences of button presses (fighting games, character action games etc.) and maybe because I didn't grow up with them they've never clicked with me. Also, I played Guacamelee with a keyboard which I will for once admit is not a good way to play.

I never looked at the backgrounds to be honest, so I only noticed the in your face stuff like the Chozo statues. I skipped through / ignored the cutscenes too. My biggest problem with the game was that it has too many mechanics, they had more than enough colours and certainly didn't need to add the dark world. By the end your traversal vocabulary is alright (by virtue of mimicing Super Metroid), but it's not implemented well at all. It's just a giant collection of one off moves, more complex than deep. The platforming puzzles are challenging because there are so many buttons to hit and they just frustrated me. Failing because you're fumbling with the controls isn't fun. It reminds me a bit of Dustforce which I feel suffered from the same problem, it had a jump, a dash, a light attack, a heavy attack and both types of attacks are directional too (can't remember if it's 4- or 8-way). So there's eight buttons you need to hit, it's way too much for a precision platformer. Simple controls with a ton of subtlety is what makes Super Meat Boy an amazing platformer.

Get a really loud alarm clock, then put it somewhere that is well out of reach of your bed so you have to get up to turn it off. Then have a cold shower. I've had bad sleeping habits for most of my life, but I kinda hate it, you feel much better with a regular sleep schedule.
  18. I haven't gone through the entire thread so maybe this guy's channel has been posted before
  19. Life

Somewhere in northern Europe maybe? If so I hope you like it here.
  20. To me pug is a competitive match with all or mostly random people, against a similar or sometimes more organised group of people, whereas a pub game is a totally open game anyone can leave and join at will.

SS2 has level design like that? I needed a good excuse to finally play all the way through it.

Also worth noting that some cards are overclocked out of the box, they often have other coolers too.

 I think Binary Domain is one of the most underrated games of the last few years. Its metacritic is 66, that's reserved for truly bad games. The combat is a ton of fun, mostly because of how the robots come apart. I honestly prefer it over most single player shooters. Most of its charm comes from the writing though. It's so strange, switching from campy, to serious and unsettling, then to endearing. It shouldn't work but it does and to me it feels sincere somehow in a way that games of this kind rarely do. Also, regarding Dan, I had one moment in the game where he said something and I thought to myself "that was a really well delivered line!". The game constantly exceeded my expectations in a good way, it has the trappings of forgettable, utterly generic, poorly playing shooter that I would hate. Then it does a pirouette and smiles at you with cartoon glint in its teeth and you can't help but smile back at it. I used it once already, but if there's one word that sums up Binary Domain for me it's 'endearing'.
