  1. Serial - The Podcast

Actually, you know what? Yeah. Lets break this out and discuss it. There is a lot to dig into.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    Thanks for that. Much needed
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I feel that one of the main issues with this whole thing is that we keep expecting some self-awareness from the gg people and it's just not going to happen. This is being a human at it's worst- a closed, self reinforcing cycle of reality denial fueled by the perception of righteousness and a mob of affirmative whispers. It's the same, ugly head of our cultural psyche that has burned witches and stoned people to death and after all these years and countless examples of the hurt that this sort of mob mentality causes- here we are again with the latest iteration. And, sadly, with shock and horror and exasperation, here we are; expecting something like shame to show it's self in the faces of people who have ceased to act like people. I realize that this may be overly dramatic and cynical but, fuck, man. Fuuuuuck. Edit: grammar, words, blah
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I think I may have OD'd on this shit for a few days, taking a break. I would like to express some gratitude to Mr.Tobacco (still feel bad for not saving you in WD: S1): Thanks for keeping the bastards out. My fellow dear readers: you are all wizard people and the well reasoned discussion and sanity I can count on finding here are aloe vera on my burned out faith in humanity. Have a good rest of your week and weekend, fingers crossed that the internet doesn't explode again.
  5. Some things- 1. Anita is an incredible bad ass with super human perseverance and it was really cool that you invited her to be on the cast. 2. I have, at times, been annoyed with how much you all talk over each other but, in this case, I feel that adjusting that for the sake of your guest would have come across strangely seeing as that really hasn't been a thing in the past. Thank you guys for just being yourselves. 3. I was on about it on twitter earlier but, Danielle, Amateur Boxing. Fuck yeah. After hearing that and having the idea of Idle Thumbs boxing gear put into my brain, I sort of drifted off for a while into a daydream where Chris introduces you with a theme song sung to a confused audience while you enter the ring wearing a monogrammed S.J.W. robe, Idle Thumbs trunks and boxing gloves that say 'GOLD' 'BLUM' on the pads. Your opponent coalesces from the tweets of a million trolls- into an actual troll made of tweets who you proceed to battle. Sean and Jake hang out in your corner of the ring between rounds and offer up well meant but inaccurate advice on the fight, Nature Box snacks and water. This is totally how amateur boxing works, right? So, yeah, that happened in my brain this afternoon. All weird Idle Boxing thoughts aside- If you do end up trying out the Amateur thing, good luck and kick all the asses!
  6. Cormac McCarthy

Over the past few months I've taken on the task of reading all of Cormac McCarthy's novels.....which has proved to be really rewarding, although pretty emotionally taxing. Constant exposure to things in the vain of The Road and Child of God are the literary equivalent of seasonal affective disorder. So....so bleak. A perfect example of this came up recently when I finished Blood Meridian which promptly threw me into a funk for almost 2 weeks.....seriously, the end of that book really fucked me up. So I'm taking a break and reading something to cleanse my pallet (William Gibson). I intend to start back up with The Border Trilogy soon. (All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing and Cities of the Plain) So yeah. Fuck yeah, Cormac McCarthy. That guy writes some good books.
  7. The All New XBox Gamertag Exchange Thread!

xboxlive: brodasaurus currently starting up on borderlands 2 if anyone is game to play.
  8. Cormac McCarthy

Right on! I'll bump it up my reading list.
  9. Audio books

Also: Sum: Tales from the Afterlife by David Eagleman is a pretty sweet audiobook. Narrators include Stephen Fry, David Eagleman, Nick Cave, Emily Blunt and Gillian Anderson. Its pretty good.
  10. Audio books

I'll second the Terry Pratchett recommendation but only the books narrated by Stephen Briggs, as I feel he is much better at breathing life into the text than the other example that I've come across - Nigel Planer. Stephen Brigg's narrations include: Thief of Time Making Money Unseen Academicals Snuff Thud Going Postal The Truth The Fifth Elephant Night Watch Enjoy!
  11. New people: Read this, say hi.

Hi! I originally came across this right as the first run was ending, much to my dismay. Just found out yesterday that this thing is in fact a thing once again and I am pretty stoked that the podcast has been reanimated. With funding this time! So yeah, Video games.
