I don't think so. The talks are on a separate ticket track then the general admission stuff (like most conferences). I don't think they offer anything like GDC Vault yet. If I'm wrong I would love it!

This should be an "official" video game term!

I think it's hard to judge the problem as a whole. Like very many things it's a problem of privileged. I have a lot of time realistically criticizing most companies monetization/funding models outside of saying "I will not participate cause x bugs me". Not everyone is privileged enough to be in valve's place where you can make a more or less "pure" free to play game.

I think you misunderstand. The ability to extrapolate the position of the touch exists on both the touchscreen and the track pads. It is possible to divide up the trackpad into "virtual" buttons. So you can hold it like a normal controller and have "virtual buttons" under your right thumb.

Isn't the next borderlands game that borderworlds project. I thought that's what the next chapter was looking like.

Knights of pen and paper now feels like some kind of bad cousin of card hunters... -
Chronenberg devices <3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Existenz It used to be on netflix. It's a crime it's not anymore!!! http://kotaku.com/valves-controller-has-been-tested-here-are-some-impre-1415579308 There's some aggregate impressions from people who have actually used it. Based on what Tommy Refenes said it sounds pretty safe. I doubt it will change the world or anything but I think it's neat to see someone trying to do something different with controllers. I attended a talk by immersion haptics where they showed off various motors and talked up their SDK a good bit. There is a good chance that those motors might feel AMAZING. They had motors that could do approximations of what could only be described as "textures". It was in all honestly completely spooky.

I am actually really excited to check this thing out. Of all of the strange "new wave input/output" bullshit this is the thing I think I am most excited about.

While that is unlikely Valve did hire Clint Hawking away from Ubi after FC2 and I don't think it's ever been made clear what he's working on... I don't know how I feel about an open world HL3...

In that movie Forest Whitteker rides around on a robot and samurais all kinds of gang members! -
I think lots of modern game opinion pieces greatly over estimate the social impact and responsibility of video games. While I do think that's an important thing, and something that has been a catalyst for evolving the medium, I still think that we're in a place where even the "best" of gaming isn't going to hold up well to the type of deeply cerebral analysis some very smart people are turning towards them. I don't really know how to best exemplify this idea without sounding like an ass... Remember how over the last few years it was super in for a violent shooter to comment on it's own violent nature? Almost daring you to feel bad about the fun you where having blowing people away. I feel like most game writing has REALLY latched onto that core idea and has exploded it outwards. The truth of the matter is most games are about dumb stuff. I'm willing to take it to an extreme and say that 99.9% of "objectively well designed" games are about dumb crap, have no social value, and are simply fun for their base mechanics or systemic interactions. Not a lot of people are going to click on something like http://versus-software.com/blog/super-mario-bros-game-design-analysis/'>this and read through it. Even though I feel something like that is MUCH more elemental to what makes a game objectively "good" (enjoyed by people of all races, colors, and creeds for it's mechanical merits) then most of the kind of "games journalism" we read today. We've really gone through a change where games journalism has transitioned away from being done like electronic product reviews (people have largely reviewed games like stereos for most of their existence IMO). I find a lot of this new wave video game stuff to be interesting yet confusing. It's all extremely socially relevant, which is neat. However I don't think that games criticism has ever been less about video games. I think that's actually very telling...

You guys read that there was "something special" about the test machine they plan on sending out? Kinda indicates that there's some kind of feature on there they're still not quite sure about IMO.

I mean in 2 more months we'll have super concrete details about how PC games perform versus the new consoles. It should be fairly obvious now is a BAD time to upgrade. IMO it's usually good practice to wait for the GPU release cycle AFTER the consoles come out so you can assure you grab yourself something that is a decent order of magnitude faster then what is in the consoles without totally blowing the bank.

I think it's also because you are aware of when they're calling you names and just generally being baby-like...

My occulus should be arriving in the coming weeks!!!

Are they in a position to announce 3 different #3 titles? That would be some total bonkers stuff!!! TF3? HL3? L4D3? The meaning of life basically?!

I got a free month at E3 and forgot to cancel it so I guess I have this too!!!

Hotline Miami is made in Game Maker as well. I just finished gunpoint. I enjoyed the game a lot [face_shrug]. It was thoroughly entertaining and funny throughout and nailed it's length pretty much perfectly. While I could have used for a few larger more complex levels adding any more missions or story beats might have damaged the game in general.

On a side note I had a feeling like something like this was coming. I don't remember if it was this weeks cast or last weeks when Sean was talking about how he "used to sit next to Nick Breckon at Telltale" and then talked about meeting him at a cafe across the street. I was like huh, sounds like how I meet up with people when I leave a company... -
I'm making my way through gunpoint now and really enjoying it. IDK is my attention span has just degenerated into total crap but I don't seem to be paying much attention to the story. Doubly odd because I generally pay LOTS of attention to game stories!

There are actually a few companies out there that provide API compatibility layers to get Direct X games running under Linux. I played WoW using cedega before I finally built another windows gaming rig about 3-4 years back. It worked well enough. As far as rendering goes OpenGL pretty much has functional parity with directX it's just a matter of making sure all the correct functions are called. http://transgaming.com/ It's possible that valve is working with someone like transgaming or the wine foundation in order to "stealth port" a bunch of the existing games on steam. All they would need to do is compatibility testing under cedega/wine to make sure the software is functional.

I'm interested to see if they'll price this like a computer or if they'll price it to compete directly with the other consoles...

MGS4 tried really hard to make this a mechanic. Snake would get tired and experience battle stress. On the lower difficulties it makes almost no difference but from my understanding it factors into how you play if yo turn the difficulty up. While it's not entirely natural aging I did enjoy much of what they did with Snake in MGS4.

I'm SUPER late this this AAA party but I finished Dishonored the other night! I really, really enjoyed it. I had a super fun time as "Peacoat Adimral Batman". While that might sound like a crack at the game I think it really exemplifies everything I loved about it. I really enjoyed their world craft. While you can feel visually similar themes to city 17 this feels like a much more internally consistent world. This is a seaport city tasked primarily with whaling. In the scenario you're in (The empress Assassinated! Plague!) it makes sense for many of the environments to feel largely baron of people outside of security. While I do love their world craft there is one element that sticks out super oddly and that's "The Outsider". I understand the need for the existence of "something" like that in order to explain away how you have magic powers (that enable all the awesome game play). That just felt cheesy as all hell. All of a sudden the evil lead singer from 30 seconds to mars shows up in my dreams to give me black magics... His entire through line is the part of the game that felt like the most video-gamey nonsense. All in all Dishonored felt like the exact kind of thing that I hoped thief could turn into someday. It's the first game I've played in a long time where I am actually intrigued to check out the DLC.
