  1. Movie/TV recommendations

Oh wow, Citizenfour available now in full for free! https://thoughtmaybe.com/citizenfour/ Here's a trailer:
  2. Ghost in the Shell (2017) A cyborg academic (Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusanagi as Ian Bogost) breaks into AAA game developers offices and gives rogue talks about the expressive power of video games.
  3. Well... I figured how to make something very simple and silly with the combination of Ghost in the Shell and Ian Bogost. If you haven't seen/remember (cyborg nudity warning), this will make even less sense. The Bogost talk used in that . Craving for more Bogost? Check out
  4. 868-HACK

868-HACK is now on Steam! http://store.steampowered.com/app/274700/ The density and depth of this game is amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-ts=1421914688&v=OMH-yDR35lI&x-yt-cl=84503534 Also this reminded me of a talk from some time ago where Brough talks about roguelikes.
  5. BATTLETOADS!

"And now, the new Windows startup sound, world premiere!" Boom-Clap Boom-Clap Boom-Clap-Clap-Clap...
  6. Tacoma from Fullbright

Mildly hot scoops on RPS: Steve Gaynor: I don’t want to spoil anything but I will say I don’t think it would be a Fullbright game without flushable toilets, and I would be comfortable saying, as a totally side-comment, that space toilets might be the final frontier of game interactivity.
  7. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

From http://bindingofisaac.com/ : "once the holidays end, the nicalis gang will be jumping back into the abyss and digging into the very large design doc i have ready for em. i have big plans for this expansion, i hope to add a very huge chunk of gameplay in the form of a new game mode that will almost double the amount of things you can do, im very proud of this new design. aside from this new game mode the expansion will feature a ton more enemies, bosses, new areas, endings and a new playable character as well as a slew of new unique items to play with…" Oh wow...
  8. Here's the 'How long will it take' dialogue. Cooper: How long will it take us to reach the Timber Falls motel? Andy: Half an hour! Truman: Ten minutes. Andy: Depends how you go. Harry Goaz's (who plays Andy and has quite an interesting last name (also, in the opening credits after Goaz always comes Michael Horse!)) brilliant acting makes the scene so funny. And hey we saw Andy's wild side too:
  9. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Oh wow! I had totally forgotten about that mysterious late game message but today I accidentally stumbled in to finding the Ending 16, and now I realize what that was about. A very very vague hint: More direct hint: How I found about it: Straight up Ending 16 spoiler: The speedrunning surprise is cool, but with all the randomness, trying to be succesful with it can be sometimes frustrating. Also, a crazy powerful synergy I found: Blank Card + Chaos Card...
  10. Here's an excellent in-depth interview about the origins of BoI (I posted this in the Rebirth thread some time ago). And actually Edmund did draw comics before making games.
  11. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Loved the original and this is a great remake/-balance/-surrection. I think one of the biggest changes is that you can't have more than 12 hearts, so you can't become an unstoppable bullet sponge and defensive items are very important at least for the late game bullet hell bosses. I've been playing Rebirth way too much since the release and saw the new area today and got the Golden God achievement (by beating both of the true end areas). I like the way the access to areas beyond Cathedral and Sheol is handled now, no more holding the Polaroid trinket.
  12. I love the expression of genuine amusement on Truman's face. Rewatching the show is even more interesting than I expected because it is so full of scenes and details I had forgotten.
  13. Blueberry Necronomnoms from Gigerbox.com Chex Quest looks goofily menacing because of how much the Doom shines through - Hey Cacodemon, nobody is fooled by your cartoon disguise!
  14. Spelunky!

Spelunky book by Derek Yu - a dream come true. Looks like a cool/good series, I really want to check out the SMB2 book too at least. I tried the Blue Frog mod and even though it's just a texture swap it is quite an interesting and fun challenge for experienced Spelunky players. Most of the enemies are easy to recognize in their frog disguise and are pretty harmless even if you instantly do not, but there are couple of really evil instances that will make you furious and disappointed in yourself. Here is a mega compilation picture of all the Blue Froggines:
  15. Probably not. Jake: "Already super tentative interest in new Twin Peaks series falls off 80 cliffs at announcement of canon backstory book" https://twitter.com/ja2ke/status/522819465579229184
  16. With fish-filtered coffee and Leo being a horrible person the range of moods is pretty huge again in this episode. I liked Truman's passionate pastry eating and this: "The thing I thought of at four this morning when I was waiting for my husband to be released from intensive care? Cotton balls."
  17. I love the range of emotions I had watching the pilot: it was melancholic, mysterious, romantic, strange, funny and horrifying. The ending is amazingly effective, I had strong shivers from looking at an old lady on a sofa and a staircase! (The actress Grace Zabriskie is intense! I just saw Inland Empire where she has a small role being super menacing). Now is a good time for a rewatch as it has been about 6-8 years since I first watched the whole series. I was seven when Twin Peaks first aired in Finland in 1991. I remember vaguely seeing some scenes and understanding that it was something adult and scary but also kind of familiar and fascinating. These childhood memories now make the already haunting atmosphere even more effective to me.
  18. General Video Game Deals Thread

Every Tomb Raider game 80% off until October 17th, fans of the original should check out Anniversary and Underworld if they haven't yet. Now I'm also going to finally find out how Guardian of Light is. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/49800/
  19. A Super Fun Quiz for everyone!

Confirmed by the cover hint, 8 is from but I could not find the right track even after searching through the soundtrack for a while.
  20. After numbers as letters, this should be the new trend. -Super Castlevania for Super Nintendo -Resident Evil for Gamecube -Tekken for Playstation too -The Elder Scrolls for PC Oblivion -Uncharted for Playstation for
  21. A Super Fun Quiz for everyone!

5 and 14: Yeah that is one of the main reasons I like making these too.
  22. A Super Fun Quiz for everyone!

Yeah I knew those last two would be pretty easy to find based on the clues but I thought it might take a while until someone familiar with Amiga games gave a listen, so now we can close this case fully completed!
  23. A Super Fun Quiz for everyone!

Yeah, the Japanese version had an extra sound chip in it so the music sounds unusually lush for an 8-bit game.
  24. A Super Fun Quiz for everyone!

Great job everyone! Horse Bag, more like a random video game music knowledge bag (of horse). Two of the remaining tracks are Amiga games (though unlike my last Amiga picks these are songs that you must have heard if you have played/seen the games) and one is a Famicom/NES game that was only released in Japan and Scandinavia (!!!)
  25. A Super Fun Quiz for everyone!

Here's the video for the new page: Current right answers: 21/21. Hurrah! Case closed.
