  1. UK Thumbs

I had an interview in Edinburgh earlier in the week, now I'm doubly hoping I get the job.
  2. UK Thumbs

We have Walmart but it's called ASDA here.
  3. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I was very disappointed by the second part but part 1 is the best adventure game I've ever played. I'm ok with how it turned out overall because I agree it was a worthy effort and having watched all of the documentary episodes so far I understand and appreciate the passion and hard work that went into the game. Also I'm something of a DF fan and tend to be very forgiving because there's so much I love in their games. Having said that I can't disagree with any of what John Walker said about it: (Spoilers)

You can check galnet but they embed it all with the lore news so it's not super clear. You can click a news item and scroll to the bottom and it'll generally say "Commanders looking to sign up can go to..." or something similar. This thread is updated pretty regularly though: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=113495

Iceland is a ok if you just want cheap brand stuff but their own brand stuff is awful so I'd go anywhere else instead. Also I'm pretty sure stock mistakes can happen anywhere
  6. UK Thumbs

I've been there in the UK and in Denmark, it was almost exactly the same and yeah it's fine.

You eat frozen vegetable/fruit drinks with a spork? I erm, no I just err, what?
  8. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Well it is of course subjective but personally I've found the puzzles a lot harder (I'm not sure harder is really the correct word though). My measure is use of walkthroughs, in act 1 I think I used them once for a very minor thing (which I think was just something I hadn't spotted could be interacted with) but in act 2 which I've not finished yet I've used walkthroughs half a dozen times. As I've conceded already though I'm not a big adventure game player so I'm not complaining about it, I'm not the target audience.
  9. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

The difficulty is shame, I really enjoyed the snappy pace of the first part but now it's getting held back by puzzles. I do appreciate that I'm not a huge fan of adventure games for this reason but after being pleasantly surprised with the first part I was hoping it'd be similar in the second part.

The list is correct although I don't actually drink tea anymore. Back to the election, I wonder if this Telegraph business list thing will turn into a full blown scandal. Probably not even though it's rather shady because it's Britain and we prefer stories about kitchens and bacon sarnies.

We 90% aligned, high five for liberal authoritarianism!
  12. UK Thumbs

Interesting, I also aligned with Labour but we only aligned 31% https://gb.isidewith.com/results/854127565

I think it's still worth voting, if for no other reason than to exercise your civic right to have a good old moan

I imagine him saying "look at all this stuff! Water and boats and things! It's brilliant innit?" My local labour candidate, this version seems to have been put through a filter but it can't disguise that the poor chap looks about 12 :/ I've voted Green because it's a Tory or Lib Dem constituency and I couldn't vote for either of them so if I have to throw my vote away it might as well be for a party that I like.
  15. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

Well I've left it on the buy back screen so maybe I'll load it up again when 1.3 comes out and see if the loan increase takes. If not then maybe I'll come back after the wound has healed.
  16. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

I feel the need to share my tale of woe with others. Last night I took the plunge on a Python, I knew I didn't have enough to fully kit it out but I was ok with that. So I bought it, fitted some ok gear and went back to the fight in BV Phoenics. That was going ok until an Anaconda breached my canopy, unfortunately the life support was not something I'd upgrade yet so I only had 5 minutes, Well the station wasn't that far away so I didn't sweat it, I jumped out and headed the station without paying too much attention to the time left until I drop out at the station and see it's 1 minute left, I think "ok I'm cutting fine" but still don't worry and carry on as normal until I'm just about at the entrance and I see it only have 0:09 seconds left, that was the "oh shit" moment and I ram the accelerator on full but run out of oxygen as I'm entering the station and the ship explodes (such a bizarre system), I think if I'd have one more second I'd have made it... So you're thinking "well that sucks but not a huge deal", normally yeah but I didn't know there was a limit on the loans for insurance so I only had a few hundred thousand, not the 3 million I needed for buyback. So effectively that's it, my months of progress are gone and I don't see how I can keep playing the game now, there's no way I'm starting over with a sidewinder.

Ok fair point, it is a perfectly valid aesthetic. With Zine you're using the collage/zine aesthetic, there's an element of curation there that elevates the cut and paste into some more, interestingly the player also takes part in that curation. Which is ok for a free game... Regarding the collage style, magazine/newspaper clippings can be faked in photoshop/gimp and still achieve that style. Also a plus is that you don't need really high quality assets for that style so you could go out with just a phone and take some snaps and use those. This obviously won't always be an option, if you really need a picture of the Eiffel Tower and don't live near Paris for instance. In those cases though you could fall back on the free resources. I guess what I'm getting at is there's always another option, granted they are mostly harder than stealing though. Thanks for the thread link, I'll see if I have any links not there already.
  18. Feminism

I guess so, I have to say that I've never had much to do with nerd communities outside of games wasn't as aware of it. I have to wonder if this is partly because some of these people feel emboldened by gamergate.
  19. Stealing

If anyone is having trouble finding legit resources then we could have a thread for it. I have quite few places bookmarked
  20. Feminism

This sucks, a gamergate affiliate group have hijacked the Hugo awards.

Personally my biggest problem with using what's not yours or freely given (and putting something online does not equal freely given) is that you're effectively saying that you own or made that thing. Which while I appreciate that is not your intention, it is what it will seem like and is crappy no matter what way you look at it plus it comes across as very lazy. You can put in a disclaimer to say "I found all this stuff online" but people won't be taking you seriously if you do. To be honest they probably won't anyway with cut and paste photos. I don't wish to offend but I respect the crappiest MS Paint art more than even the best use of acquired photos because it shows that even if the creator isn't great at making art that they put themselves out there and made their own thing. So don't steal because yes is crappy but also because if you don't then you can have something that you can truly be proud of and put and unqualified stamp on to say "this is my thing".
  22. Deus Ex Universe

I'll be all over it like flies on poop.
  23. Visual Art!

That's very cool simbotik, I'm a total sucker for atmospheric landscapes so this very much appeals. I think the music and scenery might suit slower particles though. Also thanks that's very kind of you, I have been distracted by other things so haven't done much on the vehicle recently but I did realise that it couldn't turn... so I spent some time on the steering mechanism.
