  1. General Video Game Deals Thread

I've been getting mystery cards from crafting (don't judge me!) and based on last year's sale they'll turn into summer sale cards. Also I've noticed that any item acquired through crafting is trade and market locked until the sale ends "Tradable & Marketable After: 6/18/2015, 6:00:00 AM" which (and this is pure speculation) suggests that there will be some event and this is an attempt to stop people 'gaming' it somehow.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I'm sure most people here have seen this but just in case, Austin Walker posted a crackin' article about the position of critics in the games media. Edit, well I don't have the excuse of using a phone, I was on a PC and failed to have a good look to see if someone else had posted it and they had, oops. Sorry Problem Machine.
  3. Mirrors Edge at E3

Ok I guess I was wrong, some people just don't want guns. Which I'd also be fine with but I do think there could be sequences where you're being shot at and it could add to tension without screwing up momentum. It would be a hard balance to strike because you'd probably need storm trooper accuracy but if that happens more than a couple of times it may become obvious that you're not really in any danger. Yeah but we can hope
  4. Mirrors Edge at E3

Maybe I'm wrong but my impression of want people want and certainly my desire is that you don't use guns, not that they aren't in the game. I think disarming could remain but you should automatically discard it.
  5. Sense8

I guess I'll give Sense8 another shot, I made it about 15 minutes into the first episode before giving up.
  6. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

I think I have about 400k but that and the loan is not enough, it still seems to be short by about 400k even without modules, just buying a vanilla Python.
  7. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

I booted up Elite after the powerplay update and the loan will now go up to 2.5 million but I can only get the buy back on my Python down to 2.9 million so I'm still screwed. So I guess I'm done, oh well
  8. Hatred: The Most Despicable Game of All Time?

It's already fallen off the top 10.
  9. XCOM 2

I quite liked The Bureau, it had plenty of issues but there's definitely potential for a sequel to be rather good.
  10. Thanks both but I'll probably have to upgrade that since I'm rocking an i7 920 on a 1366 socket board. Pretty much everything apart from the RAM and PSU needs replacing
  11. Show me your desk/gaming space

I've lived in apartments that were only slightly larger than that room.
  12. I'm overdue an upgrade and since most of my components are creaking with age I'll probably have to change so much that windows will deem it 'too much!' and un-genuine itself (what a helpful feature) so I'll probably upgrade to 10 when that happens.
  13. Hatred: The Most Despicable Game of All Time?

I don't think it would be possible to do a better piss-take, if the developers were 100% serious then that's truly incredible. I've seen Danny O'Dwyer and Jim Rossignol both say on twitter that the game just boring. So my prediction is it'll get really bad reviews but certain people will claim that it's the bias games press with their censorship agenda and buy it anyway, but confirmation bias will be enough for them to maintain that it's actually great the press sux.
  14. I dug out my colour wheel for last night then I remembered this post so I thought I'd check. It turns out green, yellow, red and violet works as a tetrad relationship. Violet is not purple though, (that's red-violet on my wheel) so yeah you're right the colours aren't 100% complimentary but the most prominent colours of yellow-green and red-violet are directly complimentary. Colour theory is an interesting subject that I haven't spent enough time reading up on.
  15. Do You Have a Preferred Perspective for Games?

I think the problem is as you say 'the feel', in first person you expect to feel these things and naturally that's very hard to do without strapping you into some machine with force feedback. In third person a lot can be conveyed in animation which gives the impression of weight and impact but as an observer you does necessarily expect to feel much. merely seeing it is enough. Since first person is more immersive it feels very strange if control is taken from you and animations are played (Halo assassinations I'm looking at you) so the only practical methods are to alter the inputs such as move and turn speed which goes some way towards it but is ultimately limited. If you're turning at full speed and it takes 10 seconds to turn 180 degrees then the sense of weight and/or scale will be overridden by frustration.
  16. Stealing

I'm struggling to see the parallel between conversation and people's works. I see conversation as important but not something that I have 'created' as such, it's a something I take part in but that's different. I feel like equating conversation and created works is substantially devaluing the work, which isn't to say that conversation is not valuable just that it's something that exists in a very different realm.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

I watched Way We Go on Netflix last, thought it was pretty good. I'm not so good at critical analysis so I'll just say it seems like a comedy for grown ups, which is quite rare.
  18. Post Apocalyptic Books

Well that's just been moved to the top of my to-read list.
  19. Characters and colours look fine to me too, lovely animation too.
  20. Post Apocalyptic Books

I don't think there needs to be rules, if it's sorta related to Post Apocalypse then that's fine. In that vein The City and the Stars by Arthur C Clarke is good one, it's more straight sci-fi than post apocalypse but has elements of it.
  21. UK Thumbs

Can we come with you when you leave?
  22. UK Thumbs

Their tactic last time and it seems likely will be again this time is to get all of the vile shit done during the first part of the parliament then they'll easy off in time for people to forget and to accept it as the new status quo, at which point they'll change the narrative to one of them actually doing something positive and unless the left really get their act together the cycle will repeat. It's mentioned in this article that Cameron has said that ideally they'd like a state of permanent austerity, which is almost as disturbing as the comment at the top of this page. Incidentally if anyone is looking for an Environment Artist outside the UK then I'm very interested.
  23. UK Thumbs

That's the direction they took during the election. It's rare that I do so but I agree with Diane Abbott, this stuff about the problem with Labour being too left is ridiculous, they was just slightly left of the Tories when they should be left of centre.
  24. UK Thumbs

Thanks Merus, you reminded me that it could be worse, we could have Tony Abbott.
  25. UK Thumbs

Steady on, I know it's bad but lets not summon the old gods just yet.
