If, as you say, neither of you is anywhere close to your goal with half the time elapsed, maybe it's time to take a look at each other, give a friendly handshake and call it a draw or reevaluate with realistic and healthy goals? I am really not sure what the actual goal of losing weight just to say it was lost when it's coming back with friends in all likelihood. If you can't risk losing your laptop it's not worth risking your health even in the short term. 5kg in 2 weeks is an extreme goal outside of someone who is in the extremely obese range where that kind of weight is a very small percentage and small changes in diet and exercise would cause that kind of deflection. I'm sorry for lecturing. I'm not trying to be someone's scolding dad here, I'm just genuinely concerned about crash dieting and it's something that needs to be taken seriously.

I am not a nutritionist, but my sister has a degree in nutrition and is a doctor, and what she would tell me (and you) is please, please, please do not starve your body. While technically any intake of calories less than whatever your body needs to maintain its current weight will cause you to lose pounds, you are going to do it in the most healthy and efficient way if you have a balanced diet at about a 10-15% calorie deficit while getting regular exercise and 8 hours of sleep. I was able to lose about 30 pounds a few years ago on a 2000 calorie diet, because for my weight and activity level that was a significant calorie deficit from what my body needed to purely maintain. It was still full of important macronutrients and I didn't end up hungry. I don't know how much weight you need to lose, but just establishing the diet I lost like 5 pounds in the first week. Your laptop isn't worth it. You can get a really broad estimate on what your calorie maintenance level is by going to a place like here, http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/CalRequire.html and figure out calorie values of food here or someplace like it http://www.thecaloriecounter.com/. If you're not really sure what your "activity levels" are, just put 24 resting to find the absolute base level (THIS IS NOT DOCTOR ADVICE DO NOT TELL MY SISTER).

Yes. The periods of history into which AC has inserted itself have been endlessly fascinating.

http://titanfallblog.com/2014/03/22/new-server-patch-for-titanfall-on-xbox-one-and-pc-rolling-out-patch-notes-released/ They did actually patch the game and released notes re: that patch. Fun news, per Zampella on The Twitters they are going to add new game modes. http://titanfallblog.com/2014/03/21/respawn-has-plans-to-add-new-game-modes-to-titanfall/

Man, the Charge Rifle crits has been the most irritating regen challenge to date. 6 more to go, and it feels like a million. Gooser is going to be the one that does me in, though. The difference between that and this one is trying to get Gooser kills won't change my play style, it will just take a really long time. I've been running around trying to pick crits during LTS, and then if we have dropped 3 matches I'll just stay in the Titan and win the round instead of foregoing teamwork and success for personal challenge achievements.

Dota Today 11: She's My Hard Support
Badfinger replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Dota Today Episodes
I agree with Brad on ending games. I have empathy to some degree, but mostly I come from the opposite side of the spectrum which is a hilarious amount of fear: If we don't end this game RIGHT NOW, we are going to throw this and lose because the last time we fucked around we threw and lost. MMR isn't NECESSARILY supposed to create a game with a 50/50 chance for each side (I did read the MMR Valve article). What it should do is at least compensate you appropriately for winning and losing. So, would you rather be carried or have to carry? I end up Lords Managing with an incredible range of players, where there are some games where I'm clearly the least experienced player and all I have to do is just hang on, and then there are other games where friends I'm playing with will volunteer with complete sincerity "No it's fine, Badfinger will carry." Man, deer in the headlights.- 26 replies

As someone who was incredibly excited for AC1, but actually LIKED AC2 and ACBRO (if I'm honest with myself, two of my favorite games of all time probably), Black Flag was an incredible return to form. I put 50 hours into that game, and I still haven't been able to beat the huge Man of War battles. The French Revolution, again, is incredibly exciting. While it's probably just confluence, the fact that the least interesting AC game was during the American Revolution feels related to the fact that it's the portion of history that wasn't the least interesting but had the least interesting bits to explore and expand.

http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/gdc-2014-live-stream-part-03/2300-8660/ Video of the Thumbs without having to dig around and find timestamps! I seriously encourage you to check out the other videos if you have an interest in video games and tomfoolery in general. They may also release podcasts, they have done in the past.

It doesn't surprise me that a 5 year old who knows the rules of a game is better at following them than teenagers and college students.- 26 replies

Thread resurrection: League last weekend or two weekends ago ran a live beta of their Team Builder. I thought it was incredibly successful. I had a blast, people were talking, etc. The worst part was there were just connection issues all over. Definitely still a beta. it seems like position finder may be a legit and realistic addition to the LoMa genre.

Really? The chain gun rips people apart. It only takes 3-4 hits to kill, it's super efficient.
-
The deal with their convention live streams is they get 6-7 people, put them on a couch, talk about whatever for 30-45 minutes, then go to a break to get more people. The video is totally searchable. Their segment starts at about 2:11:00. Honestly it's worth it to see game devs and game-related people hang out and shoot the shit, but it was super cool to see them get a whole segment to Thumbs out.

Jake, Sean, and Chris, with surrogate Lord Thumb Brad Muir are live on Giant Bomb's GDC stream right now. http://www.giantbomb.com/chat/ At some point (maybe tomorrow) it'll be video archived on Giant Bomb and you can watch it if you missed it. e: if they don't break up the segments, Extreme Jake Face at 2:43:00. Forget talking about Firewatch or whatever, Jake's face.

Man I need a job. That's not nearly as eloquent as prettyunsmart, but he's the one with the masters in literature. I'm very near the point where I do go back to the temp agency.

You and I both know Delaware isn't beating Sparty. Michigan State is ranked too low, and Delaware may be too high (probably about right, though). Michigan State is a popular pick to the Final Four because they're really strong when they're healthy, and now they're healthy.
-
Red means you have a kill shot. When the lines converge on the target and get an orange lock, it means you'll have a shot that will hit the target (barring them making it behind some sort of cover).
-
That's pretty much why I phrased it the way I did. I'm not suggesting you or anyone else is wrong to ADS, but rather that the benefits are only to muscle memory and habit rather than accuracy in a game sense.Yes, you should absolutely fire the smart pistol before you get a full lock. It takes 3 locks to kill a pilot, and you may be better off to fire 2 and then aim manually or fire as you acquire. The revelation in the beta that it would hit before a full "red" lock entirely changed my perception on the smart pistol.
-
I finally used the smart pistol for the first time in a few days, and it does indeed shoot EXACTLY in the dot at the center of your screen if it has not locked on to a target. ADS doesn't perform any extra function other than being a creature comfort due to familiarity.
-
Whoever runs the NCAA tournament hates me, because my University of Delaware is playing Michigan State. I hate Michigan State. So simultaneously, I get the "pleasure" of watching Delaware lose and Michigan State win.
-
I am an aim-down-sights kind of guy as well, and it absolutely improves accuracy. I meant specifically with regard to the smart pistol because it's either locked or you're hitting the center of the screen.
-
I don't actually see the value of aiming down the sight on the smartpistol, because the giant dot in the middle of the screen is your aimpoint and you don't get the gun in your way.

Gen 5 is like 50 gooser kills (kill an ejecting pilot). Gen 3 to 4 is 50 railgun titan kills (the worst), 50 satchel charge kills, and 75 smg kills.

Idle Thumbs 149: A Divine Exodus of Snakes
Badfinger replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
At some point during the run, the commentators mention that there is a new trick the runners are going to try that could shave a meaningful amount of time off the run. And by "new" they meant developed in late 2013, for a game that was released in 1994. Which is crazy to me. Part of the appeal of those speedruns isn't just mastering them, it's developing new tricks and shortcuts. So it's not stagnant at all in a current speedrun community, like Chris suggested was part of it lacking appeal. e: http://www.giantbomb.com/podcasts/it-s-never-enough-for-bananasaurus-rex/1600-783/ Patrick Klepek did a Dumptruck with Bananasaurus Rex, who is/has been the Spelunky Speed Run world champ, score champ, and accomplished the first ever uncontested solo Eggplant Run. They discuss Spelunky, but also previous games he used to speed run and he says the discovery and challenge of "designing" a run is a huge part of the appeal. -
Enjoy this 8 days at the top!

I know how I'm going to attempt to get the rest of my satchel charge kills to regen. As a member of the PC Master Race, yes of course! But hey, do what's good. They've also said explicitly that there is some sort of skill-based matchmaking, so you're going to (eventually?) end up matched against people of your skill level regardless of input choice.
