  1. Intoxicated:

I really like Kraken. I am not a fan of rum generally.
  2. Sports

Oscar Taveras died in a car accident with his girlfriend tonight. So very sad. Condolences to his and his girlfriend's family.
  3. Ok fine. The point was just that so many parts and pieces of classic films are threaded into other films and media either consciously or through importance of influence.
  4. For all the things I consume media ABOUT (games, books when IT had their book podcast), I don't care one bit about spoilers. The only game I can think of where I cared a whit about being spoiled was The Walking Dead, and while I worked my best to avoid it I am still pretty sure I know like 75% of the important story beats. I'm happy to hear as much as someone wants to talk about things. I guess I care slightly about being spoiled on movies, and to a tiny degree television (that I'll never watch)? But I don't consume additional media ABOUT that media, so I'm essentially keeping myself out of that spoiler loop anyway. Most of the movies/tv that are worth spoiling are either out there in parody or popular media already anyway ie. The Shining, Citizen Kane. Maybe I don't care about those spoilers either. It definitely seems true that the concept and strength of "spoilers" differs across media types, and possibly even genres
  5. A Dota Engagement

That's awesome! Congratulations to you both!
  6. Life

I went to my 10th, and it was really fun. It was excellent to talk to people you knew as children, now being an adult. Talking to ladies like everyone is a human being! It also inspired me to start getting healthier, because man I was not happy with those pictures. We did it at a bar. I don't think any reunions really happen in the school itself.
  7. Sports

I'm pulling for KC hard, but your officemate deserves to lose money by betting it on James Shields in the post season. AT&T Park is one of the game's best pitcher parks, yeah. Kauffman was actually an above average hitter's park over the last few years.
  8. Sean I laughed so hard at the Sophie's Choice of podcast listening. Ice Age movies made TWO BILLION DOLLARS?!
  9. North America is really, really fucking big.
  10. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

If you're going to be this pedantic about The Simpsons, I'm going to point out that it's Treehouse of Horror XXV.
  11. Idle Food - Cooking!

Is there stuff you guys could cook together to learn the process of making, when you aren't at work? Casseroles in the oven are all building and no messing around when they're cooking Do you have any concern over raw fowl? This is one of my favorite looks-complicated and fancy-is-braindead-easy recipes for chicken (this is turkey but the method is precisely the same). I probably already have this in the thread somewhere, frankly. http://www.seriouseats.com/2012/11/how-to-spatchcock-cook-turkey-thanksgiving-fast-easy-way-spatchcocked.html Has an article, slideshow, and video. I'll also recommend Alton Brown's cookbook as a good method-oriented way to learn to cook filled with sciencyness.
  12. It's like Christmas come early, except instead of Christmas it's Wednesday! The Fiver excites.
  13. Idle Food - Cooking!

You could try things in a slow cooker? It essentially comes down to 1) making sure you have all the ingredients (inside the pot), 2) making sure the pieces are the right size for the thing you're doing, 3) making sure the pot is turned on for the appropriate amount of time. If you're looking for something closer along the lines of "I actively participated in cooking this!", start with things like pasta and a salad? e: it looks like JonCole's link has quite a few things done in a slow cooker/over time, or are not things that have heat applied to them. So maybe we're on to something?

    I wouldn't eat a guinea pig. I'm allergic to them. ~weird allergies~

  16. Idle Food - Cooking!

I took myself up on my suggestion and made some beef stew. It's tasty.
  17. You thought people missed your All That reference, Sean. You were wrong. I slept in the Pittsburgh airport once. It sucked the most.
  18. Sports

    Oh, you mean sports fans!
  19. Anyone Remember?

Randomly, I started listening to Thumbs again from the beginning a month or so ago. 1) They're great. You should do this. If you haven't listened to them all, you MUST do this. 2) I was surprised to re-remember how quickly the standard cadence and most of the in-jokes of an Idle Thumbs episode were established. There is tv/radio/video/pod out there where the first 6 months feels nothing like the current iteration, and this definitely isn't that. Which is a good thing (See: #1 - They're great) 3) Way more Gaynor than I remember! Aw, yeah. 4) Please add the Saitek Cyborg into the episode guide. It's my favorite pod blast and I have to go on an internet hunt every time I want to hear about Hyper-Glide Feet. It's on the website but not on the episode listing.
  20. I also saw this, and it was awesome. Tegan, I'm in the same boat as you. I prefer Mike over Joel. Partly because Mike was on the show when I became aware it existed, and also partly because I think there's a combo of him being a stronger performer and the show being more focused on shitty movies and revolving the segments around the shittiness of the movies. I really enjoy RiffTrax. It's an opportunity to watch a movie that's potentially competently made, and still get completely skewered. Basically every movie is completely absurd when you hit a certain point. The first one I watched was The Avengers, and it was totally great. Plus I'll follow Kevin Murphy's melodious voice to the ends of the comedy earth.
  21. Life

Yay, I'm glad! I have certainly felt the squeeze of needing some kind of income, no matter what. But I'm sincerely happy you have found somewhere to work where you aren't having to deal with things outside the scope of work during work.
  22. Idle Food - Cooking!

Try stew? Same basic concept - chunk some stuff up in a pot and let it go until dinner happens, but the change in flavors might work. Plus there are lots more common interpretations for "stew" than there are for "chili" even if technically that's not true.
