My dad is a bit more than casual sports fan generally, and my mom was a huge baseball fan. That's certainly part of where I got my first love of sports. I became a much bigger football fan, neither of them were hockey fans, and basketball wasn't on the radar, and I got into those as well. I think they planted the seed, but my love of competition definitely fostered it beyond their fandom. I have watched all sorts of esoteric sports, competitive video games, card games to a lesser degree. ESPN 2 used to be my best buddy, with it's lumberjack games and world's strongest man. There's some nature and nurture tied to sports for sure, but my love of them is not tied to my parents. Also, ~@*My Bracket, UGH*@~
  2. Cities: Skylines

A guide of that type is just what I need. In my very first city I noticed traffic was backing up right at the entrance, so I made big sweeping changes with almost all the money I had, and then I ran out of money, and when people de-zoned they didn't come back, and then I was fucked. Now I'm scared to play because I ruin simulations.

I accept that I'm the one that's going against the grain re: footwear, but I really like shoes. Sittin' around the house doing Sunday stuff fully shoe'd up.

I now realized that the reason that comment makes no sense is it's not what was actually said! http://www.csnphilly.com/football-philadelphia-eagles/what-chip-kelly-doing-eagles-money Then they went and traded and signed a bunch more players.
  6. It's strange how I was instantly much more interested in the advertised album when Chris corrected himself to Tecmo Super Bowl vs just Tecmo Bowl. Nothing wrong with the original's music, but Tecmo Super Bowl is iconic. Another thing that is strange is having a soundtrack during gameplay for sports games and not thinking twice about it because that's what video games are.

That's funny, I was just thinking about this! I don't understand how people can handle not wearing shoes all the time. I feel much more comfortable when I am shod and my feet are infinitely less cold.

That sounds really useful and also seems completely untenable in North America. People just live far away from things. It is mind boggling to me that there are countries BIGGER than the US, because I am often reminded of just how immense the US really is.

I don't find it odd that someone in their mid-twenties hasn't ever driven. Cities are excellent at enabling that. There are probably people who would look at me crosseyed if I told them how few times I've ever used a city bus. I love driving, but I wish that driving wasn't always 100% necessary. I literally can't do anything without getting in the car for at least 5-10 minutes. I would probably have to drive somewhere just to take the aforementioned bus. I can't imagine not driving on my commute, but I wish I didn't have to drive EVERYWHERE. For very related reasons, I'll never own a handheld game console no matter how much amazing stuff gets released.
  10. The last time I bought a mattress, they offered me a frame for free. The mattress is the bed for intents and purposes of cost. Grown Up Stuff
  11. Maybe I am completely off base on my knowledge of mattresses, but from what I learned when shopping for one the quality of mattress you can buy with your money degrades very quickly below about $500. You likely wouldn't want to buy one for less than that if the opportunity presents. So if you can get a high quality mattress for $500ish that sounds like an awesome deal.
  12. I just remembered it was two shots if your opponent scored on a turnover or kick return play. My god we were stupid.

please no I'm still young e: I don't know a damn thing about final fantasy and I was really scared, but the first 90 seconds of that video was a perfect sync

Oh I know, it's not direct. Bradford is a big chunk of change on the cap this year. On the other hand, it's only salary. No roster bonus, signing bonus, whatever extras. If they ship him off (I don't believe they will) they don't pay his salary. Smarter people than me were framing it that way. Maybe they didn't use cap, maybe they said money.
  16. College story! My friends and roommates were never huge drinkers, but we did drink, especially after turning 21. My friend and I decided that we should play Madden against each other in what we dubbed The Jager Bowl. For each 3 or 7 points scored against you, you would have to take half or a full shot of Jagermeister. I'm pretty sure the score ended up being mid-50s to high 40s, which means we both put 7+ shots of jager inside of us over the course of the hour or less it took to play the game. That was fun as hell. Getting tipsy and getting on voice chat with friendly people and playing games is entertaining, too. League of Legends is unsurprisingly less burdensome when you don't care about outcomes and just laugh a bunch.

I was happier when the rumors were flying that the Eagles were getting a 2nd round pick rather than giving in the Foles trade, but overall I'm happy with it. For McCoy's cap hit, the Eagles basically got Bradford, Kiko Alonso, and Murray. I'm a little unused to the crazy spending spree because the Eagles have been so disciplined about salary cap since Lurie bought the team, but overall I think they've improved with the deals they made. In a vacuum I absolutely choose Bradford over Foles. I would have liked to retain Maclin quite a bit, and from all sounds of it they did very much attempt to keep him, but KC offered quite a bit more. I'll also miss McCoy! I think he was a phenomenal back! But I think they will get good production out of the backfield they have now, and Kiko Alonso is for all intents and purposes the best interior linebacker (on paper) they could have gotten. I also like Byron Maxwell quite a bit better than Cary Williams, although he's obviously an overpay. I just hope they have a plan for wide receiver, because screw Riley Cooper.
  18. My first thought for the Are You Afraid of the Dark vs Old Music comparison was Futurama vs Old Music. I believe that the Futurama theme writer has directly said Psyche Rock was the inspiration, but outside of instrumentation it's basically just the song. My dad and I share a Steam account (please don't tell Valve, thanks) and when I left for work this morning it said he was playing EU IV. Wish I could play as many video games as ol' dad, though I suppose he's earned it. I loved Snood. Snood was the worst/best.
  19. Sorry, that was snarky of me. No as far as I know Dan and Justin have never worked for the same company. I did know that Justin has talked about his anxiety before (maybe on the recent Thumbs he guested?). I would not be surprised if he got an advanced edition to check or do some editing on the final copy for Dan. I couldn't tell the level of sarcasm, but I don't see how him reading and reviewing the book is in any way collusion unless you are literally GamerGate.
  20. I know not everyone is a GB premium subscriber, but if like me you haven't read the book yet I think folks are selling Dan way, way short on this, at least on intent. He and Danny have talked extremely candidly about their anxiety and depression respectively on Danswers. Whether the book is good or not he certainly seems to be coming from a genuine place. I recall in particular him talking about experiencing anxiety for the first time, and also how he dealt with his dad being extremely dismissive of it and other mental illness. It's definitely collusion that Dan's boss and non-anxiety sufferer, Justin McElroy, wrote a review of the book!
  21. I laughed so hard at the 3D effects joke. Just guffaws right out of the gate. Now you guys are talking about Cities: Skylines so I'm really happy.

Honest, relatively informed answer, they're rebuilding. Pat Gillick (probably the best GM since 1960 or so, author of the 2008 World Series winner) took over as interim President when David Montgomery was sick about a year and a half ago, and ever since the roster decisions seem to make sense. There's a a general feeling among smart baseball people I trust that his thumb is definitely on the scale of roster decisions.

I wish I did not like bread as much as I do. I can buy a loaf of French or Italian bread at the store to have with a meal and have to forcibly restrain myself from just consuming the bread over a shocking short amount of time during the day. It's just so much relatively empty carbohydrates, and lots of calories. But so, so delicious.
  24. PAS-TOR MALDONADO. That was both wonderful and terrible. It wasn't even his fault. The Lotus cars look so good right now! They read my email on the Bombcast this week. It will be easy to tell which one because I put my GB user handle (Badfinger) in the email and they teased about it. I thought that was a common thing, but I guess I had the syntax wrong. Still cool to have it read about my cool dad. Also please imagine me always as a man with a jean jacket, but a leather vest.

The Phillies are going to be very bad but holy smokes the Eagles offseason has been entertaining.
