Happy births day! Got one of those coming up in a couple of weeks. I'm sure it'll be just the bees knees. Mangela I'd say do your best to accept the interest as genuine! If you really have to know, ask gently about the change in attitude?
  2. Recently completed video games

Report back in about how Rogue is! When I saw it portrayed as more Black Flag I was ready to be extremely in on it, but wasn't in a position where it made sense for me to buy it. I'd consider going back and picking it up, because I have no designs on ever playing Unity.
  3. It's like the reverse Diablo 3.
  4. Chris, when you send your superpersons out into the wasteland did they ever start to find really, really good gear? I started to lose interest when I would have people be out for full days at a time but they were continuing to come back with the same 5-7 damage rifles and lounge wear that the 4 hour trips were finding but just in greater volume. It felt like the only thing that was progressing was the physical size of my vault. I want power armor and plasma rifles, too. Robert Picardo sounds like the fake Cave Johnson stand in for the not-yet-announced Star Trek Stories.
  5. Life

Woke up at 2:30 this morning thinking about measuring couches, how little I have packed, how much money I've spent, how to rent a moving van. This is awesome everyone. Living in a single-person unit is the best I love every second of planning this.
  6. Lyft vs Uber: which is less scummy?

I sure as hell don't earn enough money to pay for Fancy Uber. This is a situation where I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is in support of labor, and not just acknowledge a scummy business practice but then use it anyway. In terms of human capital I am willing to factor in ethics as a part of my judgement on the quality of a product. I also realize that I have been and likely will be ignorant, hypocritical or both when making those decisions. I own a phone, for example. Using a licensed taxi cab vs uber means I'm not knowingly using a service which puts all the burden of risk on the driver and that matters to me. I don't shop at walmart either, because they're the leading brand in roundly fucking their workforce. This is also something about which I feel strongly, evidenced by my first response in this thread bein' Uber Mad.
  7. Similarly to video (space) games, people who refuse to separate pro and gamer are on the wrong side of history and also really annoy my grammar gland.
  8. Lyft vs Uber: which is less scummy?

No wonder I didn't know how inexpensive Uber has become. I used Uber in Philly sometime last year, and if we'd taken a cab it probably would have been half the cost. I got $20 in credit for signing up, and I thought the cost it said it was charging me was the whole fare, not the fare ON TOP OF the $20. I know they've been slashing prices aggressively and passing the loss on to the driver, which is one of my earlier objections. I didn't know at what time that slash took place where I am. I want to stress I don't hate the idea of this kind of service, but Uber is a nasty, nasty company and literally not one posted article here has dissuaded my opinion on that.
  9. Summer Games Done Quick 2015

This is the speedrun I was talking about. PJ and Mecha Richter explode Battleblock Theater, and the designer Dan and VO artist Stamper are on a skype call for the whole thing. Having trouble embedding a timestamp, but the introduction starts at about 7:30 and the speedrun proper starts at 8:50. I recommend not losing an entire evening to 3 hours of speedrun, but you'll get a feel for this style. e: Speed Demos Archive and Speed Marathon Archive have both past ADGQ/SGDQ stuff and Demos has other uploaded speed runs.
  10. Lyft vs Uber: which is less scummy?

I think the first couple of comments on that Planet Money drive really hard at why we feel bad about some prices changing and not about others. With the example of the Coke changing cost at different times of day for fixed but seemingly arbitrary reasons, we get upset because we have no say in that whereas if you go to buy a coke right now you have already mentally agreed to the fixed cost of it before you plunk down money. Even if the rising and falling costs match demand and are what the market will bear, it is not what every individual will bear but there's no one to haggle with. If the vending machine is setting the price, you can't offset the guy who always wants to pay $1 and is willing to spend his time bargaining with the guy who just wants a damn Coke and will pay $5 to not be bothered, or vice versa from the consumer's perspective.
  11. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

I never played SOTN, but I played the hell out of Harmony of Dissonance, and I played Aria of Sorrow as well. Can't say much about Circle of the Moon, as I don't remember that if I played it at all. Those two are very good games.
  12. Yeah I was surprised about his insight on investing as well. I suppose I shouldn't be considering he has simple tastes and never wants to spend any money, so socking as much of it away in a 401K as he can is a very Dan thing. I admit I have experienced feelings similar to Dan's while in a relationship. Not "hmm I need to be fucking other people", but rather in the sense that if I'm thinking about dating other people there's probably some issue with my current relationship and I need to reevaluate. In general it means it's time to move on, for me.
  13. That's fine! I understand and respect that. I might feel similarly in his position. Still, it was a frustrating few minutes of conversation as he chimed in that he had experienced that exact situation and then failed to offer any advice whatsoever, while Dan addressed something that wasn't the question at all. I thought their conversation about broaching the conversation of attraction to someone who had been a friend for a while was similar, although Dan's answer of how to bring it up in conversation seemed reasonable. Brad saying "don't do it verbally" made me laugh and cringe so hard. I thought his stubborn and irascible counterpoint to Game Mouse Nerdery felt like he was purposefully putting on extra airs and was hilarious.
  14. Lyft vs Uber: which is less scummy?

Everything you've read such as? My point isn't that taxis are great. I don't have a shirt that says "I <3 Taxis". From everything I know that Uber is a horrible company on a level to the point that nothing else in competition compares.
  15. Lyft vs Uber: which is less scummy?

They are, in fact, far more scummy than a taxi service, which has to comply with passenger transport regulation, pays taxes, employs people who go through training, actually employs people, and can be reached through avenues that can provide legal recourse if they get fucked over! An additional hearty El Oh El at "just walk", too.
  16. Lyft vs Uber: which is less scummy?

It's funny to hear people say this and then cheer loudly when Verizon fiber services are close to their area, because Verizon (at least as of about 2010) was twice to three times larger as a company. It's not that Comcast isn't scummy, but cheering for an even bigger fish is hilarious. e: so as not to derail, Uber is completely unregulated, anti-labor, runs roughshod over government concerns until they literally have to be shut down at the federal level. Every article I read and blurb I see, as above, bears that out. I've never seen any sort of article along the lines of "Uber agrees to comply with legal regulations so they aren't literally a lawless corporation in Europe!"
  17. Summer Games Done Quick 2015

I am happy to see that after last year's insane tetris-a-thon they have blocked an entire hour out for Tetris Bullshit. Excited to see a speedrun of Ori, bummed no one as able to submit an interesting enough Axiom Verge run. I think there are many fewer things I'm interested in seeing this year generally, but at the same time how the hell was I supposed to know I would watch a nearly 3 hour speedrun of Battleblock Theater enraptured the whole time before I actually saw it?
  18. Lyft vs Uber: which is less scummy?

My default position from what I've seen and heard, until it's proven otherwise, is that Uber is always the scummiest option currently available.
  19. I love me some Brad, but he Bradded the latest Danswers so hard. :[ He literally lived in the situation of one of the questions and failed to answer it, and let Dan's libertarian side run roughshod over answering a question about a guy talking to his fiance about sharing and supporting each other financially. One of the most frustrating things I've experienced on Giant Bomb in a while.
  20. Sports

Oh my goodness, the new format for the Home Run Derby has turned it from one of US sports most boring, slogging bloatfests into 4 minute bursts of insane, awesome intensity. This is the best HRD I've ever seen, even if the boring, wrong guy won.
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

I am actually comfortable with all of this.
  22. Life

I should definitely take more pictures of things. I am very bad at taking pictures. Of things. I love the #buttclan pics as well. I remember A conversation the Thumbs had about Butt Clan, but I don't think that was THE conversation about it.
  23. Life

oh my god chris taking a picture of the word BESPOKE. I'm dying. I hope it's helped you relax half as much as it's lifted my spirits this evening.
  24. Episode 313: Listener Mail

Yep, that's how his quote was always presented to me. It was him talking to someone designing a game and asking "who's having fun, the developer or the player?" If a system was an amazing technical achievement but not interesting or well presented, the apocrypha is he would ask that to get a designer to reevaluate the relevance and intent of a design decision, rather than suggesting the "opponent" was having a better time than the player.
