Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
Badfinger replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
If you want the free upgrade copy of Windows 10 your first install of Windows 10 must be upgraded from 7 or 8. After that, install as you'd like. -
Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
Badfinger replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
You can do a clean install AFTER you do an upgrade install. So if you upgraded your old HDD to win 10, you could then do a fresh install on the new one. You should be double extra careful that you have the right version of Win10 when you create the media drive. :[ -
FUCK no they don't. Mayo on a hamburger is a horrible war crime. A marinara burger, or caprese burger, or whatever you want to call it is really delicious.
-
Wow, that's surprising. And yet, because it's professional gaming, completely unsurprising. They call this "silly season" in football, for good reason.

Idle Thumbs 223: Troll Clone Today

Lord Monster Wiggle got nerfed in the last big patch, so he's rarely seen in pro play at the moment. -
Funny! I used to be all about ketchup on my burgers, and now I would prefer to skip it and just get tomatoes on my burger. So tasty!

http://na.lolesports.com/articles/power-rankings-7282015 So, put absolutely NO stock in Power Rankings of any kind ever please, but they are compiled by analysts who actually cover the regions. Bearing in mind that this is 3 weeks old, Fnatic is 4th in Riot's overall power rankings (the one all the way at the bottom). They are an EXCELLENT team. I am maybe an eternal Western fanboy, but I do believe the Western scene has some genuinely world class teams. The reason so few of them are in high regard currently is that two of the teams coming out of the all star break that seemed like they would tune up for worlds absolutely collapsed (Cloud 9 in NA and SK in EU), TSM looked really vulnerable at times this season (but is predictably back in the semifinals of the LCS), and besides Fnatic the three other good teams in EU all have either their ups and downs or are unknown. H2K came out strong and faded, Unicorns of Love really shines in series play (Bo3/Bo5) so they're harder to evaluate in seasonal match play, and Origen is world class on paper but those guys have been out of the competitive scene since last year. The plus side is that I think NA has never been more competitive, but because the teams who finished with top seeding in the split aren't the teams we're used to seeing there, we don't know if it's just the fall of tradition or if NA's rising tides have lifted multiple boats. There are running jokes that Team Liquid (nee Team Curse) always finishes 4th, and CLG always chokes, and they're at the top of the table. After this weekend we may actually have some mathematical qualifiers and we'll know more.

I have not had time to form coherent and cogent counterpoint but I wanted to register that I, almost fundamentally, completely disagree with where you're coming from on this. I have a much more positive outlook on the rise of competition in this manner.

Quoting you for posterity! I personally think SKT is, once again, the best team in the world (currently). Fnatic improved, but they did as well. Less up on what the LPL has going on this season. Just to talke it through, the LMS gets two qualifier spots all its own. So TPA/Ahq/Yoe are all vying for auto-qualification spots. I'll be frank - the top 6-8 teams in the world are all in China and Korea. The Top 20 or so gets rounded out by the middling tier of China and Korea, with LMS, EU, and NA sprinkled in. I know that the LCS scene feels so far behind the Asian teams, but the independent international qualifiers are even further behind. I would say I disagree with you. As poor as some of the showings have been from EU and NA, none of the wildcard invites have ever shown they should be given more precedent over the larger regions. They all get smashed. Winning a single game is a major upset.

Idle News Podblast: Her Story Spoilercast
Badfinger replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Well, everyone does seem to die when Eve is around! The midwife, the baby, her parents, Simon. People dying all the damn time seems like a pretty relevant thread to pluck at if you're a police person. All the stuff about Diane and Eric isn't particularly relevant to the plot either besides where Simon worked. I absolutely dove back into the game after the chat window popped up. Because I'd listened to the Barlow interview and read a few things (Thank GOODNESS I didn't listen to this before playing the game) I knew there was a head's up that you had seen plot critical stuff. Went back through search terms we'd rolled up after unlocking the search feature to 15 as well. I am fairly certain Eve does say she and Hannah fought, with the implication that it had happened after the daily interview sessions had started. e: actually listening to the cast now. Completely surprised at the dissatisfaction with the IM chat and that resolution, and the "desire" for lack of better word for the story to be something besides twins. Also the whole "the face shows up at important times"- we saw the face literally before we even played any clips. Put the kibosh really quickly on reading any meaning into the face showing up what I have to assume is randomly. We (speaking for my gf but I believe we felt the same way) were both excited to have found essentially the whole story, and took it at basically the craziness face value with which it was presented. My sleuthing was to find all the missing gaps in the story, rather than trying to poke at the poles holding the story up. Maybe it gets brought up later in the show - did people actually call back the chat? I didn't know if there would be more chat if I tried, but it was very satisfying. I loved the chat, because I knew something was going to happen but I didn't know what. -
Esports Today 8/11/15: Reliving the International
Badfinger replied to Rob Zacny's topic in Esports Today Discussion
There's definitely some improvement there! When you say viewing in client, that's what you get by default if you find the broadcast and are watching it? There's a lot of redundant/extra information going on. The playing field is also super tiny. TWO MAPS. The entire bottom bar of the "player screen" is repeated information somewhere else, with extra rock textures just cause you like 'em. Still needs to be refined a great deal, but agreed that it's at least a step forward. -

I'm curious if anyone else has watched a few League broadcasts for comparison (or Smite or HOTS) having the same level of familiarity they do with DOTA, and if they have the same concerns of the commentary being too arcane. I tend to pick up jargon really quickly, so I'm not a good test case. -
I can second a mention of Wesley Lowery as being a really good source of coverage. Considering he got arrested the first week, he's always been "part" of the story. Ryan Reilly was there during the arrest and seems like a decent source to get information as well.

If I had to guess, it's a texture issue. I love tomatoes, but I've certainly been put off when you get one that's really grainy. I'd rather have an under ripe tomato than one that's all grainy and bad textured. A lot of tomato sauce is also loaded with sugar and many tomato-disguising flavors. ^^^ Oh hey some confirmation!

Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
Badfinger replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
Ok this is a touch too far for me. It seems pretty obvious that Microsoft wouldn't sell information to the government. Corporations will always pay more. -
Gotcha! I've never used or seen mini San Marzano tomatoes.
-
Fresh tomatoes shouldn't be firm. Fresh tomatoes are soft and juicy. If you have firm (like an apple) they are not ripe, or under ripe. Here is an easy way to peel tomatoes if you'd like to continue to use fresh ones.

This is the relevant line (emphasis mine) from the support topic that clicked over and made me realize what a horrible person and moron I am I own Windows 7 Pro, but I had created a media drive for Windows 10 HOME. When I realized what I'd done, I re-made my media drive with an install copy of Windows 10 Pro, reformatted, and reinstalled. Boom, instantly activated. -
Oh gosh that's an amazing level. I am shocked that I didn't include it when I was thinking through UT stuff. Assault was SUCH a cool game mode. I was really sad when it didn't show up in UT 2003.

Episode 317: Crusader Kings II: Horse Lords
Badfinger replied to Rob Zacny's topic in Three Moves Ahead Episodes
I'm with you, Gormongous. If you are going to show a number value, it needs to be a correct representation of that value. If you want more ambiguity then you should remove the number and have to get the information a different way rather than have a misleading number. A 70 actually being a -4 is not interesting or fun. A proclaimed loyal vassal who tells you they're really upset when you bring them to court might be interesting. Degrading your trust in the numbers laid out is not a good way to go. "Oh I thought I had 1000 florins but whoops I only have 200 because the treasurer is untrustworthy". Highlighting irrelevant info isn't the same as hiding relevant info. That's inefficient UI design, not malicious intent. -

I thought I was sleuthing Nick's hacking experience, because I noticed the goblin man showed up in the same spot on the sidewalk. Then I realized the video was looping. I was really disappointed with a lot of the production surrounding specifically the Grand Final. I'm glad Nick felt the same way I did, because it was SO strange and disjointed. The "sideline" reporter finally got up to the stage and she was lobbing softballs and they were whiffing so hard. At one point she said something like "How are you feeling right now?" and the answer was "What?" I waited through Deadmouse to get finals analysis and what I got was surreal exhausted dudes that didn't want to put forward the effort to give a straight up answer to like three whole questions. I'm sort of with you on terminology, but most of the terms are developed from the community or have descriptive value. I think if they could actually get some consistency out of it, the Newbie Stream The International has the best chance to be what you want - calling the action and then describing it. But it's just really inconsistent, the casters get tired, they get silly, they do dumb stuff. Think about translating this to a non-esoteric sport. There is so much vocabulary that's just understood or implied to the audience. Imagine watching baseball and the broadcasters stopped, every time, and described what a "slider" is. There's some sort of balance we can hit, but I don't know where it is. (typing while listening- radio is such a good idea) Jake: The NFL now sells an add on package of coverage that provides HD All-22 coverage (every player is shown for the whole play) for like $50. -
Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
Badfinger replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
Nope, because I had to format my hard drive. I let it attempt to roll back all night two nights ago and it was still sitting there when I woke up. e: OH NO. OH GOD. Am I the worst? I'm running Win10 Home. My Windows 7 was Windows 7 Pro. UGH. UGH UGH UGH I'M A HORRIBLE PERSON. e2: And it's fixed. I'm an idiot and horrible. Sorry everyone. -

For the record, it was not activated. Against my will, currently creating a Win 7 USB boot drive. So stupid. I'm so mad about this and I know it's not worth the whining or energy. -
Esports Today 8/11/15: Reliving the International
Badfinger replied to Rob Zacny's topic in Esports Today Discussion
Gotcha. That mostly answers my question. I mean, "just kill the creep wave" is the solution in both cases, and if you just smashed the wave up to the tower and it got farmed up by the enemy it's the same big gulp of gold/exp as if they were just in lane anyway. It's not a gift to them because it's there whether you're setting it up for them or not. The strategic advantage is you're forcing them to at best miss out on the gold, or at worst choose between farming the wave and losing map objectives or lose structures because they need to be somewhere else on the map. It seems like the combination of fewer global objectives, prevalence of TP scrolls and short cooldowns, and more global abilities makes the window to do something like this much, much smaller? e: Whoa right, wasn't even thinking about mirror image or illusions. Yeah ewokskick I was thinking specifically about an unattended slow push rather than fast push or split push. Sounds like that's much more unfeasible in Dota.
